I hear that! Pythons can't be contained! They gotta get out and flex around the ladies!

...Anyway, Day One purchase here. I'm still trying to figure out how I can transfer my X360 slim's HDD to the GEARS3 console's larger HDD. Did they make a transfer cable for it or is it possible to just backup the HDD similar to PS3?

Ah, cool. :] I was going to call Microsoft about it on my break, but knowing there's at least a transfer cable available at retail helps.

You can transfer almost everything (except protected content) on a USB drive now. Don't pony up for a transfer cable. Just stick a pen drive in there, copy from one HDD, and then back from the drive to the new HDD.

Simple, and free.

Like yeti said, the cheapest way to do it would be transfarring it over using a USB stick. Once all the files are across you can run the licence transfer from the console which will transfer all the licenses from the old console to the new so you can access the stuff offline.

All the info you need. The process takes 1-3 hours depending on how much data you have already. I have played hundreds of games, have a ton of Rock Band dlc, and other dlc, so it took me 2 hours. It is probably advised to do a license transfer after.

Thanks for all the help! :D
Since I don't think my local Gamestop will let me backup/transfer data in the store, I guess I'm stuck with downloading it to an external HDD/flash drive and trading the old console afterward. Or something. I've got 30+ days to figure it out, haha.

I cannot wait for this! If you've only played the Gears' campaigns on your own you aren't really experiencing everything this series offers. The campaigns are meant to be played with a friend. So much fun!

Marcus, Link, Batman, and Drake will be fighting for my attention this fall.

I've never played a Gears campaign solo. Gears 1 and 2 campaigns have offered the best co-op experience in gaming (although Portal 2 was pretty good!).

Probably get some flack for this... but Batman. So when Bruce's Batman dies in the first game, Dick Grayson's Batman takes over in the second and he's all like,
"Yo Dawg, I heard you like batmans. I batmaned your batman. So you can batman while you batman"

I would say that Saint's Row 2 has the best co-op in gaming. The amount of content in that game plus the fact that you can play all of it co-op is simply amazing.

After reading the 3 novels in between Gears 2 and 3, I can tell you that you're going to miss out on some stuff by not reading them. Definitely worth the buy and enhancing the story.

@Schlecht Yeah, most of the characters Joystiq is talking about were introduced or had their relationships fleshed out more in the books. Not sure if that's the greatest idea for a video game where the vast majority of people aren't going to have read the books, but some nice fan service I guess.

I still need to read the newest one, but I agree. The story is really fleshed out in the novels and the woman who wrote those also wrote the story for Gears3.

I think its an indication of poor storytelling in-game if it requires outside reading to have a good story. Video game books, almost without exception, exist to make-up for a lacking story.

@SisypheanLife The books aren't retelling anything that happened in the games, but filling in backstory and "bridging" the events of the games. THere's 3 books just between Gears 2 & Gears 3, and they split their time evenly between "current" events, and filling in past events.

Two things:

I wish to heck that I could use those lambent locusts in multiplayer, so there wouldn't be so many people mindlessly running up to me with a sawed-off shotty constantly. That'd learn 'em good.

Also, there are about a trillion books I'd choose to read before Gears of War backstory books. Sucks that they just assume people will/will want to read video game books (?!) to get the back story. Ah well.

The game is fun but it has a terrible narrative structure.
Why is the Queen human?
How did Baird get so deep into Nexus by himself?
How did they know to call the new Locust variants Lambent?

Seriously its the first time they've ever seen them and they knew exactly what the new Locusts were called and how they were created.

@shadowracer

1) We don't know. There's another game to finish off the trilogy, be patient, it'll probably be answered. I hate people who ask questions in movies when it's not finished, same applies here
2) Are you talking about when you save him in Gears 2? If you are he was captured.
3) There were lambent wretches in Gears 1. That's the name they gave them and I guess when you see more Locust showing looking similar you give them the same name.

@shadowracer First time they've seen them? There were lambents in the first two games, they even went into detail in the second showing the locusts being infected. And I'm sure the books have gone into even greater detail.

Lambent; Glowing, gleaming, or flickering with a soft radiance.

They cal them lambent because they are lambent, its as simple as that.

Also Baird gets captured and carried down to that section of the hollow by the giant cargo locust.

And the question of the locust queen is a question they have purposely left for the final game, its obvious shell play a big part in the story.

I'm so on this game, Day 1.

On a side note, is it just me or do all of Epic games have the same kind of character design principles? Bulk, grit, blood, and more bulk.

I'm a fan so I'm not puttin them down, just something very obvious that I'm hoping may change a little in their next game.
