It appears as though S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise dev GSC Game World may not be giving up, at least not yet, with an ambiguous Twitter message from the company's official feed stating, "We will do our best to continue. However, at this point, nothing is certain."
Last last week when reports of GSC's closure were still fresh, the feed reportedly had a message which read, "No we have not closed GSC or cancelled," but it was said to be deleted soon after, according to Edge. A followup missive from the company notes that the website "will continue, with the forum and tech support." Additionally, the GSC shop will apparently carry on "until the nearest planned items sell out."
While the company may not be entirely closed yet, these messages read like little more than the death rattle of a business on its last legs, sadly. Given the circumstances, it stands to reason that development of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has stopped, though its unclear what will happen to the IP. We wish the best for the approximately 45 employees said to be affected.

@That One Guy becuase there are enough call of duty "type" games out there and enough mainstream RPG's this was the one game i was looking forward to all year. so yea a bunch of people are gonna be "drama queens" because sorry but they dont make a stalker game every year. and the amount of detail they put into the game is amazing, may not be bright and and lush green environments, but thats what set it apart from the other games it was incredibly unforgiving at times but also very rewarding and in my opinion none of the glitches and bugs compare to what a disaster New Vegas was when it released, hell even after all the patches

I agree. I love all 3 STALKER games and played them religiously. I actually liked all 3 better than Fallout 3, but not as much as New Vegas - and I loved Fallout 3.
Btw, if you have never played these games, go buy them now. NOW I said.
Also use the "Complete" mods for each game. They make the graphics even better than most current gen games.
No I'm not kidding. Go check it out: http://www.flickr.com/photos/artistpavel/4084897697/in/set-72157608341111036/lightbox/

A huge shame. The STALKER titles had some gameplay issues (well, for me, because I suck at games) but they are some of the most beautiful PC titles of their time and showed an amazing level of perfectionism.
I really hope someone swoops in and saves the team, because they're too talented to split up.

This gives me a sad... S.T.A.L.K.E.R. wasn't the best of games, but they did create something fairly unique and well loved by the cult fanbase. I was really hoping they could take a second swing at the concept and find ways to better deliver on their original ideas.
