But it's worth the watch just to see him react to Cortana, and in particular the characters voiced by himself and Andy Richter.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/07/conan-knocks-himself-out-in-halo-4/">Conan knocks himself out in Halo 4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Feb 2013 08:30:00 EST. The news comes one day after teasy tweets from Microsoft's Major Nelson indicated some form of collaboration between Microsoft and everyone's favorite freakishly tall late night host, Conan O'Brien, which sparked rumors of a potential launch date reveal.<br /><br />Microsoft studios corporate VP Phil Spencer offered lofty goals alongside the launch date announce. "With <em>Halo 4</em> leading the charge, we're confident 2012 will be the most successful year in Xbox history," Spencer said. He also pointed out that <em>Halo 4</em> is just the beginning of Microsoft's renewed relationship with the Chief. "We are beginning a new saga with <em>Halo 4</em> and embarking on a journey that will encompass the next decade of Halo games and experiences." Just no more cat helmets, Phil. That's all we ask.<br /><br />Additionally, <em>Halo 4</em> will appear in some form on tonight's episode of "Conan," which Microsoft described as nothing more than a "special segment."<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Red vs Blue created the charming short above to announce <em>Halo 4</em>'s release date. After discussing his beautiful with Tom Arnold and telling a story about some US soldiers playing <em>Call of Duty</em> while at war, he showed off a special "Irish American" version of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/kingdoms-of-amalur-reckoning"><em>Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning</em></a>, featuring a virtual Schilling squaring off against "Gnomon O'Brien." You can watch the short interview and clip below.<br /> <br /> It's cute, even if it's not a good representation of what the game is actually like. Then again, it is a late night talk show, so eliciting a chuckle and getting the name said a few times is probably worth it.</div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/17/curt-schilling-visits-conan-shows-off-kingdoms-of-amalur/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Curt Schilling visits Conan, shows off Kingdoms of Amalur</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/17/curt-schilling-visits-conan-shows-off-kingdoms-of-amalur/">Curt Schilling visits Conan, shows off Kingdoms of Amalur</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Feb 2012 23:59:00 EST. We've been jonesing to see a life-size version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/angry-birds"><em>Angry Birds</em></a> since Neil Patrick Harris teased us with his chicken catapult during the VGAs. Yesterday <a href="http://video.teamcoco.com/video/conan.jsp?oid=245479">on Conan</a>, we got our wish -- not with real-life poultry, mind you, but with bird-shaped balls and really unstable Ikea furniture.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/04/conan-plays-life-sized-angry-birds-with-ikea-furniture/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Conan plays life-sized Angry Birds with Ikea furniture</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/04/conan-plays-life-sized-angry-birds-with-ikea-furniture/">Conan plays life-sized Angry Birds with Ikea furniture</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Mar 2011 15:35:00 EST. During the "Hollywood Creative Masters" session at CES last month, the executive producer of Conan O'Brien's show, Jeff Ross, spoke on last April's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/21/rumor-xbox-live-tv-channel-pitched-to-microsoft/">short-lived rumor</a> of talks to relaunch the show on a proposed Xbox Live channel (before the deal was made to bring <em>Conan</em> to TBS), reports <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/32828/Behind_The_Scenes_Microsofts_Attempt_To_Woo_Conan_OBrien_For_Xbox_Live.php?">Gamasutra</a> contributor Chris Morris (who moderated the CES session). While Ross said it was "interesting to sit and look at it," Microsoft's proposal lacked a clear vision, and he recalled that "a lot of the conversations were, 'Well, it's a show, but it's not a show and there are no breaks, but maybe there are breaks and it's not 60 minutes -- it's this,' and nobody really knew what it was."<br />
<br />
"So it was really going to be a leap of faith to jump in with these guys and figure something out which we didn't know," Ross said, later reiterating that "we had some eventual television offers and we basically shied away from the [Xbox thing]."<br />
<br />
