Buying MW3 day one, but standard edition. For anyone who buys Microsoft points when they go on sale, the $100 price tag of hardended is not worth it just for the map packs. It is worth though if you like the other stuff in it.

For $100, you're basically paying for that Elite membership almost in full so it's not that much of a deal.

Pass.

Except for all the other kinda cool stuff you get. That all costs money as well, even if you don't want it, in which case you could pay the $63 (after tax) and then the $50 or whatever it is for Elite, and STILL be paying more than the Hardened.

But nice math you pulled out there, I guess?

@Mcmax3000 It is a good deal if you play alot of COD. Do to the fact you get all the DLC for free. IW said they are playing on pushing DLC out more frequently with MW3. 20 DLC packs in all.And you get the DLC before everyone else.

@Demon G Sides - Only the book really costs money. The rest of the stuff is digital good that cost next to nothing to produce.

I'm not saying it's not a better deal ($60 plus $50 is clearly more than $100, not even counting the other stuff) than buying the game & elite membership separately, just that I don't really consider it to be that great of a deal at $100.

Except that the elite membership isn't the only bonus content in this package and if I were a Call of Duty fan that was planning on getting Elite anyways this is a REALLY good deal. Activision knows how to make money off this franchise, and I would say this is a good way to do it.

(Disclaimer: I am not a CoD fan and will not be getting this package)

@chic n stu - If you're the type that would buy every single piece of DLC, yes, you're getting a good value but as someone that picks & chooses content based on what you like, you're potentially not.

When I'm saying that I don't consider it a good deal at $100, I'm solely speaking about whether it would be a good deal for me if I was going to be picking it up. There are certainly other people who will find $100 or more in value in this bundle.

@Lerkero - The elite membership isn't the only bonus but it's the main bonus.

In my experience with collector's editions (including a couple of CoD ones), the books never really amount to anything overly interesting, the bonus in game content can't really be anything too extensive (imagine having a map pack that you can only play if you find other people that also bought the hardened edition... pretty useless) & an avatar costume, even one that's really cool, isn't anything terribly exciting.

That's fine.

If there are 3 map packs at $15 each, Hardened addition just paid for them. If there are more then 3 map packs at $15 each then it's a huge savings. Looking at Black Ops and MW2, I have a feeling there will be more then 3.

@Mcmax3000 I'm looking at the sales numbers of the map packs compared to CoD4. All the people that didn't want to make DLC aren't working at Infinity Ward anymore, so you can bet there will be a done this time around.

@HighFiveJesus - It's not that the maps on the disc aren't good enough, it's that with the number of hours that some people play (I got matched up against somebody who's playtime was measured in days instead of hours last time I played Black Ops), they get tired of looking at the same dozen or so maps so they want more variety, which I completely understand.

Well if your planning on playing MW3 and buying the map packs! Then Hardened is the way to go! The DLC will cost 60 bones alone! If you drop the 40 in advance you get the DLC sooner, monthly and you get to keep the DLC even if the elite membership is not renewed!

This is an expansion for MW2 in a shiny box with shiny graphics -- nothing more. The console market is still chock-full of mindless idiots who will buy these up like nothing.

@Aguiluz

It has nothing to do with Elitism -- the console market and the console gamers throw their money at games like this with no discretion at all. MW3 is a rehash of MW2, with the same graphics and some minor changes to justify the sequel. It's like how EA releases a new Madden NFL every year -- there's literally almost NOTHING new about the game.

So call it Elitism or whatever you want to call it -- but eventually people need to realize that this is crap. I'm not just saying all of this because I hate COD or something; I've played a lot of COD -- COD 1/2/3, MW1, COD5, BO. It's just getting old already, they need to stop trying to cash in on the same thing and reinvent it a little bit.

Nope, they are milking it as they know it will sell. When a franchise that yearly breaks world records and makes billions of dollars it would be stupid not to milk it.

I pre-order from Amazon so that I can go ahead and have it ready to ship for me to have it in the mail on release day.

Don't be so dense. People don't normally pre-order because they think it will be in short supply, unless it actually is already pre-determined to be.

If you don't care about the extra junk included, you are better off just finding a deal on a standard version, no doubt someone will be doing a $20 gift card deal, and then just buying a subscription to elite or doing ala carte on the map packs.

@HighFiveJesus Patience is a good thing. I have learned to have patience over the years and it has served me well.

But you know, sometimes I'm really excited about something and it is worth my money, and time, to have it on launch. I am pumped for ME3, so I'll be preordering that sucker. Arkham City I can totally wait on, so I'll get that cheap later. What's it to you if some people find some games are worth more to them to have day 1? It seems a bit odd to keep harping on it.

It isn't. It really isn't worth it.

The big "bargain" is that you're getting $10 off $60 of DLC basically.

Activision tries to mince words, but that is indeed the main idea of this thing.

Mainly you just get the DLC. Which they claim will be 4 map packs @ $15. So if you pay an extra $40 for the elite version you will end up saving $20 on DLC if you are gonna get all of it.
