The more I see, the further this game moves from my hard-facepalm first impression and closer it comes to being a game I'd really like to play.

@Mike Kelehan

Were people ever really upset about the game itself? Everything I've seen so far has looked great from the very start. The only outcry I remember was from the Dante redesign (which is still a little weird honestly), but besides that, I think the game overall looks pretty good. Looking back, The Dark Knight had an odd looking bat suit and he sounded a little dumb, but that didn't stop the overall movie from being amazing, imo.

@Tab To be fair, his guns now shoot purple instead of bullets, and his sword is... I don't know what to call that.

Minor things like that.

@Tab Pretty much just the Dante redesign. I don't think anyone had any problems with the rest of it.

Still no where as creepy as the Marionettes in DMC.

Only enemies in the entire series that actually freaked me out. Well them and the Nobodies.

@libregkd

Forgot to add, its sort of a shame that the creepy atmosphere seemed to have diminished with each entry in the series. Its one of the primary things I loved about 1, not saying 3 or 4 were bad games but they were missing that "creepiness" factor.

I guess DMC was able to get that factor down since it was originally suppose to be a Resident Evil game, I just wish it carried over into later entries.

I completely agree.

I remember when that first marionette came to life after you took that key. The grain look and almost-but-not-quite human aspect of them creeped me the hell out. And then uncertainty continued until you got good enough/powerful enough.

Finally, enemy screens, I want to see more designs, I love huge bestiary libraries even if their moves tend to be the same, I just don't want tog et bored killing the same thing over and over again for hours.

@Eniko It's has a really sweet steampunk tone to it, like some manga I love Blame! and Biomega. Tsutomu Nihei work.

Being as I'm not a fan of the previous games (not because I didn't like them, but because I never had the opportunity to play them), I find this concept art to be very cool looking. And I think this game might bring me into the series.

@agentkuo Enslaved is a sight to behold, but I *personally* didn't get too much into the story, but you just HAVE to play Heavenly Sword. I cried out in pain when they said they would not continue the IP. That story was excellent.

I own Enslaved, and I absolutely hate it. And I'm upset because I was looking forward to it for so long, it just didn't deliver at all. The controls, story, and just overall gameplay was so unpolished, it just didn't work.

I've been meaning to check out Heavenly Sword, though. But if Enslaved is any presentation of what Ninja Theory delivers, it's not something I want to get into.

This game is looking great. I love this concept art, and the Dante model is fresh. I'm not a DMC fan, but I definitely want to play this. I like Ninja Theory's games(Heavenly Sword is good, but Enslaved is amazing), so they can't really do any wrong to me at this point.

Not only that, but there are some legitimate concerns about the game, such being locked at 30 FPS, which for an action game such as this, I think is less than ideal.

@The Blank Mage Returns
You manage to sound like the real Black Mage from 8-bit Theater (despite you are the "Blank" Mage and most likely don't have a clue what I'm talking about). Kudos anyway.

I'd still would rather have DMC 5, but despite being the Tameem Antoniades' little ego trip, I think this game might actually have something to it.

Not really feeling the Monet thing either. Van Gogh maybe? I dunno. Even though he's still alive (and not well known), I would think Clint Carney is a good reference for these pieces of concept art.

For some reason, the ENEMY design for DMC reminds me of the NPC design for Baroque.

Am I too expect Ol' Long-Neck to make an appearance?

It's nice to see Takayuki Takeya and Nirasawa's sculpture work is inspiring game art. Check out their stuff from Fewture Models and I think you can see some of the inspiration in this.

For me, personally, my initial impression was disappointment because of Dante's redesign AND the implication that this is practically a total reboot of the series. After DMC 2 and DMC 4, perhaps a reboot was in order, but this is kind of looking like a total reimagining of sorts.

Of course, I don't know how the story is actually going to pan out and I could be totally wrong about the whole "reimagining" thing but that was my initial impression. It's changed a bit since then, but while my current stance isn't necessarily worse than my initial, I wouldn't say it's that much better: I don't really keep this game on my radar like I did with DMC 3 and DMC 4.

Regardless of your stance on the redesign, I feel that Capcom handled the whole thing poorly.

This game is looking Great Great Great.... They really should have made it a brand new IP, but I can see how NT would be hesitant to, after the performance of Enslaved. Still, it would be nice if it didn't carry all the DMC baggage.

I just like to think of this as the video game version of some Paul Pope graphic novel I haven't read yet. lol

Monet was an impressionist painter, he wasn't surrealist or anything, he also never painted anything nightmarish at all, there were never any secret crazy sketchbook either. Maybe you mean this guy Hieronymus Bosch?
