DeNA's popular Japanese mobile gaming platform, Mobage, is getting a major boost from some of the nation's leading gaming industry figures. During a press conference held earlier today (as translated by Andriasang), DeNA revealed that five famed producers will develop games for the platform, including Keiji Inafune, who's creating a game titled J.J. Rockets with his new studio Comcept, and Suda 51, who will make a new installment in the No More Heroes franchise.
Other contributors include Marvelous Entertainment's Yoshifumi Hashimoto, who is working on a Harvest Moon mobile title, former Sonic Team lead Yuji Naka, who will develop an adventure game with his new studio Prope, and Crafts & Meister co-founder Noritaka Funamizu. Sounds like a pretty great lineup, though we wish the five would also collaborate on a single project. The idea of a No More Heroes farming simulator is, well, the best idea.

I am not anti-mobile gaming, but this seems like such a waste of talent.

Apparently the only direction for the industry to go now is backwards.

If I may get a little controversial here; I'm really happy to see this trend. Mobile gaming is mostly dog crap. If its going to mature, video game developers that know what their doing need to make games for iOS, Android, WP7 etc.
The DS and PSP are great and I'm excited to see what's to come for the 3DS and Vita, however I truly believe that the next wave of handheld devices are already in our pockets. It's your iPhone, your HTC Evo, your Touchpad...these devices and ones like it are where video games are headed.
YES, like I said, a lot of the games are pretty bad right now. But that's why I'm excited to see Chair, Suda 51, Inafune and other take a crack at it. Hopefully we'll see some excellent games in the near future for our mobile devices.

@NaeemTHM yah i pretty much agree with almost everything you said. Seeing pros like Inafune develop games for iOS and other mobile gaming platforms will raise the bar i think for gaming on said devices. I shelled out a little extra for Deathsmiles by Cave on my iOS because it's a solid bullet hell shooter that actually plays very well on a touch screen. I look forward to what the future has in store for the mobile market.

Mobile gaming sucks. This might help, but shitty iOS devs will kill the industry one day.

Well for Suda at least, I think this is just a project on the side (Grasshopper has grown quite a bit). I wouldn't be surprised if Funamizu and Yuji Naka ended up developing iPhone games, what with their games having sold poorly. I think Inafune is also targeting mobile games, and probably social games as well, but it would look a bit daft if, after trash-talking other Japanese devs so much, he didn't make an attempt at all on an HD release.
