Fallout: New Vegas patch coming to all platforms
56
The post-launch support team at Bethesda and Obsidian is preparing to launch a fix for one of the biggest issues still facing Fallout: New Vegas. No, not its apocalyptic levels of irradiation -- the game-crashing bugs and other performance-wrecking snafus that pepper the game's ruined landscape. According to a recent post on Bethesda's blog, a patch targeting "optimizations and stability improvements" is currently in the certification process for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
Though the blog post doesn't go into specifics, it does mention, "we have fixed a great deal of the crashes and lockups that people were experiencing," and later adds, "we scoured the forums and this patch includes weapon balance tweaks and other requested fixes." The update also prepares for an upcoming add-on -- likely the "Honest Hearts" DLC. Bethesda suggests you keep an eye out for the patch "in the next couple of weeks." We will! We might just keep two eyes out.

Severely broken...?
I haven't experienced any problems playing the game. My computer has been pretty low-end since last Fall, so I keep all the settings as low as possible. I'm sure that doesn't have anything to do with it but that's the only difference I could possibly have with others.

Just my luck, this happens just as I uninstall it for crashing on me every 30 minutes. Hopefully now I can play the game for an hour now before being kicked back to my desktop.

This is very excellent news, as I haven't gotten that far into the game (maybe 10 hrs), though I haven't really had the game crash on me much either. I save like a g'damn fiend every 5-10 minutes.

Finally...*please* let this be the one to *fix* the game...I seriously can't even finish this game currently.

Must admit, haven't played this for a while; meaning to go back in and finish the game and play Dead Money. Haven't had too many crashes and it hasn't spoiled the overall effect of the game.

Would have been nice to get a fix for this a few months ago when I was still playing it.

A patch 6 MONTHS later?!?!? All my friends have gotten game-freezing glitches and all of them have already given up on it. I guess the hold-outs and those of us waiting for the GotY edition are the ones to benefit.

disturbing trend of games being released full of bugs and not QA tested thoroughly, this crap needs to stop immediateily

@Tradio They have investor schedules to meet, that's part of the problem probably.

This game was in every way rushed out the door. Even Fallout 3 didn't have that many bugs and glitches when that came out.

@ColorblindMonk
Fallout 3 was rushed as well on the PS3. Crashes every 5 minutes and quests are glitched. I wanted to finish it, but it never happened due to this.

Please make it to where I can find ED-E and finish this damn game. A bit hesitant about Skyrim too even if Skyrim is being developed in-house.

I hit a game stopping bug, and never touched New Vegas again. After this patch, I may have to finally give it the second chance it deserves.

Guess I'll consider myself lucky... 200+ hours and only one gamebreaking glitch that resolved itself with a half dozen reloads of my save file.

Oh come on, guys. I bought this at launch on the PC and I never experienced any crashes or major bugs. I played it for twelve hours in the first two days I had it, there's no way I just got lucky.

Just because these problems do not happen to you...does not mean it never happens at all.

You got really lucky I guess.
Everybody plays it different, so presumably it takes a specific permuatation(s) of events for a game-breaking bug to occur.

I haven't had many glitches or bugs in my 150 hours or so, save maybe the one where you fall through the floor, or enemies and npcs in the middle of solid matter. Other than that have enjoyed the game. But haven't played since I finished Dead Money.
I am guessing the Patch is in prep for the new DLC that should be arriving soon.

I didn't have any game breaking glitches or bugs back when I played it, tho. Except being unable to complete Raul's quest...

I just completed this game with little to no issue on the PC.
I have no idea why people expect an incredibly complex gigantic RPG to be flawless. It's like people are used to playing games with no content or something.

I'm playing this right now and having a lot of fun, but it will crash sometimes in the wasteland for no reason, so bug fixes are a good thing.

What an incredibly contradicting pair of sentences. The capitalized stuff you claim they are not fixing does indeed fit under the stuff they say they are fixing.

i found it pretty clear. The patch is not fixing said "radiation," (a joke) but is fixing the aforementioned snafus. There is no contradiction.

Beat this game twice back in the fall, but I'm not playing through it again or picking up any of the DLC until this patch drops. I lived in constant fear of save games being deleted.

Pretty sure the corrupting saves issues were fixed a long time ago. 99% of any bugs left are just simple graphical ones.

I have a huge soft spot for this game, especially with all its references and throw-backs to the first two original games! I don't think console gamers liked this title much, since their versions have more bugs and most aren't familiar with Fallout 1/2.
Posted: Apr 13th 2011 6:36PM DrunkRaba said
@(Unverified) I haven't beaten it yet but started playing on the PS3 last month and it's a pretty underwhelming title, especially compared to Fallout: 3. Not to say it's bad, its just that the factions are just plain boring. I don't even really feel compelled to find the dude who shot me. I mean, whatever I seem fine now.

I'm pretty excited to go back into this one after they implement the updates. It came out at a pretty bad time when many people were still suffering from Fallout 3 fatigue. Hopefully now, most people are ready to give new vegas a chance.

Good to hear that are fixing it. I can't complete "still in the dark" because I can't talk the elder, my companions keep launching into the sky and the minigun has sound problems. Also is New Canaan going to be a funtioning town?
