Same. I didn't have a room of my own until my senior year of high school, and even then it had a triangular-shaped restroom in it, so I could barely move around after my bunk beds and computer desk were crammed in there.

This kid's digs are pretty cool, though if I had a choice I'd go for a Starcraft themed room. That would have been sweet.

I'd rate my kids bedroom safer. Lava lamps around kids. Let me think, heat, glass. Why don't we just put orange and blue colored needles, scissors, and knives all over the place. That would round that bedroom out nicely.

@A Sandwich

You know that they still get extremely hot, right? Very easy for a kid to injure himself on it. Aside from the potential minor burns, should it shatter / explode from being left on too long (which is known to happen for Lava Lamps) it could have some long term / permanent scarring...

Considering the way this kid flings himself around, I wouldn't consider it out of the question he might just make it fall on himself somehow either.

@Xoonaka

Lava Lamps do not get to the temperature to burn you unless you are holding the base near the bulb. Even then it's not too hot on a standard Lava Lamp. The operational temperature of a Lava Lamp is not to the point where the glass will burn you. Removing a globe, and placing your fingers on the bulb WOULD burn you, but I would hope your child is at the age where they wouldn't do that.

Lava Lamps do not shatter or bust for being left on too long. The one that was shown on Mythbusters that shattered was from placing it on a stove eye and heating it up to temperatures beyond it's normal operation.

Lava Lamps are left on for 20 hours+ in some stores. Lava Lamps can suffer damage from being left on for too long, but they do not explode simply for being so.

The particular models in this kid's room use lower watt bulbs than normal Lava Lamps use. The base on those are plastic. If the bulb was hot to the point of seriously burning you, it would melt the base. Plastic also doesn't transmit heat as well as metal, which are what normal Lava Lamp bases are made of.

Now, yes, this kid seems a bit active, but I would hope he has been taught or knows better to knock them around.

Haha it's cute. But that room was totally more for Dad than the kid. You can tell he barely knows what Portal is save for jumping through holes.

My thoughts exactly. I was just wondering if that kid had played through both Portal games, because if he did, my feeling of accomplishment for making it through them would be diminished...

Nobody tells you that the best part of being a Dad is being able to buy your kids toys and play with them yourself. Last month I bought "my daughter" the first season of pokemon on DVD. Now we are watching it together.
