Rainbow 6: Patriots revealed by next month's Game Informer cover
30
Both the reports of an early concept video leaked this past June and the web domain acquisitions which pointed at Ubisoft's next installment in the Rainbow Six franchise have proven authentic: Game Informer just announced its December issue will focus on Rainbow 6: Patriots. The title, which is tentatively scheduled to launch on 360, PS3 and PC in 2013, prominently features the compelling (and presumably controversial) moral dilemmas seen in the video from earlier this year.
Creative director David Sears told Game Informer that in addition to that new "narrative direction," the game will feature "all the team play, tactics, and realism that fans of the series love." You can watch an expanded version of that video from June on Game Informer -- just be forewarned, it's kind of upsetting. Terrorists are mean, you guys.

Does anybody else miss all of the pre-mission planning found in older Rainbow Six games? I absolutely loved my Rainbow Six on N64. Oh well, I'm just one of the cranky, disillusioned old farts now I guess, Hopefully the game is great.

@Brian333 If you haven't already tried it, you really need to get a copy of Frozen Synapse.

In old Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon games, pre-selecting what each of your guys was going to do and then selecting to have them go out into action and play out your plan was the main reason I played video games.
Now, I too am a disillusioned old fart.

Not really. I started digging Rainbow Six after "3" was released for Xbox and cut the pre-mission planning crap from past titles while still maintaining some of the most interesting aspects of a tactical shooter (team commands, urgent decisions). That's the reason I play FIFA and not Football Manager, I guess.

2013? I might as well get the NextBox or PS4 version!

@Mr Hett
Most likely will be. A WiiU version is a definite, and depending on when the game releases, Nextbox and PS4 versions are as well, as word on the street is placing the launch of both consoles by fall 2013 at the latest.

Awesome! I Loved Rainbow Six: Vegas. The customization in that was pretty great, so was the multiplayer. But like the guy above me said, 2013 feels like it's gonna be near the end of this cycle, so maybe it'll just be one of those last breadth games

Rainbow 6 Patriots has "new narrative direction"
^Cheesy Cinematic Movie with Terrorist Taking Control of New York inbound. It is up to you to stop them. Rainbow Go!
Hopefully the pre-E3 rumors that the series is going back to its roots are true. I miss the good days of RB, Rouge Spear, and Raven Shield. Tactical hardcore planning combat.
Please Ubisoft...Vegas 1 was good game but with too much Rainbox Six elements removed. Please don't turn this series into what you did with Splinter Cell or Ghost Recon.
Please!! Go back to its roots.

You already butchered two of my favorite Ubibabies. Don't kill off the final third.

That's one way to look at the narrative. But then there is always the hope for Ubisoft Montreal to take their promise seriously, and deliver something much better than normal by the time R6P surfaces in 2013:

I dunno, I thought the series peaked with Rainbow 3. 4 and 5 were unplayable garbage, and this sounds like just more of the same.

@SteveMcQuark Patriot could be referencing multiple things. It could be some terrorist plot or some WMD or something. We don't know much about the game or it's story yet so it's a little early to complain.
