Batman: Arkham City PC patched, DX11 fixed for some
30
A new PC patch for Batman: Arkham City corrects debilitating performance issues associated with DirectX 11 -- for the most part. Though some players may now enable advanced graphical effects without penalty, the documentation considers DirectX 11 off-limits for 32-bit versions of Vista and Windows 7 until another patch can be issued.
Gotham's unsavory penitentiary has been in need of correctional facilities since its launch on PC, well after the acclaimed console versions. This latest patch addresses a few more errors, including a progress-halting boss glitch and -- our favorite -- "a crash that occurred when selecting 'Press Start' immediately when available at the Title Screen." There should be some kind of punishment for skipping past that lovely title screen music, but that's a bit harsh.

This could have been released a week ago if Warner Bros didn't use Games for Windows LIVE.
I'm glad the patch is finally out, officially. Taught Microsoft would take forever to release. (Like 2 weeks or more)

Well, i think that the problem is that we didn´t understand the statement of Rockstar, they said perfectly clear that they were taking one extra month to improve the P.C. experience of arkham, it´s just that they didn´t say that the extra month was going to be AFTER all the paying beta-testers around the world ( which used to be called customers looong ago) finished reporting the bugs, after that then they could take the month to fix almost everything........

Oh its you again. The game works perfectly fine in DX9 with Higher Resolution Textures, MSAA, and everything.
The only thing that is screwed up is DX11, which is the developers fault.
Oh, guess what? My PC Copy of Arkham City still runs MUCH better than my PS3 copy. =)
Oh, and I can use Nightwing or Robin in Free-Roam, while you can't. :)

No, he is just trolling. Assassin's Creed Revelations runs fine on PC.
Plus Both Arkham City and Assassin's Creed are fast paced action games. Playing at a fluent 60+ frames per second is very nice and makes the games just feel much better overall.

@(Unverified) Ridiculous.
Yes DX11 suffered from a bug, but DX9 works flawlessly.
I'm getting 90+ FPS at 1440p and it looks 10x better than the console version (larger view distance, much better textures, no screen tearing, much higher resolution, proper And AF AND Physx effects all running at a higher frame rate).
The game has been fully playable since release. And I'm sure they'll sort out those DX11 issues soon.
How's Skyrim on the PS3 by the way? :p

@(Unverified) It's not the games that are designed for consoles, hell I can play these games w/ a 360 controller or PS3 controller if I want. It's when the developers decide to port to PC they half ass it. Instead of actually testing everything they should they may add a few features like DX11 to say it's not a direct port and then the go and change some variables within the code so that it goes from console version -> PC. And in this case apparently ship the game without ever turning on DX11 for internal testing since almost everyone I've talked to has had this problem.
The game is still a blast to play I was playing it with the framerate spikes because they happen mostly after the game had loaded, so zoning, dying and starting the game was when the biggest issues occured. But it looks incredible, I don't have a console version to compare them side by side, but it looks gorgeous when everything is running at top end.

Besides the DX11 issue, what other bugs are you referring to? After I turned that off it worked flawlessly at 60+ fps with everything on high settings.

Curious, why DO you prefer the PS3?
I know a lot of people don't have home theater PC's, I do, so I don't have to choose between couch and desk, but is that it?
It seems that is the one thing most people who have a capable gaming rig say about console gaming.
For me I prefer the PC because of all the tech extras, the better graphics, better performance and the options (mods, controllers), and the convenience. Last thing I want to do when I come home from work is wait for a console to load, look for a DVD, wait for the game to load, this process is 3 seconds long on the PC. Wiggle the mouse and click the game on my Steam list.
So is it just the couch factor?

"faster frame rate and better experience....."
This can also be said to any game is both on consoles and PC. The PC brings forward a better technical experience.

Yea, I know isn't it great?
I can also use mods I create too. Isn't that even more great?
It sure does add more value to the game for me.

Yeah, this is the only thing that bothers me a bit. If you delay the game for a month in order to include all these extra goodies... then make sure those extra goodies run right, or delay the game another week. It's not like the PC has been hurting for games. I've got more than I could possibly have to time to play, I wouldn't mind waiting until say today to get the game that was promised.
At the same time, DX11 is just a bit of graphical goodness, it's not like this game is putting the API through it's paces, just some HBASAO and a little tessellation here and there, which is why I've been enjoying the game without it.

This patch seems to limit max fps to 60 in both Direct X 9 and 11.
Prior to this patch in the built in benchmark, I had max fps of 120 or so with average fps of 100 in Direct X 9. Now max is 60 and average is 59. Which is similar to the DirectX 11 benchmark.

@Kinthalis Good call. The patch strangely flipped my vsync setting.
Now with DirectX9, it's a bit slower than before, but DirectX 11 runs at 28 min, 71 max, and 58 average FPS.
