The latest iteration of THQ's wrestling simulation series is dropping the unwieldy and kind of silly "Smackdown vs. Raw" title in favor of the short, easy to remember WWE 12. Hard to believe the same series can include both a game with that svelte a title and ones called "WWE Smackdown! Here Comes the Pain." The new game hasn't been specifically announced for any platforms, but the trailer features PlayStation, Wii and Xbox 360 logos.
THQ is showing off its revamped wrasslin' game at E3 and will stream gameplay demos every day during the show next week. In the meantime, you can see the first screens in our gallery and get strangely emotional with Randy Orton after the break.
@Shane86 Im not as big a wwe fan as I used to be, but i feel the same... and they couldnt have picked 4 more pictures to make me think. "wow nothing has changed" no gameplay is a big minus they need to step it up big to get me to by anymore wwe games as they seem so sub par now rather then a big franchise.
I agree. My friends and I play All Stars a lot which WAS a major shift and it paid off for them (in my opinion). I haven't loved a wrestling game that much in years. We were hoping for something like that but instead got whatever WWE '12 turns out to be...
After Orton gets rid of that lame beard he will be a heel again thats where he shines his Lex Luthor to Cena's Superman....Also that showed nothing of the game what did they do search youtube for sjme clips?
@Prboi I hope the story mode is good as well but something tells me any good stories THQ comes up with the actual WWE has first dibbs so you can see them on tv then in the game and not vice versa.
I don't think that's the case. WWE really doesn't oversee anything THQ does with their games other than licensing & things of that nature. They can make their own storylines based on what WWE has done or make some of their own. WWE already has writers for them, I doubt they'd stoop to stealing ideas from a game developer.

Wrestling games have fallen a looooong way....they should rerelease those games on Psn,xbla and steam with online support
@Adhesive : SO BAD it does. A COMPLETE engine overhaul with no semblance to the aging Yukes engine in any way, shape, or form. A completely new studio needs to take over. How bout Nether Realm Studios?
I've been hearing a LOT more talk about wrestling these days. More and more people I hear from are getting back into watching WWE. I certainly am. It's TVPG, but the storylines and completely over the top theatrics are great. Is wrestling getting popular again?
@jdlyga : Nope. It's as horrible as ever. It's not getting popular again, it's getting a new audience of people that either weren't wrestling fans or haven't been in many years at the expense of the wrestling fans that have been the core for the past 15 years. 'Wrestling' is basically an afterthought. It's about 20% wrestling and 80% everything else. The current WWE product has a loyal fan-base and God bless them, but they can keep it. I know rubbish when I see it. It's a pale imitation of the product we saw in the 80s. What's missing are....
*Story-lines that make sense *Good actual wrestling matches *Unscripted promos *Meaningful title reigns *Meaningful storylines that come to a climax to a major PPV
No. But back then they did use more wrestling manuevers than they do now. Now its just a ton of fake punches and kicks and big finishers for wow factor. Wrestling technique has pretty much gone out the window sans a few guys still in the biz.
