Battlefield 3 has surpassed 'a couple million' pre-orders, far outpacing Battlefield: Bad Company 2, according to EA. Gamasutra noted the stat from a recent appearance by EA Project Manager Kevin O'Leary on FOX Business (clip may take several minutes to load).
The official Battlefield Blog also posted an infographic, which states 8.1 million players participated in the controversial Battlefield 3 beta. Click on the gallery below to check it out or grab the mega-sized version from EA.

You seriously think Steam wouldn't want BF3 on their list of games? You do know that EA conveniently opened Origin right after they went against Steams TOS, forcing Steam to remove their games.
Long story short, EA want's Origin to compete with Steam so they made it so their top selling games were no longer on Steam.
Get a clue.

@Slomoshun either way you still had to log into your EA account to play battlefield online....some games like mass effect wouldn't allow panic in the sky dlc since the steam version wasn't up to date.

IIRC the BETA test wasn't the client side. It was to test the servers and laoding. While they did crap out a few times, I never had issues finding a server,

It won't be that amazing they were most likely laying in an undermap glitch. I was hit by a few of them.

Is controversial the right word for the beta? It just doesn't sound right to me...now, if the soldiers all wore bullet vests made of live babies, THAT would be controversial.

if you consider how short each of operation metro's 3 or 4 different areas were. it is pretty impressive. Though if this was done on Caspian, which i haven't seen and it may be much more open, it may not be as impressive.

@JRock3x8 first, that chart is just for america (which between ps3,360, and pc is showing 1.67 mil already. 2nd, it does not show digital preorders and from many recent articles digital has outpaced hard copies for pc so you can easily double the 146k for pc.

Oh Really?? VGChartz?
Seeing that Battlefield on PC has always outsold their console counterparts (even the console-centric Battlefield sold better on PC) and VGChartz doesn't count PC sales/pre-order, I'll believe EA.
I'm assume a couple of million means around 2.5 - 4 Million.

I don't know but I'll bet people will be mad once they get their hands on MW3.
They are pumping that game with a small development time period (10 - 13) months, many development studios working on the game, they don't have a public beta at all, they haven't shown much game play trailers either.
I'm expecting a huge quality flop filled with tons of bugs at launch. They are more then welcomed to prove me wrong though.

Actually very very little if any.
The whole argument was BF was starting to play more like COD.
And that outraged alot of people. So how would going to COD help in any way, theyre most likely just keep on playing previous games in the series.
If your on about bugs, I dont see that being as big of an issue, The most annoying bugs are easily fixed [Terrain] (And probably have been)
I personally am worried over how little focus has been given over to Conquest and how every map detail mentions Rush.

we all know that here because we read a gaming blog. the average FPS player doesn't know the difference between a beta and a demo. They can call this a beta all they want but for some 7 million + people this was a demo.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised to see MW3 riddled with ridiculous bugs. Having upheaval in an established development studio is never good for the finished product.

Anyone that cancelled their pre-order because of a beta is a complete moron and thus proves they never played a beta before.
Beta's are meant for testing. And this beta was a server test and nothing more.
So if you cancelled your pre-order you're just an idiot..and if you cancelled your pre-order and pre-ordered MW3 instead you're...well probably the biggest fool on the planet.

i wonder how many people would do the same thing for mw3 if they had the balls to come out with a beta.
you cant judge a game by its beta if you could then every game that has ever come out would suck.

@301Murder The problem is that there won't be a demo for BF3.
There wasn't a demo for Bad Company and there wasn't a demo for Bad Company 2. For me and many others, the beta *was* the demo for BF3 since it will be our only opportunity to play this game for free.
