Isn't this common sense and not solely applicable to games? If you're given a task to do while you're also doing something else your concentration is divided.

Anyway, glad to hear this guy and others like him won't have as painful a physiotherapy session.

So cool to see this technology getting practical use. I remember reading an article about an experimental, early version of SnowWorld being used for skin-graft patients ages ago, and it's awesome to see that they followed through on it and that it works.

This is beautiful. Video games are literally reducing one of the most feared obstacles for living beings: pain.

Truly spectacular to hear.

That's the power of interactivity. It really is great how much of an effect video games can have on people. As a Psychology major I would love to go into graduate school and do research like that, I feel like video games have a great capacity medically. Hell they helped me with depression, and im sure they've helped plenty of gamers too

But won't he develop a Pavlovian response to associate snowmen and penguins with having his skin torn from his flesh?????

@nbinney not necessarily. It might actually work the other way, and the snowman becomes conditioned to make him feel less pain, or feel okay

I wish I could have played videogames or otherwise been distracted when getting a root canal with no god-damned anesthesia. :(

Thank you for your service, Mr. Brown. I wish you didn't have to suffer so much and I hope your future is prosperous and as pain free as possible.

Not surprised by this. When I was in the hospital with cancer I once had to get a spinal tap without being put under anesthesia. They rolled a PS2 out on a cart with a TV for me to play while they did the procedure and it made the whole thing a lot more bearable. XD

Happy that another person in pain discovered the effect video games have on dulling pain. I have known for years and am so not surprised that the medical community is just getting the "memo"!

This is fantastic. The benefits of gaming are slowly but surely leaking into the "real world".

If you ever think you're having problems, think of this guy. All of a sudden, not much compares.

Great story, and anything that helps our guys and gals get back home or recover from this kind of trauma is a good thing.
