Brink on Steam playable for free this weekend, on sale 50% off
30
If you've been debating about playing Brink, this deal could push you over the edge. Splash Damage's team-based FPS is free on Steam until Sunday at 1PM Pacific. The game is also 50 percent off, so if you have a good time, it'll only set you back $25.
But wait, there's another option: Brink is also included in the Steam QuakeCon pack, a $495 value available for $70. It includes Brink, along with what appears to be every game available on Steam from publishers Bethesda Softworks and id Software.
Give Brink a spin and see if it's right for you -- we weren't too keen.
[Thanks, Ethan Lewis]

Unless you're in Australia, where it's only 25% off. Bringing it down to $67.49 USD

I picked this up the other day during the Amazon.com gold box event for $20. I've played a few hours of it and its not bad, but I sort of quit noticing the whole SMART thing after about 30 min. It felt like it just allowed me to run in straight lines instead of having to maneuver around objects. I think the whole parkour movement thing would have surely LOOKED cooler if it was 3rd person. That way I can watch myself doing the cool moves instead of just watching my hands grab stuff.
The only other recent FPS I've played is Borderlands, which was awesome. As a diversion Brink is not bad, but as a full $60 type of game it really falls short of expectations.

The game is worth playing, it just has a lot of odd design decisions and problems that clearly show laziness. Anyone who has tried to beat the singleplayer challenges knows what I'm talking about.

Everytime I tell myself "I have enough games, no need to buy any for awhile" steam has a sale, I black out, and wake up with my slush fund mysteriously empty.
Damn it...

Hrmm... anyone actually ever play Call of Cthulhu? I passed that one up back in the day, might get it for 7 bucks.

I purchased the Xbox version and I really enjoyed it. If you like Horror-Adventure games, this is probably my third favourite after Eternal Darkness and Amnesia for reference. And if you like Lovecraft, this is really a no brainer - that's a good price and you should go for it!

By the way I was watching Freakazoid the other day (finally got the DVDs) and Cthulhu is in it lol. I guess I wasn't a fan when the show first aired, too young.

"The Original" rocket launcher for the Soldier with the Quakecon pack? That is the only thing I want. Can I just get that instead of all these other games I've had at one point in time?

I tried it. The game feels a bit off though.

Is it sad that the game I got the most excited seeing in the pack was Commander Keen?

I picked it up during the Amazon $20 sale and I quite like it. I wish I had the option to play without bots, so that maybe it would try harder to group actual people together.
I played a 8 vs 8 match that was interesting, but it was only 2 vs 1 as far as actual people. Still, its an interesting diversion for $20 and I encourage people to try it out for free. If nothing else, they'll know what to expect for when it goes on sale for $10 during Black Friday.

They ended up having to drop multiplayer support to 4v4 I thought due to the immense lag felt by anyone in a match greater than 2v2. At that point I got rid of the game. I tried to like I really did.
Awful you couldn't pair up with friends easily too.

Have you played since the recent title updates? I've had Brink for the 360 since launch (I blame KMart and their ridiculous coupon deals), and at launch the game was pretty much unplayable with anything over 2v2. The lag in the game, at the time, made the multiplayer in Vampire Rain and The Darkness look flawless.
Since the DLC and title update came out I've noticed VAST improvement. I've played quite a lot of matched since then with no issues, and was playing an 8v8 game last night pretty seamlessly and I wasn't even hosting.
I'd say Brink is worth $25 now if you like class based shooters. Damn game just needs a lobby system now!

Never got the art direction of Brink. A good game, but everybody look's like Frankenstein. Long ass faces and whatnot. Huge turnoff.

@Mastadon Agreed. Not sure why they had to make everyone look like that... either...
