Announced during GDC, version 1.5 of the PlayStation Home client will go live tomorrow morning, April 20. The update not only introduces engine enhancements designed to aid developers in making full high-performance games for the platform, but a number of interface tweaks as well.
Sony is launching a new Sodium themed private space along with the update, although Lockwood Publishing's futuristic racer utilizing the Home 1.5 framework, Sodium Two, is still in closed beta. You can find a complete list of the UI and functionality updates being introduced at the source link below.

Will it make walking/running look less stupid? But I guess the really important question is: will it give me extra virtual crap (often branded) to buy for my virtual "pad", and continue to not have any kind of crafting mechanic?

What the...? Why? Huh?
Sony, you already announced the cease production of PSPgo, you should have just lumped Home into it.
Either that or Sony shoulda spent some time making Playstation Room a full feature. That seemed more promising to me, but it never made it past the Japan beta if I remember correctly

home sucks dude, just admit it. you can't do anything on there without paying for it with real money. if they were to make it where you can do certain things in home to unlock access to "premium" games, maybe it would be worthwhile then. also, the fact that most people don't have a mic makes it a pretty useless "hub" for communicating with others.

So does this mean it's still in beta or whatever? 1.5? Seriously, it's an indefensible heap of garbage that only a fanboy would defend. It's brilliant on Sony's part since they're turning a good dime on it, but seriously I dunno if at this point they really need to even bother working on it any further. They've apparently got a heap of folks fine with it as is that are putting money down.
Plus, another PS3 update always reminds me of the good ol' days of AOL and the absolutely obscene "adding new art" BS. If it was my main console of use it might not be so bad, but JC, man, JC.

You do realize that there is a much bigger world out there and that gamers play more than just Halo and God of War III. You may wonder how Farmville and Mafia Wars can be so profitable but again, I remind you that we "serious" gamers are a just a segment of the market. You and I may not enjoy those games as much as casual gamers do but they are still profitable. And the same goes for home, you can scream all your want about how you don't like it but I'm sure there are lots of other people out there who think the games you like suck.

When did he say anything about it "not sucking"? He said only about the profitability of Home, and that there's no reason for Sony to kill off something that makes them money.

They really need to add a run button.
There needs to be an in-home fighting game like Streets of Rage where you can fight other Home users, for whatever reason. And then Mortal Kombat music will start playing in the background whenever this happens.

Yeah.
This seems...unnecessary.
Maybe some people use Home. Maybe some peope consider it a vital element of their PS3 experience...
...but I don't know 'em.
Seriously, I've never once seen anyone on my friend list using Home.
And I've certainly never sent an invite to anyone for a game of MvC3 and been told, "hold on, f*cker, I'm hanging plants."
Or whatever the shit it is you do in Home. Maybe "hanging plants" is too hardcore an activity for this...application. Maybe you just try on new pants, or something.
Yay, Sony. Hurray for J. Crew 1.5.

Bring back voice chat and I may be interested. Seriously, a social networking tool in which the easiest and most natural means of socializing isn't allowed. Freaking brilliant...
Loved it in closed beta but I haven't used it since. Go back to your original promises, Sony. Screw all of this side fluff.

@Haizeus they did.... you just need to make a group, like a party in an mmo, but less orc slaying. It creates a voice chat channel for you. You can also voice chat with anyone in your club as well in the club voice chat channel. This works across spaces as well.

I admit, Home isn't the best, but it has been improving and they have some pretty cool spaces and rewards. That Killzone 3 event they had a while back was pretty awesome and the Sodium and Aurora spaces are pretty slick. It's cool to pop in every once in a while, but I get the feeling most of the people talking trash haven't even set foot in a Home space.

I think the same thing every time I read a Home article. These kinds of experiences are incredibly successful already and it's not only because they're fleshed out more but also because they're far more removed from reality. Reality is boring, no one wants to escape into something that reminds them of their daily life because, well, its not escaping then. People will continue to hop into Home when they hear about a new sponsored space with cool tie-ins to whatever game its representing but I don't think people in masses will ever regularly spend much time there just to simply be spending time there.

It's worth saying as well, though, that who knows if that's even how Sony wants the space to be like. As Bielzer said below me, he uses it as a tool. Does Sony even want Home to be a space like Free Realms? Do they want it to be a tool? A little of both? I think that's part of the problem for people who don't need it as a tool. What other purpose does it serve? Like, they don't need to go in there to find someone to play with because they have friends for that, sooo, what purpose does Home have for THEM? Not much, I don't think. Home just doesn't reach everyone, which is where I think Sony could do better. Even if their vision isn't for a space like Free Realms, they could still do things video game-y so people have a reason to just have fun. Hell, give everyone jetpacks, I guarantee they'd get an immediate increase of constant users because jetpacks are just fun.
I mean, imagine if MS made a cartoon-y world for Avatars where we could drive around in our cartoon cars that have go go gadget stuff and fly around on jetpacks and shoot each other with water and nerf guns, and on and on. THAT would be a space I'd spend time in because it would be hilarious and fun.

It's not that I don't like Home, but.... I just don't get it. It feels stiff and... It's pretty boring. It'd probably be better on a computer rather than using a Playstation controller.
I love my PS3, but every now and then, I go into Home, and I instantly get bored and wonder what I should do without paying pointless sums of money to virtually do pointless things with friends when I could do said pointless things outside in real life. So yeah, it's not bad. It's just kinda boring. But maybe that's because I'm a loner.

fusing free realms and home into a single strategy would be a wise direction... but then home and free realms as free seems to be better than xbox live monthly fee

I think it would be neat if Home had been the basis of the PS3 itself, and everything built around it. Then maybe Home would be in a much more expanded, refined state that it is now.
For Example : all I want to do is turn on my PS3 and play the new Mortal Kombat. When I turn it on, it lets me pick my profile like it does now, and then it loads my apartment, or whatever virtual home I have. Not connecting to the rest of Home at start up, it loads quicker and all I have is my apartment. Having set my default "wake up" location to the chair in front of my virtual PS3 and TV, the option of interacting with the PS3 and "Play Disc" are already popped up.
Then going to the PSN Store could be like, walking over to my virtual PC, or most likely the PS3 as well. Messages could come up on my virtual handheld device, and hey, if Home was the structure behind the platform, maybe all Sony would have to do is run voice chat through Home behind the games. Then everyone would get the cross-game chat they want to badly.
