If we didn't know any better (and we generally don't), we'd think Cabela's has gone soft on us. A new trailer for Cabela's Survival: Shadows of Katmai has all the nasty beasties and ferocious growling that any hunting game should, but it also has a heart -- in the trailer, it appears our hunting hero saves a helpless woman from the dark and cold, um, shadows of Katmai, which is not a fantastical land east of Rivendell. The woman, however, is still pretty helpless, because this is a hunting game for real men, and it takes a certain amount of distressed-damsel-saving to maintain such an illustrious title.

Dammit, the addition of that woman kinda ruins it.
Was really hoping for a single man survival game...

@Captaindrek1 Well, it is one of those games, this is par for the course. Could be worse for them, the women in question could have been portrayed as capable and able to survive on her own; they'd have been in for it then!

They're probably going to lose a few fans, but gain a lot more.

Man, I accidentally read that as "Shadows of Katamari" and got really excited.

I'm surprised they haven't already made a good survival game yet. A co-op survival game would be really awesome.

I'm actually excited for this game (of course, I'll get it this next year when it's $20). If you really f'n like Uncharted, then....

I wasn't that interested until you said that this was a manly game. Now I feel obliged to own it just to prove my manliness

Cabela is setting us up to save the girl eh? I don't see anything wrong with it. Just me and my woman surviving the elements, warming up next to a fire with two cups of piss.
Thanks Bear Grylls! :p

Watch, it'll release the same day as a Halo game. IT ALWAYS DOES.

Thats some real subtle sarcasm in that story there Jess. For the record I grew a full beard and some chest hair after watching that trailer...I mean MORE chest hair! Because I'm a manly man......yeah.

Reminds me of the snowy area in Red Dead when I got blind-sided by
a Cougar for the first time, lost my trusty steed, and had to knife fight the bitch. If the game is anything like that, I'm interested.

you got blindsided by a cougar in Tall Trees? never happened to me. in tal ltrees there was always a grizzly sneaking up behind me. one time a grizzly swiped my horse, knocked me over a hill and then he followed. we both tumbled a bit, but luckily i was able to pull out my trusty buffalo rifle and pop him one in his head. of course i had to skin him. 1 grizzly down, 17 to go.
Red Dead is so awesome.

I ran after a bear and eventually knifed him to death, great gaming memory.
Zombie dlc was very cool, but I wish there were dinosaurs when you crossed into mexico, agree top 5 game of all time :-)

Oh no, that poor woman will be *helpless* without a big, strong CABELA'S man to save her! Look how pitiful and weak she is, rolling over on her side because she's too *hysterical* to look after herself!
...How absurdly blatant.
On a note unrelated to social (in)equality, I have never before played a Cabela's game. Are any of the others like this? I assumed they were about hunting, an in that were a poor-man's FPS - I've no personal knowledge, though. The overall gameplay concept seems pretty cool here, but I've no idea how well they can pull it off.
They should release it at the same time as Halo: CE: Anniversary. I think Mega64 would shit themselves.
