Dante reawakens next year in Devil May Cry HD Collection

Devil May Cry will definitely be re-released next year, as part of a long-rumored HD collection. Capcom has officially unveiled the Devil May Cry HD Collection for Xbox 360 and PS3, consisting of upgraded versions of DMC 1, 2, and Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition. Capcom even went so far as to specify a $39.99 price for the set.

Never played the first one. 2 was eh, and 3 was really good but it still looks great the way it is. Might skip this one, but I understand if fans are excited for it.

As someone who skipped ps2,ps3,and 360 these collections are nice....

I'm getting the metal gear solid one,uncharted , ico/collossus,resistance ,god of war

I mainly game on PC so getting a ps3 and picking up these is a good deal.

I've never played a DMC game either .. I bought DMC 4 when it was cheap and I've been waiting for this collection so I can play those first.

I would gladly welcome an ONIMUSHA Collection over DMC. At least their "bad" title was a weird DREAM FIGHTERS TV-ish fighting game. Plus, it would have Gogandantes... "THE GREATEST OF ALL SWORDSMEN!", haha.

Also, here's hoping the install time isn't a hour(or more)long.

I am not too sure, but I know Sony has released a few successful HD released, the most notable being the God of War collection.

@Mustang Fanboy - Sony started it all with the first Gods of War Collection last year. The collection was released before Sony decided to officially begin a line of Classics HD games. God of War Collection was brought about from feedback in anticipation for God of War III and what type of content fans would like to see in a special edition of that game. From this feedback, Sony released the collection separate from God of War III as a way to introduce new players to the franchise.

After this several developers decided to jump on the bandwagon.

Now my only DMC-related wish is that they'd do a DLC or something for DMC4 that allows you to play Nero levels with Dante (and vice-versa, I guess).

And possibly add Vergil and Trish to all three other games as unlockable characters. But that's just crazy talk.

I'll probably pick this up. Enjoyed the original and it wouldn't hurt to play it again. Probably going to enjoy 3 as well, and might give 2 a quick trial since I've heard nothing but bad things about it.

Still waiting on a Ratchet and Clank HD collection. Make it happen, Insomniac!

Something about the SD screenshots seem off. I mean, it can't be THAT bad, can it? But it's been a long time since I booted up DMC3 on PS3.

Still, the HD screens look great, I'm definitely picking these up, seeing as I haven't owned a copy of the first DMC...ever, despite playing the shit out of it.

When I read the article, I imagined a person named Capcom walking into a graveyard digging up bodies and digging in their pockets.

Man, I hope they do a good job on this collection. Please don't throw the games together, call them HD, and charge 60 bucks.

ok, $39.99. That's a good start.

Man, the hate for DmC is ridiculous. Have you guys actually bothered watching the game trailers? The game looks like a lot of fun, and a new take on Dante (one of my favorite characters in gaming, btw) doesn't hurt.

Pretty harsh generalization there, but I don't think the angst is entirely among "DMC fanboys". Rather, the "irk" of a radical change to an established character. Add in the fact that canonically, they never really resolved the storyline of the original series but have hopped to a prequel of sorts; is a bit George Lucas-style confusing.

@TheChezDispenser I was positive about the game up until I read that Dante wasn't even half-human/half-demon anymore, but is now half-angel/half-demon.

All those replies and one person bothered to say why they don't like his new look, which is a matter of taste. Personally the skinny, gaunt look is a nice change and makes the half-demon thing more believable, I feel--he looks two steps away from being the Grim Reaper.

The Kratos example doesn't work because this is still quintessentially Dante--lithe dude with a sword, vs. Kratos as a hippie? Then you have a juxtaposition that doesn't work.

Another cynically minimalist 'HD'ifying update from Capcom. You kind of have to admire how little effort they put into stuff like this. They just don't care! Up-res and boot it out the door!

because dmc1 feels so dated and retired, what i hate of this "collection" its that they didnt include dmc4
