It's EA servers, who didn't see this coming.

However, it's not right that companies ship their games with online like this, especially since this game is a MP focused game.

Look at other games, even Gears 3's MP shipped really well, which is surprising considering how the last games of the series has been.

I'm still loving the game when it works I must say, I really do love BF3.

Seriously. So much for "dedicated servers."

The worse thing is that when you can't connect to EA Online, it won't even let you play co-op with your friend. Like WTF. I finished the campaign and I just want to play something BF3. Sigh...

I've played some in the morning and afternoon but mostly at night on my PS3.

I'll be getting MW3 as well but this is one awesome game.

I think it's more of a case of EA going..

"HAHA! WE GOT YOUR MONEY AGAIN."

EA is completely capable of making sure these issues don't happen. They just don't care because they shipped 10 million copies and that'll all that's important.

Making a better game the CoD, Dice cares about. Actually beating CoD, Dice cares about. EA really doesn't.

@INTRO Nothing but problems - and then once I got into a game I was severely disappointed. Traded in on Saturday, EA Online ScrewOurCustomers ensured it wasn't worth much. I can't believe anyone would bother to finish the SP 'campaign', and the MP did nothing for me. Just sorry I bought into the hype.

I've had too many problems to name, from some video flickering to getting kicked from servers randomly to crazy amounts of lag. It's stupid they didn't get most of this fixed when the main aspect of battlefield is It's multiplayer.

Its been rough with intermittent can not connect to ea or make sure your internet speeds meet our requirements I've had the singleplayer campaign intro video glitch out and repeat itself 4 times before finally starting. I love battlefield don't get me wrong but stop telling people your testing the servers with these batas and than the game comes out and breaks right away. Not only is it a slap in the face to those of us thatpreordered [and went to midnight release] but when your going against the giant that is mw3 don't diss a game up and down for months and than botch what should be a grand launch that brings in fans both new and old.

Go get 'em Ben!

I have been playing BF since 1942 (o.O) and I'm quite disappointed at the lag after each recent launch.

Like, can't you base the server load on the number of pre-orders?

They couldn't make money if they made servers to accomodate the launch crowd though. You'll probably see 50% or greater dropoff within a week, and in a couple month's time ~10% of those initial week numbers (still a lot of people will be playing, just not All At The Same Time) actually regularly playing the game.

Understandable? Definitely. Forgivable? Hell no.

Certainly, but what EA can't do is build a server infrastructure that effectively scales to such a load.

EA wants all of the financial and competitive advantages that come from controlling their own online servers and their own digital distribution platform. But they are not willing to invest the money necessary to support best-in-class dedicated servers (like Gears of War 3) or a best-in-class digital distribution service (like Steam).

That's no longer a valid excuse. There are a ton of vendors like Amazon EC2 that would allow EA to lease virtual servers for a week, at very reasonable rates.

Rates for cloud servers at amazon and other places are far from reasonable compared to hosting your own servers. This happens to be the industry I work in so I'm intimately familiar with the pricing models.

This, this, a thousand times this. As much as I love Battlefield, the issues that have plagued this launch are deplorable. They could have easily estimated for half the pre-order base to be online at once, and built a server farm to accomodate that. Then, if they needed to add more server power for just peak hours and whatnot, it's remarkably easy to lease that power from EC2. I had really hoped that, since even Gears of War 3's MP launch was so smooth, that BF3 would break the cycle. Shame on me.

This is why I always play the single player campaign first with the BF titles on 360. Even though it sucks it gives DICE/EA time to fix the servers. Every major EA title is like this (NHL, Madden, BFBC, etc.) at launch.

Everyone has been crapping on the campaign but I have had a fantastic time playing through it so far. I know its derivative and cliche but I still enjoy it very much. I agree with you though, with all the issues Battlefield games have on 360 I just turn on the single player and wait for them to figure it out ( I still think its a joke though that they can't avoid these server issues).

"...systems under load will reveal new opportunities for optimization and improvement."

What an awesome, awesome way of changing "our shit is broken" into something that sounds downright good.

Don't even get me started on the term "sub-optimal experience".

I'd eat my left arm if anyone at EA told it like it is.

I've got a pretty nice graphics card (Radeon HD 5870) on a Core i7 system, got the latest AMD 11.10 beta drivers, and the game is unplayable in multiplayer because of massive graphic glitches.

Is anybody else experiencing this?

I have these issues on any graphic setting from low to ultra. It looks like webbing is draped over the entire world, a massive mess graphically.

My system laughs at every game I've played so far, and this one is unplayable. WTF?

Not having that problem, it has been running smooth since updating to the latest drivers and installing the newest game profiles. But I also didn't have any of that webbing you speak of before updating. Running a i7 and 5850 so it should be similar.

I've got a HIS 5870 Radeon with an i7, and had all kinds of graphical glitches in single player. Turned the card back down to stock settings and did a fresh install of the drivers which cleared it up, might help? Never had those issues in multiplayer but still get booted at the map change/over for some reason. :/

I think you may be right, and also, EA / DICE might be patching some things that are server-side related too.

I am running 11.9 right now after uninstalling, reinstalling, and putting on default settings, and it's clean now.
