Kinect Sports dev seeks participants for Guinness World Records attempt

A Guinness World Records achievement for "most people running a virtual 100m dash at one time" will take place over Easter weekend, on April 23. According to Rare, a free Xbox Nations gamer pic should be available in the coming week. Downloading it will "automatically enter you into the record attempt."

Then, at the appointed time (listed after the break), all you need to do is pop in Kinect Sports and "complete a sprint mini-game while connected to Xbox Live." Make sure not to choose the entire track and field event from the menu or it won't count.

All who download the gamer pic and participate in the record attempt will be rewarded with the Guinness World Records avatar tee (pictured). Beyond that point, you can totally make up the reason you earned it: "Yeah, I totally got that for putting four pool balls in my mouth. You should see how many you can do!"

• 10am PDT Saturday April 23

That has to be one of the stupidest records I've heard of...

Most of the records in the 'gamers edition' are entirely too specific and feel like they were created solely for a marketing blurb on the back of the box. Guinness is rubbish anymore.

no, i currently hold the record.... but it looks like they are finally going to break it. time to start training again.. i need a montage...

i'm waiting for the chance to break the record for most people playing Dance Central, dancing to Lady GaGa, while wearing red shirts and blue shorts, standing in front of a white sheet, wearing one shoe, scoring between 80 and 90k points, playing on medium difficulty, while believing this record is something to be proud of.

I would love to participate, but I don't have a Kinect, so obviously I don't have Kinect Sports either.

I'll participate, but first I'll have to find KINECT SPORTS at a decent price. I only have ADVENTURES and DANCE CENTRAL. I traded MOTION SPORTS because the game was utter garbage.

Sounds to me like they just make up new records whenever a company says "hey, we want to show off our new games and technology to pretend we're cool". Guiness World Records seem so meaningless these days.

What about a record for "most Justin Bieber death threats in 24 hours"? Virtually, through Xbox LIVE and PSN, that is. Following that would be "most people banned from online services in one day".

I couldn't give a crap wether MS is being unique or not. All I know is that I want that avatar shirt.