Last November, Reuters <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/29/microsoft-in-talks-to-bring-subscription-tv-networks-to-xbox-li/">reported</a> that Microsoft's plans for an Xbox Live "television channel" had taken a more conventional shape, with the company looking to license existing TV programming to stream though an Xbox Dashboard application, with a potential for interactive elements.<br />
<br />
"I think it's coming and it's big," Ross said of a TV-type feature on Xbox Live, before concluding, "It's just that we weren't in a position at that point to figure out what it was."<br />

A new Conan <em>el b&aacute;rbaro</em> video game is being developed in a collaboration between <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/paradox-interactive/">Paradox</a>, which holds the rights to the Hyborian adventurer, and Digital Development Management (DDM). Basically, it'll be the job of DDM's "game industry services division" to seek out a developer and publisher to get the game on store shelves. A DDM representative wanted to be clear that the game will not necessarily be based on next year's <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0816462/"><em>Conan The Barbarian</em></a> film.<br />
<br />
At best, Conan's recent game career has been shaky from both a fan and fiscal standpoint. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Age-of-Conan-Hyborian-Adventures/"><em>Age of Conan</em> MMO</a> is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/23/age-of-conan-rise-of-the-godslayer-mounts-up-on-may-11/">still around</a>, unlike fond recollection for THQ's action game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/13/games-on-demand-nba-street-homecourt-conan/">from 2007</a>. And yes, a Conan parody actually made a great cameo in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/comic-jumper"><em>Comic Jumper</em></a>, but that wasn't exactly "official."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/16/conan-game-being-conceived-by-paradox-and-ddm/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Conan game being conceived by Paradox and DDM</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/16/conan-game-being-conceived-by-paradox-and-ddm/">Conan game being conceived by Paradox and DDM</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Dec 2010 08:00:00 EST. <em>NBA Street Homecourt</em> and hack-n-slasher <em>Conan</em> are both available now for $20 on Xbox 360's Games on Demand. Yes, you can pick up physical copies of both titles for half that price used at GameStop. Also, <em>Rockstar Table Tennis</em> is now available on GoD in Asia and <em>Project Sylpheed</em> can be purchased off the service in Japan.<br />

Curious about the variety of artistic and thematic comic book styles you'll experience once you get your hot little hands on Twisted Pixel's action-platformer, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/comic-jumper"><em>Comic Jumper</em></a><em>?</em> The game's second overworld was recently revealed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/comic-jumper-nanoc-the-obliviator-screenshots">in screenshots</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/comic-jumper-nanoc-the-obliviator-concept-art/">concept art</a>, and ... well, we sure hope the estate of Robert E. Howard never sees this particular stage, as it clearly parodies his beefy, Cimmerian brainchild. Heck, the comic's named <em>Nanoc: The Obliviator</em> -- flip it around, and you get <em>Conan</em>. (Actually, you get <em>Rotaivilbo Eht: Conan</em>, but ... well, two of those words aren't words.)<br />

There's a good reason why we never went into late-night comedy: We <em>really</em> didn't want to compete against lanky comic genius Conan O' Brien. We thought writing about (and, more often than not, making fun of) video games would be a career path where we'd never have to compete with the gargantuan Irish host -- unfortunately, in a recent episode of Late Night, <a href="http://www.tonightshowwithconanobrien.com/video/clips/video-game-letdown-120409/1182100/">Conan managed to encroach on our territory</a>, making a joke at the expense of the recently released (and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/02/metareview-james-camerons-avatar/">tepidly received</a>) <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/avatar"><em>Avatar: The Game</em></a>.<br />
<br />
Check out the video of Conan's gag after the jump while we consider another career choice -- one that will <em>definitely</em> be devoid of Conan competition. (We're thinking about horse whispering. Seems pretty safe, right?)<br />

With the amount of hype, advertising, positive reviews and media attention <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Grand%20Theft%20Auto%20IV">Grand Theft Auto IV</a></em> has received over the past few months, we wholly expected it to remain on top of the software sales charts until our video game consoles grew sentient and attempted to purge humanity from the planet. Strangely enough, <a href="http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=10725&amp;Itemid=2">a dark horse recently overtook Rockstar's well-received crime drama in many European territories</a> -- a horse mounted by a brawny, rippling Cimmerian.<br />
