Agreed. Watching Noah play was a real treat. This kid shows some very promising decision-making skills, and I can't wait to see more of him. I felt sorry for everyone that played him though. Poor Chris G got booed off the stage. o_o

The MK, MvC3, and SSF4AE matches were pretty intense...Tekken 6, not so much. Missed the BlazBlue finals =(. Major congrats to PerfectLegend...he worked his ass off for that.

@blessrok Tekken 6 was super non-hype. Even Kor looked bored when he won the grand finals :P

@blessrok: The MK finals were amazing. PerfectLegend's Kung Lao is insane. Its no wonder he won the tournament. I'll give REO props for giving him a good challenge though.

BB was pretty bad, unless you really like Haku-Men it wasn't worth the watch as he just completely dominated. LK lost with Lillith (really bad), then switched to Makota (didn't watch but he still lost) and then went back to Lil to lose the grand finals..
Tekken wasn't as bad as everyone said it was although nothing amazing happened. Was pretty awesome when he picked Miguel.

The real fun though was MvC3/AE and you should definantly go watch all the finals for those two on YouTube, they're about a hour and half each.

I love Mortal Kombat, but watching tournament play for it is way more boring than I thought it'd be.

ALSO: Poongko dominating the shit out of Daigo was amazing.

I thought it was actually quite interesting.

What started off a a series with no concept of balance has evolved into a long game of combos and meter management.

Makes me really rethink how I need to play this game to do well.

@mrantimatter I think the problem is that it's too easy in the new Mortal Kombat to a) get a really long combo, or b) break out of it. So almost every combo in those matches was either really long, or broken out of immediately. It just wasn't as interesting as the Street Fighter matches because, in SF, if you're getting a long combo, it's because you're really effing good and it's way more impressive.

Mortal Kombat is really fun to play because of the nature of the combos, but it makes it less interesting to watch I think. It's like checkers (MK) vs. chess (SF).

You know that the video isn't a highlight reel? It's the intro video they had used for the stream, reposted to Youtube.

Also, POOOOOOOOOOOOOOONKGOOOOOOOOOO!!

This is so twelve hours ago.

Seriously though, awesome competition. I missed Tekken, which everyone said was lame, but MK, MvC, and SSF4 were all nailbiters the whole way through. I'm a little letdown that Daigo or Latif didn't win SF, or that PR Balrog didn't take MvC, but what can you do. Well done Fuudo.

I didn't watch EVO, but I'm really amazed at how cut-and-dry the top MK character choices are. None of the riskier, weirder characters like Noob Saibot made it up there. Not even Ermac, who everyone thought was a total beast. I suppose there's more comfort zone in characters like Liu Kang, but I can't wait to see somebody play a really good, competitive Sektor, for instance.

@Once known as Shadsy Welcome to fighting games in general.

When $10k is on the line, why sell yourself short with weaker characters?

@jynxycat exactly, like the switch to Cyrax at the end. Unless he thought he was perfect w/that character there was no need to switch...well, maybe he thought there'd be reward in that risk, but it sure didn't pay off.

That was 'The moment' for Evo 2011, and probabaly the best upset in a round in a long long time. That was masterful tron play.

Phoenix is infuriating to watch. She is just so cheap. If Viscant had won without using her, I would give him mad respect (I doubt he cares, lol) to me Puerto Rican Balrog is the real winner.

@Solais
The key to phoenix is to snap her in and take her out before she gets to 5 bars.

Many players were able to knock her out that way. One good long combo is all it takes to kill her, shes an absolute glass canon.

This years evolution was cool and is a wake up call too think about the tekken 6 tourney was so voting because namco is taking less risks with the gameplay and isn't balancing enough I hate to say it but as much as capcom lets us gamers down you gotta admit that they keep things interesting and fresh with balance tweaks and rage meters even though I really hate xfaxtor I'm mvc3 and as for mk9 man I'm so proud of people supporting this game and I knew it would do well and like someone else said here there's endless possibilities for this game and it's so fun but Kung Lao is a beast if used skillfully.

I like joystiq covering competitive gaming a bit more. Also I found most of the matches in top 8 in all the games to be pretty awesome. My favorite was Spark's Hakumen (which is a low tier character) taking on all comers.

Best EVO moment was JWong's MvC3 comeback using an Akuma with no health... lol. And, even with the finals lacking Daigo, they were damn fun... although I must say I loved seeing not only a Fei take it all, but Latif get his ass beat inward.

Daigo's Poongko match-up was doomed, though. Everybody knows Yun and Poongko read Daigo like a book. Still, you won't ever see a top 8 without the Beast.

Lastly, Tekken and MK just don't belong here. They're both respectable series, but I just don't see them as tournament caliber, let alone fun to watch and too many of the titles, in their respective series, are hit n' miss as far as quality goes.

@UnverifiedUser im pretty shur mk wont be going anywhere, while its their first year back in the tournament scene in a while its built up some momentum, and with highly respected players like justing wong and chris g hopping on mk its most definantly is tournament caliber. If you saw the finals which it seems like you skipped on you would notice that there is not a skill drop off compared to the other games top tier.

Poongko... that little spammer. But Fuudo was some serious mother****er.

Spark and Lord Knight battles were frenetic, damn.

The 8yo from MvC, haha, unbelievable.

MK9 sucks, not surprised.

Im kinda disappointed Latif eliminated Daigo in AE, I was really hoping to see him and Poongko run it back. Its really hard to gauge who's better when they only got to play each other in 2 match. I would like to see a longer set between those 2.

Evo was amazing this year, so many upsets and highlights:
-JWong getting perfected in his top game.
-Daigo getting perfected in his top game, neither of them made grandfinals.
-Michaelangelo among many other favorites not making top 8 in MK9, besides Perfect Legend.
-PR Rog's sick Tron comeback against Phoenix.
-8 year old Noah beasting his way to top 48 in Marvel.
-KayoPolice/Aris commentary (LMAO watch it if you havent on YT)
-Spark's absolute defense impregnable Haku-men.
-Latif killing 3 SF4 monsters back to back.
-Some Deadpool player almost OCV'ing with Deadpool only to blow himself up to death in the end.
-Tokido top 8 in 3 games.
-Last but not least, Fuudo's undefeated perfect Fei Long play.

Man I dont think the next Evo can outdo all this, but I'm really hoping to be wrong~!
