I still miss the old format, but I really like the roundtable idea, seems like that will really jam. Even if I didn't like it, it's good enough to hear Luddy again, with what I can only assume will be a mountain of puns

@TheDarkWayne

The Joystiq Podcast became a huge part of my life, and there's always gonna be a sweet spot for that in my heart. But that doesn't mean I can't make room for another set of memoties from this. Can't wait to listen.

And that's wonderful that Luddy is on. I was honestly craving to hear his voice after this long absence of the best podcast of all time.

@Shadowbender Exactly, joystiq podcast was my favorite podcast on the internet, and this one will probably soon take it's place, but however it goes it's not like it'll retroactively make me not like the old episodes. If nothing else, there's always the youtube clips of Joystiq Podcast Space Ghost X Razor Chat.

Guys, I know that is hard to listeners to get used to changes but this format or style is not working. For so many podcast that I hear I stop worrying if you guys are gonna update your feed. Take 6 months or take 10 years, I wait until the old crew comes back.

The roundtables are decent, but I still think the interviews don't work on this podcast. They would be much more interesting to read through (you can skip parts much more easily) or as audio placed over gameplay footage (more engaging to people who aren't already sold on a game). I just got bored listening, which used to be unheard of for a podcast coming from Joystiq.

The format doesn't lend itself to keeping a wide audience hooked for the entire show. At least this time it wasn't all one game, so I got to hear a bit about a game I care about (Rock of Ages). But still, spending more than 5-10 minutes on one game is something many podcasts avoid doing (including ye' olde Josytiq Podcast ).

I don't want to be "that guy" who always comes to complain, but the Joystiq Podcast and X3F were so good! This just isn't there yet, and maybe my feedback will help (or, we'll get down-talked on Twitter by Chris, like last time...).

@Electrium

I agree, the interviews would be much better placed over gameplay footage... they are just too boring standalone.

I only listened to about half of the podcast before I had to turn it off, it just felt too dull and couldn't grab my attention. I will probably go back and listen to the rest if I feel up to it - but to be honest I just don't really want to listen to the rest of it, which makes me feel bad because I always wanted to listen to the Joystiq Podcast.

Good luck to your future endeavors Joystiq Show, I am not sure how much longer I will be sticking around. Still love the site though and won't be leaving that!

@SilverPR I agree 100%. I've been downloading this podcast since ep 12. I loved it because of the irreverence and the chemistry between Justin, Luddy and Chris. I understand that you guys want to evolve, but this format doesn't work, isn't fun to listen to and quite frankly I'm seriously thinking about unsubscribing to it. I don't mind if you guys don't want to be the only ones to do the podcast anymore, but we need a host and at least one other person that is going to be on the show every week. You can float a third or fourth person in week to week but that's it.

I know you guys want to do something different, something that other gaming podcasts aren't doing, but there's a reason why almost all the gaming podcasts have the same format. It's because it works. I feel like you cut off your nose to spite your face. Sorry guys.

I haven't listened yet, but before this comment gets buried in a sea of others: can we get The Joystiq Show more often than once a month? I realize they take a bit more work to complete than the old format, but even 2 per month would be better than a 3 week absence.

Looking forward to listening!

im with ilduce620. the new format is ok but once a month just isnt working for me [especially after dedicating the 1st show to duke nukem]

vg news is everywhere and any new info is regurgitated in every outlet for days: podcasts make a big difference where i go for news

joystiq podcast brought me to the site but without a regular podcast the stiq just doesnt seem to have the same amount of personality

truth is i dont care where i get the news from but i click thru joystiq because of the podcasts and the personalities

i like the joystiq style/method of rating and reviewing games, i just wish the stiq had a regular podcast again.

x3f and JP were the best vg podcasts on the web: hopefully the joystiq show will up the ante [soon], cause this is kill me so far

I'm a mature professional guy who has been gaming and listening to yours and other podcasts since the very beginning. I rarely comment on any website (not my style) but I feel I just have to add my opinion.

Over the years many have come and gone but Joystiq has long remained one of my 3 or 4 'go to' gaming podcasts (Cagcast, the old 1Up Yours now 'evolved' into Weekend Confirmed and Gamers with Jobs being the others). I would constantly check my itunes in anticipation of the latest episode and the ensuing couple of hours of light hearted banter with a gaming slant.