<br />
Yes, Funcom's decapitation-rich MMORPG <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Age%20of%20Conan%3A%20Hyborian%20Adventures">Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures</a></em> recently outsold <em>GTA IV </em>in a number of European locations, including Germany and Sweden. Since Rockstar's latest opus is still selling like freshly baked hotcakes in North America, we can't help but wonder if <em>GTA</em>'s themes of living the American dream and hooker brutalization got lost in translation as the title crossed the Atlantic -- or whether <em>Age of Conan</em>'s musclebound mascot reminds German gamers of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Hasselhoff">a certain pop culture icon who is quite revered in their country</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/31/age-of-conan-dethrones-gta-iv-in-europe/">Age of Conan dethrones GTA IV in Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 31 May 2008 19:00:00 EST. We chuckled at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/30/daily-show-visits-liberty-city/">the Daily Show's coverage</a> of the game's midnight release, but thoroughly LOLed at <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kgo0VXGixk">Conan O'Brien's previews</a> (embedded after the jump) of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXGSwx29EjI">the toned-down version of </a><em><a href="javascript:void(0);/*1209834262336*/">Grand Theft Auto IV</a> </em>(if only Stephen Bishop's classic "It Might Be You" <em>really were</em> available on Liberty City's airwaves).<br /><br />However, we didn't truly board the ROFLcopter until we saw <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sXmgM8_FGw">the above skit from The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson</a> (the former unitesticled boss on "The Drew Carey Show"). Perhaps it was the visit from "Saturday Night Live" veteran Tim Meadows that made it our fave, or perhaps it was their subtle send-up of the criticism the game has endured due to it's adult content. On that note, if there's anything funnier than <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRfpzjlZCVY">the <em>actual </em>media coverage of Rockstar's mature blockbuster</a>, we've yet to see it.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/03/grand-theft-auto-iv-takes-late-night-comedy-world-by-storm/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Grand Theft Auto IV takes late night comedy world by storm</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/03/grand-theft-auto-iv-takes-late-night-comedy-world-by-storm/">Grand Theft Auto IV takes late night comedy world by storm</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 03 May 2008 15:00:00 EST. With a demo at GDC, and impressions and interviews going up left and right, now would be a good time to discuss the shortcomings of your game right? Of course. The Funcom Product Manager Jorgen Tharaldsen <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/02/18/funcom-still-wants-age-of-conan-on-xbox-360-but-controller-remains-biggest-obstacle">told MTV <em>Multiplayer</em></a> that the game still has no release window for 360 and that the PC version will ship in May. <em>Multiplayer </em>even hints that the console release will not be seen until next year, a sorry state of affairs if the PC version is set to ship in a little over three months. It's easy to see why the team hasn't made much progress considering they haven't even touched what they call their largest obstacle, the controller interface. Tharaldsen even goes so far as to say that PC gamers would be unable to use their 360 controllers in the PC version, because the game was so complicated. But, if MMO's are so hard to use controllers with why do people <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2007/10/16/playing-wow-with-an-xbox-360-controller-via-switchblade/">play WoW with gamepads</a>?<strong><br />

The community manager for Funcom's upcoming MMO, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/09/ces-2008-age-of-conan-converts-at-least-one-player/">Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures</a>, </em>has announced on the game's <a href="http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=55273">official forums</a> that players in Germany would encounter some alterations when it (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/21/age-of-conan-pushed-back-until-may-20/">eventually</a>) releases there. Though "full gore" will be featured, decapitation, dismemberment and "over-the-top" fatalities will be chopped out. The rest of Europe, on the other hand, won't suffer from censorship and will be able to enjoy decapitations to their hearts' content. Gore-loving Germans might want to look into obtaining the game from a neighboring country. <br />

