CTA Digital's official US Army game accessories are all they can be

Peripheral company CTA Digital has acquired a rather ... unexpected license: the United States Army. The company has announced a series of official Army-logoed game peripherals, definitively answering the question of what a government-issue PlayStation Move gun controller would look like.

The full slate of armaments includes: three different varieties of PS3 rifle, a "Universal Gaming Backpack," throat mics for PS3/PC and Xbox 360, and a "3D" headset for PS3, Xbox, and PC. They'll all be available "soon" at major retailers, no enlistment required.

CTA strikes again: Deluxe Power Grip controllerizes the 3DS

Joystiq has a long and storied history with CTA Digital's bizarre gaming peripherals. We've covered so many of the company's whacky products, from inflatable go-karts to translucent steering wheels, that the recent announcement of the Deluxe Power Grip for the 3DS isn't exactly what we'd call "weird" (especially in a world where the Game Boat exists).

For $30, the Deluxe Power Grip claims to double 3DS battery life, add a kickstand (just what the 3DS was missing!), and ~~enable charging via USB~~ (okay, that's something the 3DS really was missing). It also, um, makes your 3DS way, way bulkier than before. And not in a good, Perfect Strangers kinda way.

Update: CTA Digital tells us that, while the Deluxe Power Grip itself is charged via USB (thusly enabling charging of the 3DS itself), the Grip does not enable you to directly charge the 3DS via USB. Sorry about that, folks!

CTA's latest creation: A translucent Kinect steering wheel

Stop reading this right now, and put on a hat. Seriously. Grab the nearest bike helmet, fedora or beret, and slap it on your noggin. See, the latest CTA Digital product is going to make your brain explode, and clean-up is going to be way easier if you enclose your domepiece beforehand. Ready? It is a steering wheel peripheral for Kinect, designed for people with a penchant for driving games and, like, zero imagination.

Best of all, the $13 apparatus is totally translucent, meaning it won't obstruct your view of all the virtual driving you'll be doing. And maybe, just maybe, if you're very lucky, its transparentness will make it easier to hide the fact that you just spent $13 on an invisible steering wheel for your make-believe space car from your concerned family and friends.

PlayStation Move Racing Wheel adds mass to your motion

CTA Digital continues its domination of all PlayStation Move accessories with the release of the PlayStation Move Racing Wheel with stand. As you can see above, the wheel comes with a slot across the center to store a Move wand, thus making you feel as if you're using a plastic wheel rather than one, you know, made out of air.

We kid, actually -- the grip can instead hold a DualShock 3 (with SIXAXIS!) controller, so if you want to use it for tilt steering rather than motion control, you can do that as well. The wheel also detaches from the stand if you'd rather just hold it by itself. And we don't know how cheap it is yet, since there's no MSRP listed. CTA pulls the trigger on Move gun attachments

What is a motion controller without nifty attachments that make it look like real life objects? Nothing, that's what -- a point driven home by CTA Digital's latest PlayStation Move accessories. The "Perfect Aim Pistol" gives your Move controller that firearm look and feel, while CTA claims it's also light enough to prevent dreaded light-gun fatigue. Meanwhile, the aptly named "Submachine Gun" offers a heftier military experience, housing both the Move and companion Navigation Controller; and it even features a removable stock and scope. The pistol and submachine gun can be pre-ordered on Amazon for $15 and $30, respectively.

Whether either trumps Sony's own, Earthworm Jim-style gun shell, well, that comes down to personal preference.

CTA Digital's Move accessories range from 'useful' to 'gloves'

Peripheral company CTA Digital announced two new accessories for the PlayStation Move, meant to enhance different aspects of the experience. For those of you who want to pay even more to play The Fight: Lights Out, CTA offers the Ultimate Boxing Gloves -- a set of fingerless gloves into which you can secure the Move controllers. The Wii has the wrist strap, but thanks to CTA, Move has the elusive palm strap.

The other new accessory is actually pretty slick-looking, and even practical: it's a charge cradle designed for one Move controller, one Navigation Controller, and one Dual Shock 3. For the one-Move household, this actually appears to be an ideal charging setup. The company also offers two other configurations for Move charging: one for just the Move and the Navigation Controller, and one for two Moves and two Navigation Controllers.

Play Mario Kart Wii in your very own inflatable kart

CTA Digital has unveiled one of its largest Wii accessories yet: a $40 inflatable kart with an attached steering wheel controller, into which you can insert the Wiimote to play Mario Kart Wii and other racing games.

Our first impulse is to make fun of this unnecessary accessory (an "unnecessory," if you will), but two things give us pause:

CTA is using the item's marketing to publicize Kids are Heroes, an organization that encourages community involvement among kids -- even going so far as to use Ricky Springer, who races real karts to raise money and awareness for Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorder, as a spokesman.
Unlike other plastic Wii accessories, there is no doubt in our minds that if our six-year-old selves had seen an inflatable car you could use as a game controller, we would have freaked out.

Touching is good enough with CTA Digital's new DSi/DSi XL charger

Induction-based charging is always a crowd-pleasing trick (at least among this crowd of one). It feels vaguely magical to lay a device down on top of a mat and watch the little battery light turn on. CTA Digital's new Non Contact Induction Charging Pad will enable DSi and DSi XL owners to enjoy the convenience of setting a thing on top of another thing. By replacing your battery with the special battery included with the kit, you'll be able to charge the device through contact with the charging stand with four lights (not five) to indicate charge level.

The device is available now from Amazon and other retailers. We're personally going to hold off for a while, as we often do with third-party charging products, and make sure there aren't any fire-related issues.

Get a Wii gun shell for only a few times its worth

Want a Zapper-type gun shell for your Wiimote but don't want to overpay for what basically amounts to a handle? Well ... you're basically out of luck. But if you want to overpay somewhat less than the usual too-high price, Amazon.com is offering CTA Digital's Wii Magnum Gun, a Perfect Shot ripoff, for $8.99 as their Deal of the Day.

If you're concerned about the quality of this plastic gun shell versus other plastic gun shells, just remember: seriously, it's a piece of plastic, and probably does just as good a job of being that as any other piece of plastic. Don't think our dismissal of their complexity means we don't recommend a gun shell; anything that gets you playing Ghost Squad is a good thing.
