While playing Battlefield 3, have you ever been killed by what appears to be a magical floating light, perhaps some omnipotent deity? Chances are you were actually gunned down by someone using a very powerful flashlight attachment, known simply as the "tactical light." We knew DICE was planning to reduce the light's effectiveness, but now DICE core gameplay designer Alan Kertz has tweeted some screens to illustrate the changes, which you can see above.
Speaking on Don't Revive Me Bro podcast (9:25), Kertz explained that the change is the result of "direct community feedback." It seems that many players find the godlight to be "negatively affecting their gameplay experience" and, thus far, the response to the images has been "overwhelmingly positive." We'll have to take him at his word because, frankly, our retinas are still adjusting.

How about flashlights just don't work in daylight?

yes, if you insert it the proper way.

My brother has one of those tatical lights. We live in Texas. In open day light he pointed it at me and flashed me. I couldn't see anything but the light. I turned around and everything was oddly brighter. Those lights can and do blind in daylight. They are amazing.

@The Cole Train I agree. It makes sense you would be blinded in dark and low lit areas. Tactical lights really are bright enough to do that to a person, but standing out in direct sunlight shouldn't affect you as much as they currently do in the game.

Very happy about this. I understand in a dark room, but in broad daylight? Its a little TOO bright.

Those things blind like that in broad daylight. I've had one used on me before in broad daylight because I called BS it could.

@The Aquacharger You're right, but people whine when a game doesn't play the way they want. I have a surefire, it certainly can blind you effectively, even in broad daylight, even from a distance. Too bad DICE is caving. So what's next, fanboys? You want them to put in a throwing knife, maybe?

definitely and improvement but that is still a bright light for outside during the day

Well it looks like I have no use for the Tact Light anymore, back to the Reddot
This reminds me of the Dual Model 1887s in MW2 before they got nerfed. Godlike at first, everyone used them, then after the nerf they became rare.

Ugh, those stupid shotguns are what made me quit MW2 in the first place. By the time they'd balanced them, I'd already sold the disc.

This is a good nerf. Flashlight is inexplicably good. Although I wouldn't complain if it was better in night missions than during the day.
Now I wonder if the IR sight will get a nerf. Ever since I unlocked that for my assault rifle, I've felt like a god. There's no reason I'd ever use another scope when IR is available, and that's probably a bad thing from a game balance perspective.

I think what sight you look through is more of a preference and wouldn't affect game balance, considering it's not affecting other players.
I always do better with the Holo sight.

I thought it was fine, but in the daylight there should barely be a light shining out of it

They missed the whole rage about the flashlight - the fact that it blinds your teammates as much as your enemies. Other than that its an okay attachment, considering what you have to give up for it.

@MEGATOOL - Judging an entire game based on one attachment in it. Good job living up to your name.

I was wondering how it can blind you on the daylight maps my HID Headlights don't do it in daylight lol

Finally. The light was overwhelming. It was extremely effective at long ranges. Its was ridiculous that it broad daylight it could blind you from quite a distance away.
Other than that, the game has been working quite well.

I think its funny that people complain about the flashlight working in the day light. "why does it even work in the daylight? That's not realistic." I'll tell you why, because its a freakin' video game.
I dont hear people saying shit about dudes jumping off a super high cliff, falling right through some helicopters blades then entering the damn thing and flying off. Why doesnt anyone complain about shit like that? Its not realistic after all.
I dont even care about the flashlight. Ive never been killed by anyone using it. If its flashing at me I just unload right towards it and I always end up killing the dude.

Ironically, I get killed more by my teammates who are using a flashlight then by the enemy. They blind me by sneaking up behind the enemy and I can't see the guy shooting at me.
Whereas if the enemy as a flashlight, I just shoot roughly above the blinding white center and half the time, I kill em dead.
Glad it's getting nerfed though.

Does this game even need this or the laser sight?
Posted: Nov 14th 2011 6:02PM pitseleh0 said
I think they should reduce it, but I think they reduced it too much. The whole point of it is that it blinds your enemy so you can shoot them and they cant dial in on where you are exactly.
The biggest problem I face is when my own team uses it. When I see light, that's all I see, so I just start shooting like a crazy madman. Many times I end up shooting my team and they look at me like, why the heck are you shooting me?

Great to hear, I can't stand being blinded by that thing in broad daylight...and how come if its that intense of a light, does it not light up an entire hallway when someones running down it? (and yes i see ppl running around with it on constantly)

Terrible patch. No one will use this now.
I'm being blinded by light in DAY? UNREALISTIC!!! /herpderp I look into the sun all the time and never get blinded. /herpderp I also regenerate from bullet damage, respawn when I die, and get in-and-out of vehicles in 1 second. /herpderp
If you're the derp gamer that needs an explanation for the tac flashlight, then know this - THERE ARE FLASHLIGHTS THAT CAN START FIRES. Not hard to imagine a tactical light DEVELOPED by the military which can harness the blindess power of the sun (redirecting light, magnifying it)
Fans need to shut up sometimes.
