Thanks for using my tip! (That was fast, too!)
Now that they took such a long time let's hope that there are at least 20 VC games ready at launch.

That was one of the most obvious things that was going to happen. Late May was too close to E3 for Nintendo to not trumpet a bunch of big announcements all at once.

Or, perhaps, Mario 3DS was delayed into 2012, and this is what will be the headline for the portable at the event to take it's place.

Jesus, can ANY of these companies just release something on time and in a finished fashion? Anybody?

It seems like any date ever given no matter the developer, publisher, etc should just have 1 to 2 months just added onto the date.

This seems more like a strategic decision rather than a "can't finish on time" decision. Why else would they delay it until the e3 2011 presentation?

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

And by that, I mean noooooo big surprise. They were bound to use this as another bullet point for their big E3 announcements. Sigh.

On the bright side, I may just have two shiny (half-new) Zelda games to play on my 3DS in the span of just one month!

The update will go live in North America the evening of June 6, so it won't be a situation where the update goes live during the E3 press conference. Well, not Nintendo's. Sony's is another story.

...A week later. In Japan. And people are bitching about it being delayed in another country? And even then, only a week just so some additional features may be revealed at E3? Have we NO patience?

it's just disappointment, that's all, at least for me. I was really looking forward to getting that on the 20th -ish, but it's not like i'm gonna run out and sell my 3ds. If it comes out on that day and there are a few more features added because of that, sweet (the 3d video recording or netflix support that was talked about?). If you check out the link posted above by donaldmick it's been confirmed that it's a world wide delay, and not just in japan.

In fairness, the 3DS is currently completely worthless. The novelty of the launch features, like street pass, have now worn off and there's literally no games. I think a lot of people bought a 3DS, expecting the shop features to come sooner.

Now they seem to be leaving it, just so they can hype it up at E3.

Games are slim, but that's why you play your backlog of DS games until there are games. This is the same reason why the original DS came with a GBA slot, or the 360 and PS3 played previous gen games, the PS2 played PS1 games, and the Wii played Cube games. You act like this is unique to the 3DS. It happens with EVERY platform launch. Either A) wait for Xmas to buy one, or B) shut up and enjoy what's there for it.

Kind of pissed. The 3DS was released with the software unfinished and now I have to wait even longer to get features the DSi crowd has had forever. Still no browser or even the DSi eshop? I don't really regret my purchase, it's still a nice device. It's really easy to see why the 3DS had such a soft launch though. And at this time it's hard to recommended to anyone.

It's funny because the original DS didn't take off until the DSLite came out, and then the DSi of course. It seems like the 3DS is probably going to stagger until it gets that killer app that is not just an amazing game, but is a must have example of 3D.

For a counter argument though, look at the PS3 and even the 360 somewhat. Both had early incomplete launches that added features over time (especially the PS3 in it's first 1-2 years) and have gone on to be hugely successful.

Yeah. Considering the price of the 3DS and the lack of AAA software currently, I'm surprised the launch went as well as it did. I only got mine because I had $220 worth of trade in credit with not much else to spend it on. But I think a price drop is going to be needed to get most people onboard.

Anyways, I have no doubt that in a year or so the 3DS will be a great console to own. I'm just a little unsatisfied with what's there now. Especially the lack of features that were on the DSi.

The DSi doesn't have the "eShop." The eShop is a new service which operates differently than DSiWare. It sounds like it was built from the ground-up, so it's not as simple as porting what the DSi has.

At Least it's got the browser now. There was talk yesterday on other sites the update would be without it. Let's hope as it's being released just before Ninty's E3 press conference there's some extra goodies thrown in. A Mario or Mario kart demo wouldn't go amiss!

Am right there with you in wanting this thing. I hate clicking on stuff like the browser to get a smack in the face saying it won't be available until the next update.

I really hope they make GBA games available via the eShop eventually. I never got to play Zelda: Minish Cap, Golden Sun 2, Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, Metriod Fusion, or Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow... Not to mention I'd buy FFTA for a third time if they release it.

There is a certain logic in delaying it till E3. If they announce it and the games available to it, it will get much more press due to being at E3. It does not make me happy that it is delayed, but I can see why they would think it a good move.

It's funny how Fils-Aime acknowledged that the core fanbase would be the one to adopt early, but they're pushing the 3D camera and street pass as their seller. Banking on our money like that isn't very nice; this drought is terrible.

I've been having fun with Street Fighter and Pilot Wings, and the system itself is sleek.

I know I come across as impatient with a post like this but.. I do feel a little betrayed with this slow start up. June really can't come soon enough.

I doubt there's been a console or handheld that had more than one or two decent launch titles, much less a quicker startup. It's a handheld sporting some pretty snappy new hardware, so it would come to no surprise that there's been a slight drought. Developers are still figuring out what to do with it and what games would appeal best and the like. A lot of good comes out of a little patience.

Eh, its important though, for me at least, that the system have at least some good games out within the first couple months or so. I'm not spending $250 so I can buy maybe one game. It's all gotta equal out price wise for me.

Which is why I'm not willing to buy a 3DS just to buy a $2-3 demo "prologue" for Megaman Legends 3, no matter how much I actually want the game to come out. There isn't anything else out for the 3DS that's not a port of a game I don't own already. If they are expecting the core audience to pay for the 3DS before anyone else, there needs to be a good reason now, not later.

It wouldn't of hurt them to have delayed the 3DS release til later on when more games were ready, but they caved in to corporate money-pusher pressure to just shit the system out with nothing to really back it up. If there was a good amount of games released alongside it, and good ones, sales would be stronger.

And I wouldn't exactly call the 3D a snappy feature, as I'm going to be turning that off pretty much as soon as I get the 3DS. It's a fad attached to a handheld with some boosted graphics, but not by much (the DS handled Super Mario 64 well enough to handle a Ocarina of Time remake). The 3D certainly doesn't excuse the weak battery life for me either.
