They are SOE, so wouldn't they be responsible in some ways for what ends up online and the process of what is actually distributed? You're right I'm the idiot. I the one that didn't have my security backup good enough that now Xbox has taken the lead as the top console again, due to the fact that people can't play games such as Brink on the Ps3. Sony getting hacked doesn't make them idiots, they makes them victim to a crime. If you had anything of value on your computer, let alone in your life, I'm sure those responsible for Sony's theft would have no problem accessing, stealing, then destroying your data and probably your hardware as well.

And for the record, Sony preventing people from playing Brink online should be considered a mercy. You should be thanking them for keeping that pile of unfinished drivel from infecting your PS3 with literal shit.

You're right it is the hackers that are at fault. However, whatever part of Sony offering a few downloads and a month of free online entertainment is going to have to step up a little. Look at the figures, look at the numbers. As someone that runs a business with hundreds of people you need something really good to make up for a month of the servers being offline, fault of no fault. Peace.

Ah yes, the rosebud killer, the upcoming film I'm sure we've all heard about...well some of you...okay just a couplea people, but it's a start. It is however written by the house hold name Craig Everett Earl....nope me neither. Okay, it may turn out good, but don't act as if you're you're A list hollywood director/writer, you just come across as an arrogant douche.

Like the article says, we get a free month, then another free day for each day that the service is down, so yes we will be reimbursed for all the time we lost and potentially more (I'm not sure how long it's been down at this point, the only SOE game I play is DCUO, not that often though.), if they get it up soon. So long as no one's lost any money from the information theft, the only thing they owe us is lost time, which they are making up for.

On top of that we're all being offered a free year of id protection from that company. They're doing all they can, what exactly do you want; monetary compensation for stress? Sue them if you want, but if you haven't actually lost anything besides time, get of your high horse.

Sure a free game would be NICE, but I wouldn't expect it, and you're definitely not entitled to one. Besides I'm sure when you're a famous star next year, you can have all the games you want.

@ChainSmoker There's a difference between security holes and a complete lack of security. Add to this that any company that is not actively pen-testing their servers and patching holes is actually putting shareholders at risk, well, you can see where I am going.

As a network engineer & security consultant I've dealt with companies that act like Sony. Security through obscurity is not security at all.

@ShadowXIII Um, dude. The hackers aren't holding anything hostage right now. Sony brought down their own servers intentionally, and the only reason it's still down now is because they're designing a new back-end from scratch and (hopefully) thoroughly testing it.

@sortius I agree with most of what you said, except hackers do have blame too. Sony unarguably should of taken care of the problem before they were attacked but, PSN was functioning just fine with the security holes. The hackers attacking made Sony turn off PSN, the argument could be made it is just as much their fault for doing it as it is Sony's for allowing it. Just because you leave a wad of cash hanging out of your pocket doesn't give someone the right to take it right?

Well being that this is about SOE, I believe those games have a monthly subscription fee.

My question for you maxxgold is don't you feel you're already paying for online play when you buy a game for $60? Especially when the packaging of said game states it includes multiplayer. I don't get why some xbox users are down on PSN for being free. What's that about? I honestly hope MS will some day offer some sort of free online play service for you guys.

I know the claim is the Live has a better interface. To me that's like saying I can choose between two highways to drive on except one has nice landscaping but I have to pay tolls to use it. Maybe there's more to it I don't know about.

@mitsymckenzie777 Let me first say, I own both a PS3 and 360. Now, first of all, "User data" means CC info, email addresses, your name, home address etc. You will still have all of you saved games, your downloaded games, everything.

Second, "Bill Gates should have shoved those gigantic excuses for gaming consoles where the sun don't shine. Along with the abomination known as Kinect give me a controller any day!" You're completely right, Sony would never market a gimmicky late to the party motion controlled experience would they? O wait, Move is pretty much HD Wii...And as far as the "gigantic excuses for consoles" atm microsoft's excuse of a console is still allowing me to play online and offers the same if not arguably better experience in that space, while being about equal in almost every other aspect except first party games like Heavy Rain, LBP, and Uncharted where Sony has had the edge lately so it balances out.

And finally, most things you don't have to download. You can choose to buy your games in the store on disc if you want it is your choice. DLC is just that downloadable, there is no misinformation in that. It doesn't make as much sense now to put map packs and expansions on disc to be sold at box stores since it cuts profits. Do you think the majority of XBLA and PSN games would exist if the small indie devs didn't have a cheap easy way to distribute their creations? Downloadable content is helping to advance the industry in many ways, I personally always buy content at a store if I can, but I am not against D/ling it if i have to.

@Xero Theory 1st of all thank you for the peace of mind I was worried.

2nd in all logical speaking. Now I could be wrong but Nintendo made the Wii before Sony made PS3 and Microsoft made the 360. HD Graphics on video game systems had not yet been implemented on any console based system. So should the Wii had have been redeveloped in HD where HD unlike a type of controller most likely would not be able to be made as a add on. Meaning after spending I believe it was $300 when Wii came out to buy one. Gamers would have had to trade they're newly used Wii for about $100-$150 so they could buy a new HD version of the same system for $00-$500. All in all PS3 and 360 made it look easy by adding the motion controls which is very different than HD graphics hardware. What make me mad about Kinect is fact that with no controller you have no buttons if you needed to shoot or select other weapons to throw in a game that my require you to use multiple weapons. Not to mention most characters in game can and have to jump very high at times and not everyone can jump as high to make it to a platform or hanging ladder unless they play basketball.

3rd Wii Motion controllers were not the only controllers on the Wii though unfortunately they were used for the majority of games though not all of them you had to stand up to play either even if using motion controls. But normal controllers ranged from GameCube controllers which yes work in some if not6 most Wii games that use the classic controller. Then as I said the classic controller and then they have a classic controller 2 .

4th I know PS3 was pretty big at first which they made slimmer modle later. But Xbox and Xbox 360 have always been big and bulky like a PC so overall if you got the room for a Microsoft console you might as well instead get a PC with Microsoft Windows only thing you'll be missing is the Kinect gimmick.
