It seems as if this trailer is trying really hard to remind me of other sci-fi properties. The city, of course, is very Blade Runner with a dash of 5th Element, a movie which also shows up alongside Mass Effect in the alien designs. And then we've got Predator-style shoulder missiles, Mirrors Edge parkour with rocket boots, and to top it all off, a music track that immediately calls Firefly to mind.

For the record, I'm totally okay with this.

i thought it was more of Firefly's captain Malcolm stepped into the boots of the star wars bountyhunter with shoulderrockets like iron man.

Well, the music track immediately reminds me of Johnny Cash. Cause it's the man in black.

Regardless, great song accompanies great trailer. Scifigasm

@lydonw - It should remind you of Johnny Cash, because it is.

I'm down for this game, 80%. Why 80%? Because Bethesda could have very easily started this off as a new IP and sent Human Head back into the studio to work on a proper Prey sequel. That is, unless, there is some other story connection to the first game other than "Remember that plane at the beginning of the game getting sucked up? Yea, the protagonist is on that plane. And he's a badass."

Very cool. But wasn't prey about an american indian kidnapped by aliens? This looks like blade runner mass effect.

No problem with the formula, just wondering if this should just be an original IP instead.

@starcommandgame I kind of agree but apparently that guy shows up, so I am wondering if they aren't going to dovetail the end of this game into Prey 3 starring both guys. While the first game wasn't my favorite it did at least try to do original things.

And exploding vagina doors.

Yup yup. That's the main reason I can't get excited about Prey 2. I mean, I'm OK with developers changing things up for the sequel but this appears to have NOTHING to do with the original other than the fact that there are aliens of some sort.

This trailer, while being devoid entirely of game play, still looks amazing. IF this is what they are going for you can count me in as a day 1 purchase.

I did find it funny the alien called him a "MF'er". Even if the human protagonist has some sort of translation device its still funny.

It'll be quite a feat, but if they can get the game as action packed and as faced pace as the trailer, sign me up!

Less trailer, more gameplay. Brink had an awesome CG trailer and look how mediocre it ended up (I like it, but it came out quite flawed and unpolished compared to gameplay and interview videos). Bethesda you make these awesome trailers but you gotta make sure your developers deliver!

Cool trailer, but one thing bothers me and that is the aliens speaking english not in their native tongue.

Ya, cause I love trailers where I can't understand what's going on.

@evilkoala having subtitles at the bottom of the screen would help. But I hope when the game comes out the protagonist will get some kind of injection similar to how john criton from farscape got when everyone around him was speaking in their native tongue.

@Dance Mofo You can better well believe that it is either, 1. After the years of being kidnapped from earth he learned the languages. Or some time of universal translator.

@Dance Mofo
if you look at the bottom of the HUD when it first activates, there is a short flash of text that says "Universal Translator Active"
Happy?

Prey: Main character was a Native American wielding alien weaponry with spirit powers
Prey 2: Main Character is a futuristic cowboy bounty hunter with the cybernetic equivalent of a Dead Eye mechanic.

In Prey 2, Tommy is an important plot device apparently. So the cowboy meets the indian. In space.

This seems more and more like a proper sequel to prey the more I hear about it.

F Bethesda they spent half the games budget on that trailer. They did the same thing with Brink and Hunted. All the marketing in the world won't fool me.

@Mr Esc is the namesarcasm is my don't most games get better with sequels? Unlike hollywood, that seems to be the case with videogames. I'll bet it's better than the first one. But that's just what the game industry tends to lean towards.

HOKEY SMOKES

That was a hell of a trailer. A lot seemed like it was live-action. Wonder what the game will actually look like? Unless this was for an unnamed next-gen system. Which would be pretty awesome.

I never played the first one but I did like the ideas of portals and the gravity switching, or whatnot, and I actually kinda still wanna check it out. So I do find it very odd that they switch up the things so much for a "sequel". Having said that, I find the ideas in the sequel (sci-fi bounty hunter) very cool in and on themselves and if they can achieve the kinda gameplay hinted at in this trailer then the game might be totally awesome.

@Noksukow

Why they still call this Prey 2, however, is beyond me.

I mean, I understand the concept of prey and predator, but this has nothing to do with the original game. AT ALL. It seems like they're just too afraid to come up with an original IP and are gonna try to cash-in the success of the franchise.

This looks like a prey game. But not a Prey game.

I thought a plane got sucked up at the beginning of Prey ? And this game is just swtiching to that point of view or something of the sort.

@Dirame

That is correct. I was talking more about the gameplay elements, such as portals, and the characters/setting (no Native American protagonist), however. This is like making a game out of one of the crates that fell off the plane at the beginning of Bioshock and calling it Bioshock 2.

Wha-- Portals are simply the main element of gameplay in Prey. Just because you can't create them at your will, like in... well, Portal (which was released later), it doesn't mean they're not as important.
