@Admiral White Didn't the xbox and gamecube come out like 3 days apart? I look forward to reading the top 10 gamecube list in a couple days. Sadly the non exclusive rules will make some games not qualify that should like RE4 and Twin Snakes...

Crimson Sky was my first xbox Live game. Loved the story, loved the visuals, loved the planes and loved the online multiplayer.

They need to bring that game back on to the 360!

@StClair That Crimson Skies was a different game. The one on Xbox was Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge.

It's pretty much a crime that it was omitted from this list, although I'll accept Phantom Dust as a mitigating factor.

Panzer Dragoon Orta (Exclusive Chinese Bobs)

I could have sworn that said "Exclusive Chinese Boobs". I was disappointed.

Also, I know it technically wasn't Xbox exclusive but KOTOR deserves a mention ;).

@aray48 Yes, seriously!

Also no love for Midtown Madness 3, MechAssault, Unreal Championship, Steel Battalion, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge?!

With the exception of Quantum Redshift (which no matter how much I tried, I simply did not like) it's still a fantastic list and brings back a lot of great memories of a more carefree time in the sun. Too bad console exclusives are not included on this list, as the likes of Armed and Dangerous, Escape From Butcher Bay, Deus Ex: Invisible War, Morrowind, Fable, KOTOR, and Jade Empire, should not be missed by anyone.

Thinking about MechAssault and Unreal Championship, I just realized that next year, come 11/15/12, will mark the 10th anniversary of Xbox LIVE.

I loved that game. I had played the Unreal Tournament for years on the PC so I was initially thinking, "WTF is this?". But after playing for a while and getting used to melee weapons being a major component I found myself enjoying the game immensely.

I loved the depth that you could get into with your team mates skills in the first Unreal Championship.

Many a time did I spend a match purposely not winning it so that my AI team mates could get extra kills thus improving their skills.

Last generation was so amazing, IMO. So many budget unique games that brought so many ideas to the table. All three consoles have their tons of unique games.

Enter this generation. Consumers in floods only go out and buy the ultra high budget games or games with ultra high marketing budget, or both. Unique games start to disappear because they can't compete in budget with the huge corporate publishers and rarely anyone buys them.

Developing and releasing games on consoles increases folds upon folds. Smaller development studios go out of business or move onto different platforms (PC, Mobile, Handhelds)

Like many publishers have been saying. The middle is disappearing from the console world. One percent of the games developed take with them ninety-nine percent of the revenue.

Last generation and before the gaming industry was more equal out. =/

That is mostly small developers.

And even, Microsoft and Sony require you to have a publisher in order to release games on that platform.

huh? the last generation is what killed what you are talking about. The whole "one game to rule them all" trend started with games like Halo and GTA. It wasnt really any different than this generation.

Phantom Crash and Steel Battalion are also couple I can think of. Decent and unique bunch of exclusives just like Gamecube and Dreamcast, but PS2 library is bit too large and impressive for them all to handle. Today it's easy to enjoy all of them.

Phantom Dust was AWESOME. I was angry when it failed to make the "backwards compatible" list.

I still have my copy of PDO and the JSRF/Tetris Worlds double disc (which also sadly is not BC).

Breakdown was good until they made you go through half the game a second time. Also that loooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnngggggg climb up the stairway (and then back down after you got whatever objective caused you to climb up in the first place) was tedious. I HATE when developers pad the play time with boring, repetitive uninspired crawl through corridor after corridor after corridor (I'm looking at you Bungie with the Library in Halo...marring an otherwise perfect game)

@MDizzy Phantom Dust and Voodoo Vince are two games long overdue for XBLA additions. Heck, even possibles sequels for that matter. Both games have strong cult followings to this day?

Yukio Futatsugi has expressed interest in making a Phantom Dust sequel for the longest time. Seems like a great opportunity, after Project Draco is released.

Could you imagine the endless possibilities with a Twisted Pixel developed Voodoo Vince (or even Blinx) sequel?

Aye, Phantom Dust was just genius! Joystiq neglected to mention the fact that physics played a part in the game as well with the amount of destructability present in each "arena". I lost count once of how many times my friend killed me by blowing the floor out from under me! Seriously, he enjoyed the fact I got crushed by the rubble moreso than taking me out with a skill...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one the best brawlers ever made. I still have, and play the shit out of that game to this day. The combat sort of reminds me of Batman: Arkham Asylum because of fluid it was. Not only was it fun to play, but the story was awesome as well. It was based on a short story by Christopher Golden, and he's a fantastic writer. Top it all off with having pretty much entire cast from the show in the game and you've got something pretty special. I'm glad it made the list because it was, and still is, such a fantastic game.