I'm sorry guys, for me anyway its just not working. I hate to say it and I am certainly no 'stick-in-the-mud' but I truly miss the old format. Frankly the new show is just so dry, dreary, boring, and entirely un-entertaining. Sadly its actually almost unlistenable imo.

I imagine its of little concern to you but I will be unsubscribing on itunes. And I hope others do the same as a way to send a message. I will keep an eye on the website in the hope that either the old format makes a return in some fashion or you find a way for a re-reboot but this time without losing the frivolity that is so sadly absent. In the meantime I will be renaming it the Dullstiq Podcast.

Anyway I like you guys and hope that ultimately it all works out for the Joystiq Podcast.

I agree wholeheartedly. I've been listening to a lot of podcasts for a long time, and the Joystiq podcast has been in my rotation as long as I can remember.

The JP always had a certain charm to it that made me enjoy it, regardless of what they were talking about. The hosts were lovable enough that it didn't matter if Chris was playing some game from 2001 because the discussion and banter was worth it.

Now they've axed all of that and are going for more "timely" dicussions, but the podcast is definitely suffering for it. The interviews just don't work. Maybe it's me, but they're just too boring. We've gone from a show more a fun and enjoyable show to a boring, dry, slow-paced show. It's worse than Major Nelson's show.

The roundtable discussions are ok, but the other portions are so, so boring and uninteresting that it isn't worth listening to for the good parts.

I don't know joystiq, I really don't get it. You had something good and you've gone and killed it. I won't be unsubscribing yet, because I think this is an improvement over the Duke Nukem episode, but I might eventually if it stays like this.

not goin as far to unsubscribe but its hard not to agree with [ugh] unverified: the joysiq show isnt delivering as promised

sure everybody does a wrup segment but thats only because it works and listeners [imo] genuinely want to know whats in the tray

gettng ppl involved and having interviews and unique content is great but once a month just doesnt fill the void 8 Podcasts left behind

change is good, keep changing

Hypothetically.

Ah, now this is much better. I appreciate that you guys worked hard on that last episode, I mean the production values were a massive step up from the previous podcast but an entire episode about Duke Nukem and Vaporware wasn't that engaging. I like this episode a lot more than the last one and I'm looking forward to the next one.

This new format of podcast feels to me, as Alexander Sliwinski put it for Halo Reach, sterile.

Personally speaking, I enjoy listening to podcasts because of the people, not the content. The natural interaction between people with chemistry will bring the content I love listening to. However, this new format focuses on bringing content first and people second, isolating individuals and interrupting the natural flow of conversation. It feels very sterile, there's no chance for character to show through even though there's pretty good content in here that was missing from the old podcasts. I probably will not be able to listen to this podcast much longer if it keeps to the current format but I wish you guys the best.

agreed. i listened to x3f and JP for the personalities and friendly banter, the content was almost secondary. [re: almost!]

the new format can stay but id like to see someone on staff really inject it with some of that classic joystiq [off center?] flavor

This whole thing is just too serious. I feel like I'm listening into a Monday morning conference call.

The interview segments are too drawn out, like they have to be stretched to fit a pre-determined time slot. There are very few developers who are worth listening to. Most of them are introverts and lack the charisma to hold the listeners attention, which is required when listening to a podcast. There is a reason why gameplay videos are almost always played while a developer in being interviewed.

Other than that, it's not too bad. Just not my cup of tea. I look to unwind listening to podcasts on my way home from work, and this is just too "sit up straight" for me.

I appreciate the hard work you guys put in for a free product. I still love the Joystiq site and will continue to visit.

In my lengthy and illustrious career as a podcast listener, nothing sucks the fun and honesty out of a conversation like concern for a nervous guest's feelings or fear of their PR handler intervening.

@Tez It should tell people something that the Giant Bomb guys can get away with doing an entire podcast about reading the Nintendo WiiWare and DSiWare press releases and it's still more entertaining than about 99% of gaming podcasts out there.

It's pretty clear that in the gaming podcast arena, content is NOT king.
