Every time a massive strategy game or RPG comes out, people flip out when a giant game has a lot of little bugs everywhere. Just how it goes.

I think we're just way too used to getting games with absolutely no content in them that unsurprisingly are solid.

I don't understand what you are trying to say.

You mean that if a car company make a bigger TRUCK they then you should expect more thing to go wrong with it.

Or if I rent a movie that is 3 hours long vs 2 hours, then I should expect much lower quality in it.

Fallout is an awesome game, but glitches are surreal. I just started to play Fallout 3 and even now after SO MANY fixes I still get stuck from time to time. I accept it cause I have no choice, but to be honest it is not acceptable.

They are only hurting themselves. Build better AI, make AI go around whole world, open doors, jump around, check every corner. Have more people playing the game. I really don't care how they do it, but if they spend extra $1 million on QA they will get so much better of a product out there, which will result in better reviews and better gameplay experience for end user (ME).

I am not even going to consider Fallout New Vegas for at least another year or 2. Why, because I don't want to waste my time getting stuck in the door, or seeing some guys head spin upside down, in the first scene of the game.

MORE QA = BETTER QUALITY = HIGHER SALES = MORE REPEAT BUSINESS

I really didn't have any issues w/FO 3 - and I loved it.
The problem w/Obsidian is not their core design - KOTOR2, Alpha Protocol and FNV had truly great ideas that just got crushed under technical issues and execution. Their track record is clear and worrisome.

It's nice to see someone from Obsidian taking some responsibility; but FIGURE IT OUT. If a game is going to be that big then Bethesda cannot hold the product hostage to a release date. Get. It. Right.

I don't think anyone expects perfection w/an experience on that scale but NV in particular was a huge blemish on the brand, developer and publisher; I will definitely sit out their next releases until I get some concrete idea of the quality.

There's obviously a lot of talent at Obsidian but has to come together in a polished final product - then I gladly hand over my money.

@pickupdoctor Absolutely. If you buy a truck with all the options there's a higher probability of something going wrong; your electric windows can't break if they're not electric. Software is no different.

That said, New Vegas had too many bugs. Fallout 3?? Really? You can say it has too many bugs, but meanwhile it won game of the year, so I don't know how you can claim it's of a lower quality.

You forgot their biggest offense, they did the Knights of the Old Republic 2 PC port and it was HORRIBLE. There are modders to this day working to clean up their mess. Obsidian is and always will be awful.

seconding this.

obsidian has never done a good job on their games from a stability standpoint. this game is just their most visible failure.

i don't know how many years it's taken for them admit that they suck at this.

@acefondu Well wasnt it LucasArts' fault then that they forced Obsidian to release the game very very early? I think there are some articles in the past (either from Kotaku or Joystiq) that mentioned some of the contents from the game were cut because they werent properly tested, but the full game itself was not done and was forcefully released.

The modders actually fixed the cut contents and put them back in to make it a 'complete game', because I dont think Obsidian is allowed to touch or support the game anymore...

Yeah...the load times once arriving in New Vegas start to get unbelievably long. Not nearly as bad as Fallout 3 GOTY long, but almost as bad.

I don't know about that. The load times are pretty fine for me. About 10 seconds or so. Nothing much.

He's referring to something that often occurs after you've been playing the game for a long stretch of time. Load times get progressively worse until you eventually have to restart the console to fix the problem.

I have no confidence in Obsidian, especially due to the latest 'patch'. For instance, I've had more freezes in Fallout: NV than I've had in all the games I've played to date combined. That's just unacceptable.

thanks for the tip. the loading times didn't get really bad until I arrived in NV central. At least I know I have to re-start the console when things start to really slow down.

You can clear your memory cache and do some cleanup on your HDD - it's somewhere in the 'My System > memory' section. Google it (I'm too lazy) but it definitely helps

Nope. I wasn't done with FO3. I just finished all the DLC like a week ago. And I'm finally happy with my achievements in that game. And I heard such awful things about the bugs and glitches when it launched, that I didn't bother to try it out until after I finish FO3. Now I'm done with it, so i'll go ahead and test the waters.

Yes you can unpack Fallout 3 GOTY edition.

I would wait at least 6 MONTHS for FALLOUT NEW VEGAS, and 1 YEAR if you planning on getting any DLC.

They only talk about the Xbox 360 here.. as if to say the PS3 version doesn't have major or nasty bugs in the game ... which i know isn't the case by reading many comments on here from PS3 Owners.

i wanna buy Dungeon Siege but i don't Trust Obsidian. they can't seem to make a game properly without having issues. if it plays great on release then i will buy it but for now .. i'm not touching anything that comes from this Company.

I skip games like this at launch because of bugs... I accept that bugs exist in large games and give a company time to iron them out (this is a lesson I learned WAY back in Fallout 2 ironically enough)

What I find inexcusable is a patch 6 months after launch that breaks saves and triples load times.

Never will Obsidian get a penny from me.

It's saddening that you should even DO that. Lauch games shouldn't need to be patched over and over. Upon buying the game, you want the final product. Not some halfassed stuff that hasn't been through the QA department. Don't let one game influence you, though. There are many companies which still put out lots of quality games upon launch.

I completely agree that some companies do a much better job, of those I tend to buy on release. LA Noire is a good example. I'm sure there may be some quirks (like RDR before it) but they will be small, they will not ruin the ability to play the game, and I buy them on release with confidence in that.

Bioware games are in a similar boat.

@Hunter2223 let's not forget Blizzard. Sure, even Diablo II or Warcraft 3 have been patched several times, but the list of "fixes" in the patch notes usually was contrasted with a much, much longer list of new features or balance/gameplay tweaks that made the game even better. But sadly that's the exception, not the norm anymore.

Exactly. Obsidian doesn't have a leg to stand on with regards to bugs. They don't release clean code.
I'd like to think it's because they have trouble with scope creep, but it's so consistent in their releases, that I'm not sure.

I gave up on Fallout after having so many issues with FO3 on PC. My frame rate would slow to 1 fps if I went out of range of a radio station. This was never fixed throughout the few months it took me to finish the game, fortunately I found a workaround. While I don't doubt that Obsidian has some problems, I don't think the Fallout 3 engine was exactly bug free when they got it.

This might have been more convincing if every Obsidian game ever hadn't been riddled with bugs. It's the criticism they always get. Sloppy QC. Stop saying how sorry you are about it, and starting testing your games before shipping them.

Obsidian has been on my black list since Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2. That was the most glitch ridden game I've ever bought, and it didn't help that story other features in the game felt rushed just so the could release before Christmas. Obsidian is one of those few that I ignore whatever game they release regardless of whatever ratings they get because I can always guarantee the game will come out unfinished. Obsidian should have learned their lesson in back 2004.

It's a shame FO:NV had so many issues. It was a fantastic game story-wise. I really didn't even experience many bugs until I was almost at the end, and then the game quality would start to deteriorate and eventually freeze.

I agree with the guy who said to spend a little more on QC and you'll more than make up the money in increased game sales.

Perhaps it was some kind of mutation?
