Witcher 2 senior producer Tomek Gop leaves CD Projekt Red [update]

As CD Projekt Red crams The Witcher 2 onto the Xbox 360, it does so without senior producer Tomek Gop. The developer's LinkedIn profile indicates that he left CD Projekt Red sometime in June, after being at the company since March 2006. His time there included stints as a producer on The Witcher 2 and the RED Engine, and as a "production coordinator" on the first Witcher.

GOG PR manager Lukasz Kukawski told VG247 that Gop had apparently left not only CD Projekt Red, but the game industry in general, though no information was provided about his future plans.

Update: CD Projekt confirmed Gop's departure in a statement to Joystiq, also including a note from Gop saying that his reasons for leaving were "mainly personal." And as for leaving the game industry, Gop said "though possible, I wouldn't bet on it. It's addictive..."

Also, Lukasz Kukawski is the PR manager for Good Old Games, not CDP. We've corrected that reference.

I'm worried about how this game will sell on the 360, its coming out a few days after Skyrim, I love this game but you can't beat the Skyrim hype machine

@bigdonny i will play both! Gonna hit my wallet pretty hard but i don't care i love RPGs!

hopefully he will never make a game again so there is no more garbage like The Witcher in the future

I know right, I want a bunch of casual-oriented easy shooters. Stop giving me good hardcore RPGs, they are garbage. They should stop trying to diverse the gaming industry!

All games should be easy first person shooters and tells the gamer what they have to do. Hold my hand gah dang it!! Why not even play for me?! That is better.

waaaaahh! this game's hard and i don't want to learn how to play it. waaaaah! no one's holding my hand. i don't know what i'm supposed to do next. this game sucks. waaaaaaaaah!!

Hi, just a quick note from me. I did in fact leave CD Projekt RED. The Witcher 2 X360 is in works and shaping up good - I'm a producer, not project lead so I'm still quite confident guys will make it. My reasons were mainly personal - we're still friends with CDP and there's no bad blood.
About leaving the industry... though possible, I wouldn't bet it. It's addictive... :)

So he's probably burnt out right now but I'd expect him back.

More than a bit surprising. He seemed extremely enthusiastic about what he was doing in all of the interviews he's done recently. Sounds like he may have just been burnt out or something though. Obviously a talented and passionate guy, hope he comes back to the industry and continues to make great games.

Uhh what the heck. Tomek was awesome and seemed incredibly enthusiastic. Why on earth did I leave? I hope it wasn't something too bad.
