Considering how awesome the other Nekketsu games were (like the River City sequel set in feudal Japan or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFQmNQl_yaE) I don't think we have too much to worry about. On the other hand, it seems like only the arguably weakest titles see localization so who knows.

@Nick Frost

The Nekketsu brawler is SO good. I used to play that game all the time with a friend of mine. Never figured out the blood type system though, but that was part of the fun of making your dude for us.

Also, River City Ransom DX was incredibly good as well. If they stick to the Nekketsu style and combat, they can't go wrong. I would love another 2D brawler from these guys; I'm sad to say that Scott Pilgrim somehow didn't do it for me even if it basically aped the Nekketsu games directly and exclusively in terms of gameplay.

Maybe they're basing it off of the ZX Spectrum ports instead, which I've heard were actually very good. (Having played neither version, I cannot say for myself... I'll just have to take Stuart Ashen's word for it, I guess.)

Renegade had a semi-sequel. Care to guess what that was?

DOUBLE DRAGON.

:-O

The one game spawned both the River City and Double Dragon franchises.

Please directly translate the Japanese title if it comes here. Hot Blooded Tough Guy sounds great.

Considering Renegade pretty much established the beat-'em-up genre as we know it, I think it gets a pass on being kind of a bad game. The core gameplay from Double Dragon, Final Fight, etc. and the beating up street gangs theme began with Renegade.

Yeah, I'm surprised at the vitriol at Renegade...it was the original. Followed by Double Dragon, it definitely gets a pass, in my book. It was a simple game, but incredibly difficult (in fact, I thought that might have been anguish I heard behind the vitriol). A worse game, in my opinion, is Combatribes, which was a similar arena style fighting game, which I loved at the time, but have realized, I prefer my beat 'em ups to have more flow than just a room and a bunch of baddies.

@laggerific
The funny thing is that the Combatribes was developed by the same company that developed Renegade, Double Dragon, RCR, etc.

Ah Technos... loved your games. They even made (IMO) the best wrestling game, WWF Wrestlefest.

@Redeemer I know, that's why I was so into it when I first played it in the arcade...I love Technos, and am thrilled these guys are still working their magic. That game just didn't flow well to me...kinda like trying to play Lost World after playing Gears of War...the stilted style of the missions/narrative left me cold.
