@DoogalUK I agree that I like when developers have post launch support, I think this should happen more often in industry. That said, I dont really want to hear about all the imbalances, bugs, and wants to change level design before a game is release when they straight up say they wont be able to fix it for a while. I know this happens with every game, but when they tell you up front it makes the game sound rushed.

I do think online passes are ridiculous as it's not like more people are playing online (one gamer tied to one game.. even if he's not the original owner). But I'm certainly not going to punish this team who seems to really care about their game simply because of something outside his control. Day one purchase for me.

On every team for every game there's usually someone who cares and is willing to pour their heart into it, but you can't support everyone. If he really wanted to take a stance against online passes he wouldn't be working with a studio for Sony exclusives.

I know that's not really fair to say that to him, I mean there are no jobs out there now, but that doesn't change facts: If you support this it won't go away. That goes for devs and gamers alike.

Sony needs to have a way to tie systems together, they are making gaming far to expensive. You have 2-3 kids, they can share, but then it's an inevitable problem when they want to play different games with different people. Now they all have their own system - Glad that's over.... Oh wait it's not! Now they all have to have the same game, and use who's ever account used the PSN Pass, F**KING nightmare!!!

Thanks Jaffe, thanks Sony, I am glad you can justify sticking it to us for 10 dollars. Yeah I'll buy it, I'll buy it used, with the game pass so you can have your lousy 10 dollars.

And that is why I always say that if you think you need to implement a PSN pass, do it tying the console to it, not an user, you download you PSN pass verification file, that is added to the console, and then the entire family could play online with their own PSN users. Sony must stop advertising the PS3 as a family oriented console if they are tying those PSN passes to the each user

@ShadowSoldier89 Already been there done that, biggest complaint really was failure rate of the machines. I hear it isn't an issue these day's, but it's also to late having the other systems, and 30+ games. Silly to start over this late in the gen, with talk of the new systems around the corner.

Thankfully my kids are getting to that age, where it's all about cell phones, facebook, and girls. Maybe I won't have to worry about it. Even though I am a gamer, and I grew up on consoles mostly, I rather just game on my PC.

@Vic Fontaine Why would you want it to go away? Is Gamestop suddenly a good thing? Just buy your games new and show your support for the developer instead of a company that leeches off of others.

1. This is setting a precident that will only get worse. Soon you'll need to enter codes to access the last missions of a game or finish the story mode. This has already started; see Rage and Arkham City
2. It's just a greedy money grub. Used games have existed as long as I've been into gaming (the SNES era), and used movies/CD's (or cassettes)/comics/ect have existed for even longer. Do you see Ford or Chevrolet bitching about used car sales? What about Gap or Old Navy bitching about Goodwill taking their business? Does Hollywood bitch about lost movie sales from Blockbuster (they sale newish releases used for sometimes as low as $2!). No? Why's the game industry so special? Contrary to what they want you to believe, online servers DO NOT cost that much unless we are talking large MMO's.
3. See Arkham City again. Remember how several new copies contained incorrect, blank, or even no codes at all? It's a pain in the ass that's far too common, and it's compounded by the fact these devs are stupid enough to think we'll jump through hoops to prove we bought the game, or even buy a second copy for the code.
4. Other places sell used games besides Gamestop.
5. This screws over rentals.

There's other reasons too but I doubt you'll even read this, it real. I understand how the industry may feel threatened by Wal-Mart or Best Buy selling used games, but taking it out on the customer's no excuse.

I meant *buy a second copy of the code. Since the cost of the 1st is presumably included in the initial buy. They probably would like us to buy 2 games to get one code though :(

There isn't much gaming news on The Verge because the big gaming section of The Verge with all those big names hasn't started up yet.

No start date yet, but with those names, once it starts, it will likely be HUGE!

I think Joystiq should do fine - I just plan to visit both sites all the time. It's one of those things where if you sell a product and a big company enters the competition - it will just create more users of the product and everyone will do fine.

All I heard was Jaffe say "Me-Me-Me" I can't see Playstation in my home next generation,, way to screw people over! Piracy and used games sales will still "cripple" your funding in the future. The existence of online pass only punishes honest customers.

If you can fund games by selling 10 dollar game passes then 65 dollars is a complete joke.

The $65 price tag includes an online pass with it, genius.

As much as I dislike online passes (they make rentals pretty pointless), with the rare exception of multiple accounts on a console, if you're in a position where you have to buy an online pass, you're not their customer. You either pirated or bought it used, in which case, they're trying to get at least some money out of a player who either didn't pay for the game at all, or effectively bought it from another source that doesn't give them a cut of the profit. I'm sure there's a better way to accomplish that goal, but I can understand the company's sentiment, at least.

