This is just stupid ... these guys make there dlc so much in advance and they delay it ! this is a joke ... this game it self feels like an add on to Fallout 3 ... personally this is why i hate obsidian.

@BillyMays Or ya know, maybe they're actually trying to fix it? Just because something is produced early, doesn't mean they don't find bugs at a later date. Yeah, it sucks when things are pushed back, but I would rather wait and have something that works properly, than pay 10 bucks for something right now that cant even function. Also, New Vegas is the furthest thing from an expansion I've ever seen. It's a completely different game. I think everyone has their qualms with Obsidian, but what you're saying is just stupid.

Except for the part where it's much better than Fallout 3 ever hoped it could be, right?

I haven't felt the magic that makes it a better game than Fallout 3. I'm taking my time, but I'm about 20 hrs in. I just got into New Vegas and the strip.

It gets better later?

The main things to me were:

Much more variety in weapons, mods, crafting/reloading
Survival and hardcore modes
Revised, more intelligently laid out skills and perks
SPECIAL actually matters, and can change the game at times (run with 1 int for example)
Multiple story branches/options.
better graphics/voiceacting/character modeling
more memorable characters (IMHO at least)
More true to fallout mythos/culture.

I probably won't make many friends with the way I stated that, but it is my personal opinion that New Vegas was better than 3. I did enjoy Fallout 3 somewhat when it launched, but it's just been so hard to get motivated to play my GOTY edition now after having played New Vegas.

Definitely for all the things mrantimatter mentioned. Getting to New Vegas was kind of a turning point, but when you actually get to know the different factions and pick a side, I thought that was where everything started flowing better.

The turnoff of part 3 for me was the threadbare fantasy plot, the absurd finale of the game, and the characterization of "the bad guys".

@Fynn: I like Fallout: New Vegas but I don't consider it "better" than Fallout 3. I see it as an expansion. The gameplay changes slightly in a few select areas and the storylines different but ultimately, they're still based off the same engine and core gameplay that made Fallout 3 what it is.

That doesn't mean it's not a good game, but it's still no largely different to Fallout 3 in terms of gameplay. FO3 was still FNV's base. They didn't use a new engine.

Aside from that, I don't get to blow up an entire freakin' city in FNV. For that reason alone, FO3 wins in my books. >.>

Call NV an expansion if you want. I spent 120+ hours playing your "expansion."

Other than graphics New vegas is not better than fallout 3. The enclave is a much better enemy than the legion they were badaced. the followers in new vegas are lame, fawkes was indestructible without shooting four mini nukes at him. The mod thing is okay, but the dlcs in fallout 3 were way better than dead money (no freedom whatsoever) , broken steel , point lookout, the special weapons were better , lincs repeater, callahans magnum, more options for alien weaponry. After game of the year fo3 came out , dogmeat could take down deathclaws and was stronger than any companions in new vegas. lonesome road will be a let downn just like dead money, owb, and honest hearts these dlcs have been as good as the pitt at best and that was fo3's worst one to date,. what followers are semi entertaining in fnv? boone is borinng, raul whines about his knees too much when sneaking, lily is annoying and veronica whines about dresses.

dont think that is what he meant, nv isnt meant to be a 4th fallout its just its own game not a sequel to 3, basically bethesda and obsidian wanted to make a quick buck by makin some bs nv story up. or he is just sayin its a extention of fo3 because it isnt much different. when bethesda and obisidian can make a fallout where the women look hot (without mustaches) and the dudes dont look like tools instead of bad mofos, then ill have faith in them haha

@guts1314 Kid, what are you saying? NV has twice as many dynamic as Fallout 3, especially with their dlcs. And freedom? I felt like I was on a tight schedule playing Operation Anchorage because I wasn't aloud to touch anything or shoot anyone that wasn't an enemy. I'll give props to point lookout and broken steel but once you beat zeta, the pitt, or operation anchorage, theres not much you can do. Not to mention how much more New Vegas was in depth. It actually showed that humanity was trying to rebuild their civilization, with the caravans moving and the NCR trying to civilize the wasteland. Fallout 3 was just broken to pieces and was utter garbage. And one last thing, your just saying the COMPANIONS in New Vegas sucked because you wanted Fawkes so he could kill everyone for you so you didn't have to do anything. If you actually took a second to realize that New Vegas has a lot more gameplay (At least twice as many enemies, quests, unique weapons, and settlements) maybe you would be able to enjoy the game more. There's more to games then graphics buddy.

This is a little irksome, since a lot of people were worried that Lonesome Road would be delayed due to Old World Blues having been delayed back in July.

In response to people saying Lonesome Road would be delayed to September, Bethesda posted the following message two weeks ago:

'Good lord, you guys are paranoid.

It will be out in August. We delayed OWB because of the patch. We don't have that worry with LR. '

whoops

With all this DLC coming out, I'm glad I decided to forgo purchasing this game and wait for the inevitable "Game of the Year" or "Platinum Version" or whatever they decide to call it. It'll be cheaper than the game currently is and will include all the DLC, just like the previous Fallout did.

Hopefully by then they'll have worked out all the apparent bugs people speak of.

A "Fallout New Vegas: Game of the Year Edition" would be interesting since I don't think any major GotY prize was given to it!

But yeah, I've beaten New Vegas through a friend's copy, plan to buy only the "final" version of it.

doubtful. Doubly so when you note that Fallout 3, the GOTY version, and FNV all released in Octobers.

@dvdjunkie32 not with all their delays, nobody would want to buy it, they don't update graphics or anything and most people have the other addons, it's not successful enough for a GOYT

Like Bethesda's take on the Fallout franchise or not, you gotta admire their dedication to post launch content. Fallout 3 had incredible DLC support, and it appears NV is following in its footsteps.

I'm always ready for some more Fallout DLC. The game has its glitches, sure... But I've gotten more hours of play time from Fallout: NV then any other game I played this year.

because the first line of this post states "announced a trio of DLC back in May" which I assume is the bone of contention here.

Nobody else is talking about how many DLC releases there have been are they?

So the post is correct. It's the third DLC of the three they announced in MAY 2011.

Please, please please reconsider the game ending as soon as you complete the final quest in the main game. I completed the game without realising this could be the case and couldn't use my character in the newer DLC.

What are you talking about? The game ending is up to you (there are at least 4). No matter which you went for, the game does not continue past the end and it warns you before the end part starts. Just load a save right before that part as it instructs you. And if you don't have one from before the cut-off, um, well, why don't you?

I'm not sure what to say. Right before you go to the final area, the game pops up a big window that says:

"If there's anything you want to do before the final battle, do it now - before you cross the point of no return."

I guess they could've gone out-of-character and just said "Save your game now!" But c'mon.

So, I bought the Quakecon pack and my unfinished game of FNV downloaded and installed the dlc. How do I disable it? The esm files are unchecked under data files on the launcher, but when I load my game, i get two new radio stations and it notifies me that my level cap has been raised twice by 5 levels. I want to finish the game and turn them on individually and not have any of the extras in game.

@Lonkley There's nothing in the DLCs that you have to interact with that would change the way you play the game unless you purposefully interact with them. The level cap is a non-issue as you won't be anywhere near the level cap by the time you finish the game (at least I wasn't, and I did a majority of the side content)
