Rock Band 3 price drops to $20
57
Harmonix has announced that the price of Rock Band 3 (game only) has dropped down to $20 on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii -- great for starving, wannabe musicians looking to jam to The Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations." Or, you know, any of the other 82 songs available on the disc.
You can find the game for the reduced price right now on Amazon, Best Buy and GameStop -- or you can head into your local brick-and-mortar if you're looking for that immediate rock fix.

As someone who bought a GH: world tour full band bundle a few years back and no other band game, i would definitely be interested in a RB 1,2,3 and wireless guitar pack for $100. Make it so that all the songs are can be saved to the HDD and played off one disk from the outset (without having to "import" songs from different games) and I would be a day 1 buyer

Uh... you want to save the discs to your hard drive (i.e. import them) without importing?
Or do you just mean import the songs without paying the 15 bucks total to do so? In which case, you can already get all three games for less than sixty bucks, I think the $15 isn't too much more to pay.
Regardless, pick them up! These games are excellent.

That doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. You can't put the songs on the disk without putting the songs on the disk. They couldn't possibly all fit on the RB3 disc, for one. You don't "import" from RB2, anyway, you just download a big file with all the songs. The only one that ever actually "exported" was RB1, and how the heck else are you going to get the songs off the disc other than getting them off the disc?
o_O
A triple pack would be nice for all the people that need to jump ship from GH onto a new platform, though.

@XaiaX Whoops sorry i was confusing, I meant a package with all the songs on 3 disks (i was assuming they won't all fit on 1) where one is the "play disk" and the others are "install disks". Basically I want to be able to play all the songs without having to switch disks or pay the transfer fee.
I've been looking into buying them all separately but it just seems like such a mess, I feel like a standalone product that was designed with this goal in mind would intrigue a lot of people (and eliminate any of the stupid guitar incompatibility issues that I still don't fully understand).

Agreed, it might be nice. But I'll try to explain things here as easily as I can.
Rock Band 3 would be your play disc. Rock Band 1 has an export option on the main menu, where you simply press it, pay 400 points or 5 dollars and your RB1 songs are now in RB3.
Rock Band 2 is slightly more complicated, and is also only one use per copy unlike RB1. You go to the Rock Band 3 menu, and choose "get more songs", then "redeem code". Type in your code from the RB2 manual (make sure you get a manual), and then pay 800/10 dollars and you're set.
As for guitar compatibility, all guitars work for all Rock Band games. It's only Guitar Hero that had weird restrictions. If you have the WT drum kit it's a little weird, but easy to figure out.
Hope this helps!

Yeah, iI exported RB1 to RB2, then Green Day & Lego rock band as they came out, then RB2 to RB3.
That's why the Beatles release is so annoying, you have to put in the Beatles disc, which basically means I never play it, because I have like 700 songs in RB3, vs. like < 100 in Beatles: RB.
It's also the "track packs" as well. The Metal, Country 1 & 2, Classic Rock, AC/DC, etc. Each is playable as just that disc, but they come with a code you can use to download the songs so they play in RB1/2/3.
There's only a handful of songs that don't move over. From RB1 to 2 you lose the covers of a couple songs and Enter Sandman by Metallica. From 2 to 3 you lose a Journey song, AC/DC's let there be rock (but you can get a live version of the same track in the AC/DC track pack), RHCP's Give It Away, and the 2 Soundgarden tracks (Black Hole Sun / Spoonman). Also Metallica's Battery. After GH: Metallica, that was hardly surprising.
The main ones I miss are Spoonman (since I just do drums) and Give It Away, because they have the rest of Blood Sugar Sex Magik on there, so now it's just missing one song which is goofy.

Agreed. Best Buy had this price before the others matched it yesterday. I zipped down there Monday morning and picked up one of the 2 last copies on the shelf.
Like others have posted, it would be nice to find the keyboard on sale, or even the normal wireless strat controller on sale. I still use my odl wired RB1 controller :)

That's awesome news! My younger sister kinda moved the 360 when we were playing RB3 and I've been Rock Band-less for weeks/months! Gonna go buy that once I get the cash. (times like these when I'm not a fan of college and stuff) lol

I was going to buy the Rock Band $300 real guitar but after hearing about that Ubisoft product that will use my existing guitar I will no longer. They should have used tab for real guitar mode. I couldn't see my self playing to the Rockband highway when I have been reading tab all my life. I am pretty good on guitar but I would love something that helps me learn new techniques, makes sure I nail the note in time, and that my string bends hit the correct pitch. I hope that product announced by Ubisoft achieves the promise of what I wanted Rock Band 3 to be.

new techniques maybe yes but they are fairly basic, they are good material for a novice but not a hobbist (for lack of a better word) an expert would scoff. There is no bending thats where my interest in the ubisoft product gets piqued........

and by basic i mean power chords, chords, barre chords, single note runs, some arpeggiations, notes over chords, a couple of scale lessons.

...but what you play IS a tab... just moving vertically instead of horizontally. It's no different from any other tab in existence. Even the "chord wave" can be set to be "numbered" like on a normal tab.
And I'm really doubtful that Ubisoft's vaporware will be better - (that game's been reannounced like 3 times now in the last few years and still NO gameplay footage was shown in the new trailer).

I am glad you answered something I couldn't find in reviews but always assumed that there was no string bending. That is something I need to work on most with my guitar.
The Ubisoft product will probably not live up to expectations but I am still hoping. I want something that will help me play better and doesn't cost a lot of money.

Yeah I didn't get how the chords work. Does it just assume ever chord is a power chord on the numbered fret? Not sure why the didn't just put the numbers for each string.

They number them if you turn that on. It takes like 5 seconds.
All the chords have a "shape" associated with them (the "wave" someone else mentioned) so, I'm guessing no, they don't just assume it's all power chords.
They did work with the Berklee school of music on their designs, it's not like they just threw some random stuff on there.
The Ubisoft thing will suck donkey balls. It's going to require some hardware thing to read the output of your guitar, and can't possibly have any idea of your fingering. It's going to be *terrrrrrrrrible*.
Just get the squier and RB3, and if you don't like it, sell it on ebay and consider the cost differential a rental fee.

I think the real problem there is that staff notation is lateral, so it'd be scrolling sideways. The vertical notation gives a better sense of movement, since we usually move forward, not sideways. (Also why the angled playfield is vastly better than a completely flat surface)
It'd be a nice option for single player, but I imagine it would still be disorienting. With a static page you wouldn't have that issue, but you'd have a bunch of other issues crop up as well. (keeping meter, etc)