You don't like it? Wait for the game to drop in price and buy a new copy. That way you get the lower price and an included online pass. It's that simple; any other course of action will just reinforce to Sony that this is the right course of action to deal with this issue.

I know it does smarty pants, my complaint is multiple consoles in a household, the game has to be played on the account the pass was used on (works similar to PSN+), with kids this is a nightmare. So now the game 75-85 dollars so they can play the game on there own accounts.

For them to play at the same time isn't a problem, I mean it sucks buying 2 copies, but that's what ya have to do. Having to buy 2 copies because Sony doesn't allow sharing is a bit to much,

If kid 1 is playing CoD with his friends, but has TM PSN on his account, kid 2 can't play TM online, because the game is tied to Kid 1's account. 2 systems, 2 different games, 1 big problem.

I don't own a game stop, why am I being punished? Oh wait game stop isn't the problem, hence all the exclusive deals it gets from the gaming industry. Absolutely mind blowing how they reward the problem, and stick it to the people who give them money.

Ya' can't, I know, I've tried. It's like PSN+ in a way. Say you have 2 systems 2 accounts, same 2 accounts on both systems.

One account with PSN+, the other w/out. In order to access the PSN+ content you have to use the PSN+ account, where it is different is, PSN Pass only allows the account with the pass to access the online, where is if a non-PSN+ account will allow you to play games that PSN+ user has, even though it's not a PSN+ account.

Ugh, holy crap that was hard to explain in raw text.

The solution to your heartache about the pass. Lets see if Sony will implement it. The only reason for PSN Passes on 1st party games is the potential loss from piracy should the PS3 be busted wide open again. It was a way to get pirates to at least pay up for a portion of the game if they were on CFW instead of suing people. But the issue with that was it wouldn't let real life friends borrow each other's game. You need a PSN Pass re-auth system to accomplish this.

Day 1 patch means lazy half hassed game development.

If this were 1995 and Twisted Metal 1, the "SixAxis Slam" would be a trick that would be schoolyard lore.

I remember jumping off the roof top in TM1 going 666 mph, I thought it was a 'secret area' or something, it was just a fluke that I happened to be going 666 mph, because I could do it with every vehicle, as long as I could get it over 400ish mph. Nothing special down there, but it was definitely rumor worthy back in the day.

Hey dude, I bet you I can make this car go 1000 mph! No way! Wanna bet?

@TraceurRyuk Part III I think its gonna sell great cause of two factors; One being that its Twisted Metal and the name alone is gonna get a shit loud of nostalgia buys. The second is, its a ps3 exclusive big name title which means Kevin Butler is gonna be selling the shit out of the game, marketing wise on the ps3 commercials and that'll get more people to buy the game. I think the reviews are gonna be bad because the game just doesn't look like its much of an upgrade over the past ten years since Twisted Metal: Black or in almost every aspect and just doesn't seem to have much content for 60 bucks. It honestly looks like it should be a 15-25 dollar PSN game and that's it because it really doesn't look like it can compete at all with any whole sale game anymore.

Man I so want to support this game and David jaffe, but I'm so on the fence with this game. I remember playing a couple of the older TM games ages ago and having some fun with friends, but I'm honestly just not into car-combat games that much and there's already a lot of good games coming out in early 2012. Guess I'll wait for the demo and see how that goes.

I won't even bother to buy a game with an online pass anymore since Sony are dumb enough to region lock the pass in an otherwise region free game. My consoles came to North America with me from Europe, along with my accounts and I stopped playing Xbox games because they region lock them. Now Sony is basically doing the same thing with their Online Scam... I mean Pass, so I guess it's PC all the way now.

I do not recall this feature ever getting the axe. Was that at the end of the video or something? I didn't watch ALL of it, but I did see half of it prior to him talking about online passes and I didn't see anything in there that said no custom soundtracks.

These online passes are kind of silly! It's just a way for them to get more money if you buy the game used and want to play online you have to fork out over $10 to play online.

At least the PSN is free so you don't have to have a special account to play online and as the next generation of gaming is upon us I think that is going to be a big factor!

With the cost of $60 for online play and then to pay another $10 to get the pass to play online to me is just overkill!

I give kudos to Jaffee for talking to us about the game and what he wanted to do with it and explain in more detail! More devs need to be more human to us and be a gamer and talk to us about what the game has as many high profile games get hyped and you get it and then you are like it was not as good as the hype!
