I agree, it should've been $15 or $20 including a map pack for Crysis 2 with Crysis maps (redux versions). That would make more money for the newer game and a reason to play more MP.

I bought this on steam for cheap awhile ago. I could never get into it. It didn't suck you in like cod/mohaa. It wasn't really refined like half life 2. It wasnt a unique world like halo. It didn't have rpg elements like deus ex. It wasn't a fun "shoot everything" serious Sam type game.

It just.....sucked. Not one redeeming quality. I felt the way about far cry.

Such an underwhelming game.

@Timjoy I found it boring, personally. The enemies are never a challenge, the gameplay is just OK, and the level design isn't as good as it was in Farcry.

You obviously didn't play very far into the game. There was a whole alien ship inside of a mountain that you get to explore.

And "unique"? If Crysis' environments aren't unique, then what the hell is CoD and MoHAA, which are based off of real places?

Did I just get trolled?

Perhaps I was just wearing rose-colored glasses coated in dazzling visuals, but I never seemed to take issue with the "shortcomings" of the alien sections of Crysis 1. Or any other part of the game, for that matter. Which makes me sad to hear they omitted the V-TOL level. Still, I think a new replay with a few achievements thrown in (there are achievements, right? right?) will do just nicely.

I just played through Crysis and Crysis Warhead on PC for the first time this summer. I felt I finally had a PC that would do it justice.

I didn't really enjoy the gameplay as much as the graphics. I had to be much more methodical and patient than what I expected. The game basically forced me to play stealth.

i bought this a couple days after it came out on 360 (and i love it) and was pretty surprised at how stealthy the game allows you to be, in a good way. i had never played it before, but often speculated that since they have a nano-suit, it would play pretty much like Halo, but obviously i was wrong. coming back full circle to your comment, i really enjoy the stealth aspect of the game and encourage people to try it out if they haven't.

there's nothing like staying cloaked, aiming in, decloaking, firing a silenced round into a enemy's head and recloaking only to have his buddy look around and have no clue where it came from. bitchin.

Three words: cloak and choke.
That's the way I roll.

Also, am I the only one who misses the original alien designs? Maybe not the naked aliens, but I thought the scouts and hunters were bad-ass.

@esbeekay Its a BITCH to control the friggin VTOL. The aliens move smoothly throughout the level firing at you, and by the time you can turn your slow-ass VTOL around to fire back at one of them, your likely dead.

It wasn't very straight forward with what you had to do, the controls weren't great, the level itself wasn't fun, this is the point where many bugs started appearing (bad bugs), it was totally out of place with the rest of the game, and there were random tornado's (which when combined with a bug that didn't display them -like I was graced with- your VTOL would just kind of randomly crash).

It was't a good level is what I'm trying to say...

All I want to know about this game is this... Is it possible to beat the end boss without having to quick load 14,000 times to get to a point where the boss can actually be hurt by your weapons? That was seriously the worst bug I have ever encountered in a game. NO DAMAGE.... SERIOUSLY?!!?!

I don't remember anything particularly difficult about this level, but that's not saying very much since I found the entire game pretty forgettable as soon as the alien combat started.

I prefer consoles to PC but you're being silly if you think the controller is better for this game.
The PC version is still the best. It still looks better. But this one isn't bad if you have a PC that isn't as good as a modern console.

@Undulation Why is it silly? Like he said he's ignoring the lack of precision for a mouse, and I definitely have to agree with him. Quickly pressing on the shoulder buttons is way more intuitive and natural than slowly cycling through the poorly thought out power wheel.

I played it (at low settings) when it first came out for PC and I remain as underwhelmed as I was then. It just seems like the designers were caught halfway between a real design decision on every single little thing. It feels like it can't tell if it wants to be a stealth game or an action game, and ends up being good as neither.

You ostensibly have super powers thanks to the nanosuit, but it really doesn't make you any more powerful than a regular guy in CoD, it really seems to just be an ultra realistic game that has an explanation for why soldiers are like that in every game. It never feels like you have enough staying power to last in a firefight enough to be fun, but conversely the AI is too good and too realistic, or at least the paths and equipment too limited, to make stealth a really viably fun option. The more I think on it the more I compare it to Rage, a really pretty tech demo devoid of fun and creativity.

@TheDarkWayne

respectfully disagree

I love the stealth in this game, and it seems really overpowered to me, honestly, I'm relying on it constantly... draw a few guys' attention, hide behind a tree, then turn on stealth, maneuver behind them and take them all out while they're shooting at the tree.. that's hugely satisfying.

@MayorMikeHaggar Well when I play stealth, I always like to try to be totally unseen or at least take everybody out without ever being detected. Maybe I was just bad at it, that's certainly possible, but it just seemed like even with sleeping darts and cloaking it was too hard to be stealthy, at least not fun.

@TheDarkWayne I think you're forgetting the fact that people in CoD can take way more punishment than they should. They might as well be wearing nanosuits.

@(Unverified) Yeah that was kinda my point. The way Crysis is so realistic in every other aspect (aside from aliens), the nanosuit just puts it on the level as everything else, while sort of maintaining the realism.

I played the game many times through, with the wheel and without it.

Yeah and you can turn on "suit shortcuts" in the options which helps a lot! Double tap sprint to enter speed, double tap crouch to stealth, double tap backwards to armor up, and there was also one for strength but I forget the shortcut. "V" would bring up the customize menu, so what was the problem? I agree the actual power wheel was frustrating though.

I wondered what was the big deal about CE3 compared to CE2, since there's hardly any graphical leap at all compared to CE1 (Farcry) to CE2. Unless I'm missing something, the DX11 effects in Crysis 2 weren't worth it.

But if CE3 can be so optimized for Crysis to run on 6 year old console hardware, that's impressive in of itself. Now if Crysis could be re-released on CE3 for PCs, even more PC gamers could play it!

"the DX11 effects in Crysis 2 weren't worth it."

The big issue with Crysis 2's DX11 features are that they offer subtle improvements over what the DX9 renderer's capable of; they certainly provide for a more realistic, cinematic image but the increase in visual fidelity isn't going to be massive unless you completely overhaul the game's lighting or art assets.

As for the performance hit when using the Ultra settings, a lot of it's due to how 1) how heavily tessellated objects are, 2) how poorly optimized the tessellation is (everything that can be tessellated is regardless of visibility or distance from the camera), and 3) differences in tessellation performance between GPU vendors; NVIDIA's architecture places much more emphasis than ATI's on geometry , so they get hit half as hard when the feature's used. Techreport's got a decent article about it for those that are interested: http://techreport.com/articles.x/21404

Now I really can't understand why Crytek decided to basically reboot everything with Crysis 2, instead of setting it right after 1 (putting those events into a stupid comic mini-series). You'd think they did it since console gamers wouldn't have played the first game and here we are!

@kilroy214 stealthily, mostly. The game has a way of punishing you unless you're constantly hiding and stealthing, unfortunately. Still, play around with the different suit functions. How you play is ultimately up to you.
