This game looks really sweet. In some ways it reminds me of Diddy Kong Racing. Obviously you didn't transform in that game, but you could ride hovercrafts, karts and planes depending on the track. I'm not sure why more kart titles never riffed on that.

Man, I put a ton of hours into Diddy Kong Racing. Yeah, I really don't get why Mario Kart is just now taking some parts of DKR. I would've thought some sort of aircraft would've been in either the GC, Wii, or DS versions.

Sounds like someone wasn't far enough ahead at the last turn of the final lap when they got hit...

It's not about being far in the lead. It's about getting hit at certain points which then knock you off the track and you end up in 11th place. This is why I didn't play the Wii version much because I'd always get hit by one when I'm on the bouncy mushrooms and lose. It wasn't fun or challenging, it was completely cheap.

It's also about how there are people online on the Wii version who found a way to cheat by having unlimited Blue Shells. I guess they didn't know how to win otherwise.

That said, I wish this was coming to the Wii instead of 3DS ... but I guess I'll have to wait for the update on the Wii U.

I personally can't stand the way the give the best items to the worst players just to help them keep up...they need to keep it random all the time or at least valence it so that instead of nerfing the good players they just boost the bad players....I mean come on an undodgeable homing weapon to hit the person in first is ridiculously unfair

I liked double dash a lot. MK Wii not quite as much but was still decent.

I personally loved playing as Diddy Kong and Bowser Jr. It was always fun being first and dropping giant bananas. Should someone pass me, they get hit with a giant shell. :P

Anyone remember Diddy Kong Racing....that game was pretty really good and had a really good single player. The reason I bring it up is because you could control carts, planes and hovercrafts...

So it's a nice coincidence that the bulk of the old Rare branched off to form Retro Studios and is now helping with...(wait for it)...Mario Kart 3DS! So if it looks a lot like DKR, that's because it kinda is.

@False You have a fitting username.

One: The bulk of Rare didn't split off in any one great move.
Two: A few key designers split off and formed Free Radical and Zoonami.
Three: There's been a slow exodus of the rest of the key staff, following the departure of The Brothers Stamper.
Four: Retro Studios was NOT formed by Rare employees, it was actually founded by a lot of Iguana (Turok series) staff and populated by a few choice people from studios like Origin, Square Studios, Take2, Dreamworks Interactive, and Valve.

This looks like a much more interesting add on than the bikes and double dash system. Kudos to Nintendo for finding a way to keep an old property fresh and not simply wringing the golden teats of the cash cow.

All of those hours spent just hustling around each track over and over and over again will forever linger in my mind. What good times those are.

Pity I don't own a 3DS.

I'll def be picking this up when it releases. My 3DS is HUNGRY for something good to play. Other than ghost recon the catalogue doesn't appeal to me. They got between now and the time Vita releases to convince me to keep it.

I didn't own double dash, other than Wii Kart the last one I owned was DS Kart, loved it, especially the online with the exception of the losers who would snake. Listening to snakers talk like they didn't think they were being complete douches when doing it is always comical. I did like double dash even though it felt odd at times. I personally absolutely love using the Wii wheel, think that's lots of fun. After this E3 I know ill be getting a 3ds at some point, so it'll be fun to have a kart to play on it.

As much as I love Mario Kart, I highly despise online play. I always seem to get matched up with people who know how to teleport all over the track. We'll see what kind of shenanigans these f*ckers come up with when this launches.

In related news, I wonder if Nintendo has a way to block cheaters ... probably not.

But it's a good thing really. That game was god-brilliant.

I honestly think Mario Kart DS is the best in the series (with Mario Kart Wii being the worst) and this one can definitely prompt me to purchase a 3DS.

I'd actually have to give the award for worst to Mario Kart 64. I loved the game and played the crap out of it, but the rubber band AI was annoying as hell (no matter how fast you went, the racers in second and third were consistently riding your ass).

Then again, my story of the AI in that game is inconsistent with the experiences of my friends, so maybe I just had a weird cartridge?

Sounds good. Still gunna take a hell of alot of revisions to beat Kario Kart DS. Althout half of those revisions are admittedly just not repeating things which were introduced in Mario Kart Wii...

Looks great. I loved Mario Kart Wii, played it for many many hours (until online started to suck with all the cheaters).

I guess my only concern about this one would be how many tracks there are going to be. Doesn't really matter, I guess I'll buy it anyhow.

Mario Kart DS was surperb game. Finest in the series, and a true triple-A, grade-A title.

Thankfully, this game will take it's cues from that one. I really did not like Mario Kart Wii, and it's bikes and silly trick system.

Super Mario Kart = The only Mario Kart with a Rainbow Road worth a damn.

The Mario Karts with coins that increased your top speed where the best in terms of gameplay. There was actually some strategic element to the games. I think this was just the SNES and GBA ones.
