Apple, Amazon and others are named in Walker Digital patent suit

Apr 13th 2011 1:34AM (TUAW.com)
Whaaaaat..? You mean to say you can make $200 million a year just by being a patent troll?

Oh god what have I been doing with my life?

Apple announces iPad 2 in 2 colors, will feature dual cameras and A5 chip

Mar 2nd 2011 2:34PM (TUAW.com)
Welp... that's a pretty big disappointment. It does make me wish I'd have waited a year before buying mine, but now that I have the first gen iPad, I see no real reason to upgrade to this. The cameras are the only really noteworthy feature.

Touchscreen iMac? Not so fast

Oct 5th 2010 8:11PM (TUAW.com)
I would be stunned if the big revolution in 10.7 isn't the integration of touch screen functionality. I fully expect touchscreen iMacs, Powerbooks and Cinema Displays from Apple within the next 2 years.

TUAW review and giveaway: EasyStand for iPad

Aug 24th 2010 2:18AM (TUAW.com)
Metallic, I guess.

Seriously though, for all you folks who want a good stand for your iPad, it's called an acrylic magazine or book display. You can get them for less that $2 bucks a pop and they're... basically what this company wants to charge you $20 bucks for

How To: Use iPhone 4 data plan with iPad 3G

Jul 9th 2010 3:59PM (TUAW.com)
You know, it's just so wrong that we're now having to pay for internet service multiple times. I guess the giant, greedy telcos have won again.

We should be paying AT&T one fee for data and connect as many devices as we want to it.

Hulu Plus announced for iPhone and iPad

Jun 29th 2010 4:04PM (TUAW.com)
Fuck off, Hulu. I'm not paying $10 bucks a month AND watching your shitty ads. One or the other.

In defense of Dan: Why Lyons has a strong point about the Mac

Jun 10th 2010 4:38PM (TUAW.com)
As someone who does graphic design for a living, I can confidently say that until Apple relents and makes the iPad pressure sensitive and adds a digitizer for accuracy with a stylus, there is NO WAY that actual Macs are going to die any time soon. It's more than just iOS capabilities need to increasingly expand – the fundamental aim of the hardware itself needs to grow too, and beyond the usual better screen+bigger HDD+better processor stuff.
They'd also need to offer bigger iPads. Hell, I wouldn't complain about a 17 inch iPad with a digitizer in it, though.

I do think that eventually, years from now, that touch interfaces will be the norm. But they can't suck and be as unwieldy (physically and UI-wise_ as your standard Tablet PC running some version of Windows and they need to expand significantly beyond the iPad's "casual consumer entertainment device" aim.

Sounds like the tablet Mac many of us were HOPING the iPad would be, actually.

Thoughts on the new iPhone and AT&T

Jun 8th 2010 4:04PM (TUAW.com)
I'm pretty sure I'm going to pass on this. Partly because of AT&T. I don't want to be stuck with them for another 2 years and I can leave freely next year.
...although the most likely replacement option is Verizon and, frankly, they probably aren't ready and able to handle this better. Lack of voice+data makes me strooooongly reconsider wanting to leave AT&T. As for the other cellphone providers, they're a joke and everybody knows it.

If I was happier with the service all around, I'd probably be willing to splurge and upgrade to the newest one. But! The features in the new iPhone, while neat, aren't really as big a leap from 3G to 3GS, if you ask me. It doesn't feel that way at least. The new features don't outweigh my desire to have the option to leave AT&T for somewhere else next year, in other words.

Will we pay more for magazines on the iPad?

Jun 2nd 2010 12:34PM (TUAW.com)
I bought Wired. It's very, very cool but not worth $5 bucks. I'd be willing to pay $2 for something as big as Wired and $1 for something like Time or Newsweek.

Analyst: 40% of AT&T customers may head to Verizon if there's a vPhone

May 26th 2010 11:09AM (TUAW.com)
Is it true that you wouldn't be able to hypothetically use voice and data if the iPhone was on Verizon?

I'd REALLY like to leave AT&T myself... I haven't had many troubles with them since I bought the iPhone, but some years ago in the past... hoo boy, what a nightmare. I don't like this company.

That said, if I couldn't use voice and data at the same time, I'd actually stay with AT&T. That would be like cutting an arm off or something. I find that feature extremely convenient.