Originally, the community manager also reported that the US version would "not see nipples." It wasn't made clear at the time whether the negative nipple mandate applied only to female mammaries or if the men would also need to wear pasties, but a correction <a href="http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=55373">posted</a> later confirmed that the US would be free to see "breasts with nipples." Phew, crisis averted.<br />

When he wasn't frittering time away planning his grand return to Late Night or <a href="http://www.suntimes.com/entertainment/television/724210,beards010208.article">growing an unsettling beard</a>, the Cone Zone killed time with a game that many of us cuddled up to during the rerun-filled winter months -- <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/RockBand/">Rock Band</a></em>.<br /><br />As seen about a minute into <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVxbAvD1onc">the video</a> (which, funnily enough, probably isn't netting any royalties for any writers), Conan chooses to sing the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" in the style of Edith Bunker. It's great, but we prefer our version of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsETamxkT9E">Faith no More's "Epic"</a>, where we do an alarmingly accurate impression of <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=SkzAJs7NutM">Lamar from Revenge of the Nerds</a>. Speaking to the accurately named <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/17-12-2007-7113.html">VideoGamer.com</a>, <em>Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures </em>Quest Designer Joel Bylos cites a "feeling on the Internet" as evidence <em>WoW</em> is beginning to lose its appeal. "You get that just from online communities, which of course we all pay attention to as well," Bylos said when asked if people might be getting tired of <em>WoW</em>.<br /><br />We're sorry, but a "feeling on the internet" probably isn't the best way of measuring satisfaction in a game with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/15/world-of-warcraft-hits-9-3-million-subscribers/">9.3 million paying subscribers</a> (up from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/07/world-of-warcraft-hits-7-million-subscribers/">7 million</a> roughly a year ago) and a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/20/mr-t-and-william-shatner-in-world-of-warcraft-commercials/">celebrity-packed</a> <a href="http://psp.joystiq.com/2007/12/18/verne-troyer-super-sizes-wow-ad-campaign/">ad campaign</a>. Sure, there will always be <a href="http://geek.pandemonium.de/2006/06/15/10-reasons-why-world-of-warcraft-sucks/">internet trolls</a> and <a href="http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=1778038930&amp;sid=1">forum whiners</a> that threaten to leave over every little problem, but by and large the silent majority seems just as hooked on the game as ever. Much like Democrats who promised to move to Canada if George W. Bush was reelected, these vocal complainers seem good at making threats but bad at following through on them. <a href="http://www.thestar.com/News/article/243555">Then again ...</a><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2007/12/18/game-developer-says-wow-is-wearing-thin/">WoWInsider</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/19/conan-mmo-dev-wow-popularity-in-decline/">Conan MMO dev: WoW popularity in decline</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Dec 2007 17:30:00 EST. We already knew about a certain <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/19/sunday-get-heroes-hd-dvd-free-with-player-purchase/"><em>Heroes</em> HD DVD deal</a>, but we were semi-optimistic about others. Anyway, speaking of <em>Heroes</em>, that offer is 100% valid, starts today and will net you a free <em>Heroes: Season One</em> HD DVD when you purchase the <a href="http://bestbuy.shoplocal.com/bestbuy/Default.aspx?action=detail&amp;storeid=2413084&amp;rapid=0&amp;listingid=-2092570161">Xbox 360 HD DVD player</a> at Best Buy. Other Best Buy offers include a free comic book with the purchase of <em><a href="http://bestbuy.shoplocal.com/bestbuy/Default.aspx?action=detail&amp;storeid=2413084&amp;rapid=0&amp;listingid=-2092570120">Conan</a></em>, a free wraslin' demo (which is available on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/16/wwe-smackdown-vs-raw-2008-demo-slams-xblm/">XBLM</a> too) when you pre-order <em><a href="http://bestbuy.shoplocal.com/bestbuy/Default.aspx?action=detail&amp;storeid=2413084&amp;rapid=0&amp;listingid=-2092570124">Smackdown vs. Raw 2008</a></em>, and a free bonus disc loaded with gamer pictures, trailers and songs when you pre-order <em><a href="http://bestbuy.shoplocal.com/bestbuy/Default.aspx?action=detail&amp;storeid=2413084&amp;rapid=0&amp;listingid=-2092570124">Mass Effect</a></em>. And if you're looking for other deals worth mentioning this week, then sorry, but there really isn't any. Circuit City, Target and everyone else were let downs. But cheer up, because a little birdy told us about next week's Circuit City retail ads and all we're saying is a free guitar stand with <em>Guitar Hero III</em> purchase and a free Homer ball with <em>The Simpsons Game</em> purchase. Shhh, you didn't hear that from us.