@Meghterb1985
I'm probably going to buy this.

I'm quite sure it fits rather well into the really-nice-game-to-play-when-getting-drunk-with-a-few-friends category (obviously, all games in that category comes with rules on how it's going to get you smashed)

I like the look. I'll try it out but I don't think I'll pick it up.

Then again, I do love my 2D side scrollers. I enjoyed the Strider reboot from years ago... but I liked that for speed runs... it was nothing near as difficult as the original.

I certainly wasn't blown away by the demo.

I mean...I guess I see the comparisons to Strider. I mean, Moon Diver plays like Strider if Strider...wasn't terribly good. The control doesn't feel as tight as it should. It didn't seem like a bad game, per se, but nothing I experienced in the demo seemed to justify a fifteen dollar asking price.

So, with that said...can we have Strider 2 on PSN, please? I would gladly pay the PSOne $9.99 premium for that bad boy.

Is it out on the XBLA? I read somewhere that the release date still was TBA.

BTW, never really played Strider as a kid (My only console was a NES 'till 1992 when I received the "Super" upgrade), but this review actually made me wanna play it more than made me wanna play Moon Diver itself.

I had a bit of fun with the demo, so I purchased it. I'm enjoying it so far. No complaints to the repetitive gameplay, it's in the nature of this type of arcadey action game, and local co-op is a blast. Wish they would have put a bit more effort into the environments though. Not an exaggeration by any means, they look straight out of a 3D PS1 game ... though with lower resolution textures.

I sensed that this game would have had its sweet spot at $10.

@eNriqeu

Personally, I think the sweet spot for almost every PSN game is ten dollars. Every week I browse the store, and I can think of about a dozen games that's I'm interested in in, yet have passed on, simply because they were fifteen bucks.

I loved Rocket Knight Adventures on the Genesis way back when, and have been sniffing around the sequel for months, now. But fifteen dollars for a game that I'll squeeze five, maybe six hours out of? I can pick up a used copy of Star Ocean IV for the same price and get fifty hours easy, or I can simply download Front Mission 3 off of PS3 for 6 bones.

A five dollar difference may sound petty to some, but life is expensive. The cost of gas to get me in and out of DC every day is no goddamned joke. Sony (among other publishers) lament used game sales...but then charge thirty dollars for a digital copy of ModNation Racers and expect me not to buy used? Shouldn't the digital copy be cheaper, seeing as how they've circumvented both the manufacturing and retail costs?

It's madness, I tell you.

@Urethra Alfredo
10 bucks is the average price for a PSN game as long as it doesn't have an online multiplayer component. Because third parties need to pay for continued maintainance of the servers that allow the online multiplayer matching. Otherwise it'd be offline only if there's any multiplayer to be had.

Critter Crunch wants to have a word with you;
Since it has online, both co op and versus, and costs less than 10 bucks, oh and it's one of the best game in the whole PSN Store.
Also, TMNT and Swords and Soldiers.

Back when Strider was in the arcades, it was my Favorite Game Ever. I played it so much that I could eventually beat it on a single quarter. I enjoyed it when it came out for the NES, despite being at best a distant cousin to the arcade version. And when it came out for the Genesis, I rejoiced, because at that moment I knew there really was a God. And He/She liked clinging to walls with a hook.

"Cut from the same cloth as Strider" means that I will at the very least attempt to have Moon Diver's babies.

i tried the demo, and i was kinda disappointed. there's a lot of potential here- but the limited gameplay and floaty controls really hurt it. the shitty graphics aren't helping much, either :/
i would classify this as the same kind of disappointment as i found in Castlevania: Harmony of Despair. A decent game- with so much potential for greatness- held back a couple of simple but seemingly obvious bad designs. i'm sure it will find it's small following of devoted fans- but i think most people are going to pass on this. i can't say i blame them.

So wait we're ignoring the arcade/PSone game Strider 2? (much better than the horrible genesis sequel Strider 2)

For the sake of trivia there's the arcade game Osman (also known as Cannon Dancer) which was also designed by several of the people from the original Strider's development team. Which also contains about as ridiculous a story as Moon Diver (from what I've seen from the demo). Aside from the NES game the stories in any of these games have mostly been incidental to the action. The important thing has always been the climbing jumping and slashing/killing, the story just being an excuse to do it.

I'm still waiting for another game to come by and recreate the joy of playing Strider for the arcade and Genesis for the first time and all the way through till you master it.
