actually youve got it backwards.
fanboys of halo lore HATED the games story and the characters.
Bungie absolutely gutted the novels and reversed/altered all sorts of established canon facts to make a halfway bizarre and embarssingly bad story. Gameplay is good, story is bad.
Any true Halo fan will agree the games' stories are shite, and the novels are the real thing.

Any true halo fan would be spending their time enjoying the game.
Not sitting in a corner crying because a video game didn't follow the same storyline as their precious book based on a video game series.

i do play and enjoy the games very much. probably a lot more than you :)
i said the game was good, but story bad. how is that being a crybaby?

i said fanboys of halo lore. I think the majority were pretty vocal in their dislike of Halo reachs story. But sure disagree with that if you will.

I find it absolutely amazing that some people would base their knowledge of a story on books that were realized after the story was set within the first game. The games are what created the story and the books were supposed to be filler with more outlook on the universe.
If there were inaccuracies within the books that made you believe that the newest "game" had a bad story, you can blame the authors of said books. The games have always been the story and the novels were just put out to keep fans spending their money and to keep them interested in the series as a whole.

Wow, so if you think someone "implies" something, you get on YOUR soapbox? You should go into law enforcement in Libya or something. A comment is just that, a comment from one person. It doesn't "imply" anything, except what it says. (Don't forget to downvote me!)

Nope.
The first book, Fall of Reach, which the game is based on was written alongside development of the first Halo and used various materials, including the "Bible" containing any narrative aspects of the Halo universe (characters, locations, major events, etc.) and support from Bungie thorughout. This is why the book was actually released roughly 2 weeks before the game was. Any contradictory changes that occur in the Reach game are retcons as the book had already been established as cannon within the Halo universe by Bungie.

Didn't even watch the video here, btw. I just find it dumbfounding that people argue about the relevance and accuracy of a story that was written under direct supervision of Bungie, the people that made the games people so often try to represent as an opposing side of the argument about the storyline in the books. Like one douchenozzle on a different board far, far away that decided to bitch about how dumb it was that they were adding a backstory for Master Chief, failing to realize that the backstory had been in place since the original game.
The interwebs is where the dumb is at.

I apologize for ruffling a few feathers but I'm hardly what you'd call a halo "fan" and had no idea. I had seen a few other series get books in my time and they were considered non-canon and thought it might be the same here. Either way I hated the story in halo and it just seemed a lot like man vs aliens vs other aliens with little else. I'll be the first to admit that I probably didn't give halo a fair shake but it never captivated me so why force it?

I've sunk hundreds of hours into all the Halo games, 1-3, reach, ODST (haven't touched wars yet).
Pretty sure that's what you'd consider a dedicated fan to a video game series and I have no problem what so ever with Reach's story.

I really don't think it's about "having a problem" with Reach's story. Few players went, huhhh???? when they played the game.
The issue raised is for the lore to be consistent on the deepest levels, for Halo to be taken seriously as more than just a video game that's fun to play, but for Halo to approach the mythos of a Star Wars, where every aspect of the universe is properly curated.
Laugh, sure, but 343 definitely has that as its goal, so changing canon that 343 itself has approved in popular Halo novels is not a good start. And changing the canon "just 'cause" makes even less sense. I didn't find the Reach video game story to be OK, but no so super compelling to justify making the Halo universe compete against itself, books vs. games.

@MyAbsolution I picked up the books before I bought Reach. I think they did a good job of weaving everything together. You were delivering one of Cortana's cores that was left behind to decipher the code discovered in the crystal. I also read the second book...man I had forgotten how tedious and repetitive the library levels were in Halo CE until I had to read about it. Seems like he spent 20 pages describing MC getting ambushed by flood clearing the room and moving on (wash, rinse, repeat).

Having played all the Halo games (excluding Wars), it doesn't actually make it funnier. Perhaps I should have played Wars to find it funny.
On second thought I'll just settle on this being no more than a summary of how the Noble team while not actually really making difference to the ending.
Although the Warthog flip did make me laugh out loud.

@Squalls Lionheart I think Robborboy is making some guesses there, even though his death is never confirmed.
Jorge activated a slipstream drive inside the Super Carrier, which sucked him, the Corvette and a large chunk of the Super Carrier into Slipspace. He wouldn't have been teleported out somewhere else as the Slipspace drive wasn't programmed to go anywhere, it would have just opened up a rupture and trapped him there.