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/21/sunday-ads-heroes-hd-dvd-and-some-free-stuff/">Sunday ads: Heroes HD DVD and some free stuff</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 21 Oct 2007 16:15:00 EST. Monday, Monday, Monday! At home right on your 360, Microsoft dishes out <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/10/08/demo-the-simpsons-game.aspx">two</a> <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/10/08/demo-conan.aspx">demos</a> -- a double dose of pain that'll rip out your guts, blow your mind, and leave you burned beyond recognition. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=The%20Simpsons%20Game"><em>The Simpsons Game</em></a>, fresh off its appearance on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/PSN">PlayStation Network</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/04/rockstar-others-upset-with-simpsons-game/">getting publishers' panties in a bunch</a>, drops all 442.71 MBs right on your hard drive, with complete disregard to public safety. (Oh, hey, the <a href="http://www.xbox360achievements.org/achievements.php?gameID=299">achievements list</a> still mentions Grand Theft Scratchy?) <br />
<br />
Then its time to get barbaric with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/conan"><em>Conan</em></a>. Rated M for Mature, the ESRB says this game contains "BLOOD AND GORE, INTENSE VIOLENCE, AND NUDITY." You can't take this game home to your mom, because it'd tread all over her face! Demo Monday, Monday, Monday! It's not quite like getting a free game, but it's close. Every day we turn on our beloved 360, hoping to see some shiny new demos winking at us coquettishly. Suckers that we are, we download them all, regardless of whether or not we're likely to enjoy the game. Today is extra special though, because not only do we have <em>two </em>new demos on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xblm">Xbox Live Marketplace</a>, but we have demos for games we've been eager to try. The first is <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.coml/tag/conan"><em>Conan</em>,</a> which gives us license to chop, hack, and bludgeon hapless foes (and who doesn't enjoy that?). The second demo is for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/simpsons"><em>The Simpsons Game</em></a>, which has been looking more appealing all the time. We're hoping that the demo gives us a nice long look at the self-referential humor that has been present in the recent trailers. But hey, whatever happens, they're free, right? Go give 'em a try.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/08/xblm-gets-simpsons-and-conan-demos/">XBLM gets Simpsons and Conan demos</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Oct 2007 09:30:00 EST. No, not that <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=iPmD2h7mG-I">Conan</a>. We're talking about Conan the <em>barbarian</em>. The kind that pulls men apart with his <em>teeth</em>. THQ has <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=84820">announced</a> that a demo for <em>Conan</em> (not to be confused with the MMO <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ageofconan"><em>Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures</em></a>) is scheduled to arrive on XBLM next week. Specifically, the demo should arrive on Monday. To get an idea of what exactly we're in for, you may want to check out Joystiq's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/02/conan-impressions-from-thq-gamers-day/">impressions</a> of the game from earlier this year.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/05/conan-demo-chops-head-off-xblm-next-week/">Conan demo chops head off XBLM next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 05 Oct 2007 12:30:00 EST. <em>Conan</em> the <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6178590.html?action=convert&amp;om_clk=latestnews&amp;tag=latestnews;title;1">action game</a>, not <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/21/joystiq-impressions-age-of-conan-hyborian-adventures/">the MMO</a>, has actually moved up from its '08 release and will be hacking and slashing its way onto consoles Sept. 28. This should most definitely not be confused with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/10/age-of-conans-last-delay-wasnt-so-final/">recently announced</a> delay of the <span style="font-style: italic;">Conan</span> MMO, which continues its state of everlasting development.