Not to be outdone by another blockbuster franchise -- Metal Gear Solid -- the Gran Turismo brand has spawned its own clothing line. But where Konami is going for authenticity to its game and characters, Sony is focusing on neatly cut (and expensive!) coats and shirts.
Being sold through the newly launched Gran Turismo Boutique, the threads range from a $25 T-Shirt with barely a hint of GT branding up to a $200 "endurance jacket" with the series logo embroidered across the back.
Here's hoping the site's shipping isn't as delay-plagued as the series the clothing represents.

The people who justify this stupidity through their patronage are the problem.

All 3 look to casual for the price for my liking, if going to spend 150US, I at-least want a posh Londoner look or something sophisticated.

Wearing this while playing makes you a douche-bag. Wearing this other than playing makes you a turd-sandwich. haha.

How deliciously decadent!
$25 sounds cheap for a t-shirt, or at least converted to £'s. £17? I've bought terrible games for more than that.

FYI, they're not kidding when they say "exclusively" for GT fans. While details are still being worked out, the current plan is that before you buy one of these, you'll have to send them a picture of yourself with that day's newspaper. A staffer will review it and you'll only be allowed to buy 1 jacket in your size. In addition, at checkout you'll have 2 minutes to answer 10 GT related trivia questions. If you don't get at least 9 of the 10 correct, they won't let you buy it, and they''ll add your name and picture to a database and you'll be barred from buying one ever again. These restrictions are responsible for much of the elevated price of the jacket, but in the end they decided that they'd rather keep these products exclusive to true GT fans only, even if that ends up costing them a lot of money.

Well they certainly didn't break even from game sales.

Maybe, maybe not.
I know one car manufacturer they used dropped their licensing fee to PD in return for a special version they could edit themselves to test out prototype cars in an almost-real environment.
Last time I saw it they still had engineers over putting together the "controller".
It was mighty impressive.

First Metal gear and now Gran Turismo... When is The World Ends With You gonna get its own clothing line? Not that I'd wear most of the stuff in that game, but I'd die happy if I had sho minamimoto's hat.

Woman approaches...
"Love your jacket. Where'd you get it?"
Man replies...
"I got it from the Gran Turismo boutique..."
Pulls out comb and runs it through hair...
"... its custom made performance wear exclusively developed for Gran Turismo enthusiasts..."
Looks over at woman and smiles...
"...like me baby!"
Woman swoons...

Do you notice how every model for these clothes are looking down and to their side... as if they saw some creature scurrying about and are asking, "WTF is that?!"

I am not trying to flame here (I expect to get downvoted), but how come sometimes it seems that Sony branded products try a little too hard sometimes. Sometimes it seems that Sony products are always going for that high end boutique status, you could see it with their choice of graphic design, fonts, and other stylish choices that scream "we are the Gucci" of gaming. The Wii and the 360 seem to always emphasize fun but Sony tries to be all "mature" in their marketing. As a gamer it is kind of a turn off sometimes. I don't know maybe I am living in my head, but maybe some of you see this too.

I like that. I like to see at least one gaming company go for a relatively classy experience instead of "OMG SHOOT EVERYTHING THIS IS SO MANLY" or "OMG IT'S THUPER FAMILY FUN!!!!!!!"

So I guess it does appeal to a certain segment of gamers, but I still think it might turn off more console gamers than it impresses. There is nothing high end about the PS3 when they essentially offer the same services its competitors does. In fact they were late the party implementing many of its multimedia capabilities than its nearest competitor, so why tout yourself as high end? I think the answer may lie in that Sony has a strong foothold in Europe, and the whole boutique marketing might have to do with a European style of marketing. But I think many American gamers are quite cynical and see through the glossy smokescreen.

Hopefully one day I run into someone wearing some GT clothing.
I will laugh at them. Opening and loudly.
I may even point.