<br /><br />If you actually have no idea about this <span style="font-style: italic;">God of War</span>-style <span style="font-style: italic;">Conan</span> adventure, you can check out some of our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/02/conan-impressions-from-thq-gamers-day/">previous coverage</a> and we've placed the newest trailer we're aware of after the break. Well, they totally <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=27555">lied</a>. <em>Age of Conan</em> has been delayed again until next March. This time around they aren't silly enough to say it's the "final" time. Funcom CEO Trond Arne Aas said, "We believe that the new release date is in the best interest of the gamers, our company and our owners."<br /><br />Our time with the game has been fine, but a ten minute demo doesn't give enough of an answer to how this game will avoid the MMO trap of making <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/12/over-100-000-gamers-sign-up-for-age-of-conan-beta-test/">players</a> not realize they are "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/21/joystiq-impressions-age-of-conan-hyborian-adventures/">waging a war against the mind-numbing effects of repetition</a>." Obviously the developers think they need more time and publisher Eidos seems to be on board with that idea. Funcom now has until next March to announce another delay.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/10/age-of-conans-last-delay-wasnt-so-final/">Age of Conan's last delay wasn't so 'final'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Aug 2007 09:25:00 EST. In all, we've got <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/harrypotter"><em>Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix</em></a> (girlish squeal!), <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Overlord/">Overlord</a></em> (which we can't download for some reason), and a trailer for <em>Conan</em>. <em>Conan</em>, perhaps, deserves the most attention. Unfortunately, that's not because it's the best of the three (far from it, in fact). Not to be confused with the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/AgeofConan/">Age of Conan</a></em> MMO from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Funcom/">Funcom</a>, <em>Conan</em>, quite frankly, just looks awful. The gameplay looks decent enough, but the graphics lack anything even resembling polish. Seriously, it's like they decided to release a trailer of an alpha build (which may be exactly what it is). The character models themselves look alright, but they seem completely separate from the environment, like they're really in front of a green screen. Joystiq seemed to be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/02/conan-impressions-from-thq-gamers-day/">impressed</a> by the game back in March, so we remain hopeful that the final product will be a solid experience.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/27/loads-of-new-game-trailers-on-xblm/">Loads of new game trailers on XBLM</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Jun 2007 10:30:00 EST. See, we know that Miis are the hotness and no one can resist twisting the system to produce Admiral Ackbar, but we want to see what you have to offer. Who lives in your Mii Plaza? This is your chance to show off all your hard work. Just send pictures of your best Miis to <strong>mii at nintendowiifanboy dot com</strong>, and the best of the best will appear right here in the <a href="http://nintendowiifanboy.com/tag/miispot">Mii Spotlight</a> on Saturdays.<br /><br />But don't just send any old Mii; everyone's seen the title character from <em>V for Vendetta</em>, and we've all seen Peter Griffin and the cast of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/29/make-an-office-mii-to-win-and-episode-on-itunes/"><em>The Office</em></a>. Send us your creative Miis, or even just the Miis you made for yourself and your friends, perhaps along with a picture of the real deal. Of course, this could be a blatant lie I've been subject to. Wouldn't be the first time! Anyway, the game is <em>Conan</em> and it promises blood -- lots of blood. That seems to be exactly what we get. What we <em>don't</em> get, however, is Arnold Schwarzenegger in sexy leather loincloths. Some of you may say that's a good thing. We would not be slow to agree. Check out the <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/conan/screenindex.html?om_act=convert&amp;om_clk=tabs&amp;page=1">other screenshots and think to yourself</a>: "Is a game based on massive bloodshed really going to be all that great?" Cut from the mold that brought us <em>God of War</em>, it's a straight forward action title that thinks not with its brain, but with its gigantic, barbarian-sized testicles.<br /><br />Beyond the violence, <em>Conan</em> looks to sport solid, if not uninspired mechanics. Looking past the usual combo and experience systems, interacting with the environments already looks hugely entertaining with tons of hazards in which to torture enemies with. Any weapons they drop can be picked up, dual-wielded and utilized with their own unique statistics and combos. And if giant swords aren't your style, Conan possesses some mean grappling skills that are straight out of the world of professional wrestling. We'll admit it. We marked out when Conan popped some guys head off with what appeared to be the <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=E5hldUVhAo0">Canadian Destroyer</a>.<br /><br />Scheduled for an early 2008 release, the developers at THQ seem to be in good shape despite the overall clunkiness we witnessed. It also must be pointed out that <em>Conan</em> is a single-player experience without any multiplayer or online modes to speak of. They may not be reinventing the wheel, but we're looking forward to getting some hands-on time with THQ's half-naked hero.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/conan/">Conan</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/conan/#172066"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/03/st_02_20_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/conan/#172065"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/03/ks_01_06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/conan/#172064"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/03/ks_01_08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/conan/#172063"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/03/st_02_19_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/conan/#172062"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/03/ks_01_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/02/conan-impressions-from-thq-gamers-day/">Conan impressions from THQ Gamers' Day</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 02 Mar 2007 08:00:00 EST. 'Old news' has been made new again as THQ today announced a new <em>Conan</em> (the Cimmerian cum Barbarian, not O'Brien) game for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 developed by Nihilistic Software.<br /><br />What we've been told is vague. We're to expect an action-adventure game in early 2008, highlighted by "a story of epic brutality, sheer evil and visceral combat." Challenge her to <em>Wii Tennis</em>, of course!<br /><br />That's what Conan O'Brien decided to do last night when he had Serena Williams on as a guest. We caution the little ones to avoid direct eye contact with O'Brien's scantily-clad body, as the sheer paleness reflects light and can blind you. Look closely and you'll see that the production team made Miis of the host and guest.<br /><br />We won't give away the final score, but it was a close game. Video embedded after the break.<br /><br />[Thanks, Sam]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/02/conan-takes-on-serena-in-wii-tennis/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Conan takes on Serena in Wii Tennis</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/02/conan-takes-on-serena-in-wii-tennis/">Conan takes on Serena in Wii Tennis</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 02 Feb 2007 10:18:00 EST. Bad news first: the PC version has been pushed back to October 30, 2007. And now the good news: Funcom promises this is the "final launch date." Specific details regarding this latest delay were not disclosed.<br /><br /><em>Age of Conan</em> is currently in closed beta. Funcom is expected to announce details about open beta in the near future. An Xbox 360 version will be released sometime following <em>Age of Conan's</em> debut on PC.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/26/age-of-conan-mmo-delayed-for-the-final-time/">Age of Conan MMO delayed for the "final" time</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Jan 2007 10:19:00 EST. The PC version was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/22/age-of-conan-wins-big-at-e3/" target="_blank">lauded</a> by numerous media outlets as the 'Best MMO of E3' this year, certainly fueling the decision to extend the game's reach to Microsoft's console. <em>Age of Conan</em> has not yet been confirmed for cross-platform or Live Anywhere support.<br /><em><br />Age of Conan</em> begins as a single-player adventure, and once complete, morphs into a persistent world, online-multiplayer game; highlighted by activities like city building and PvP siege warfare. Brutal gameplay is defined by a "Real Combat" engine, which relies on active combo-inputs.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/12/age-of-conan-mmo-extended-to-xbox-360/">Age of Conan MMO extended to Xbox 360</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Dec 2006 11:55:00 EST.
