Come to think of it, the stress and constant panicked feeling would probably be similar to how the prostitutes in London felt every nightfall during Jack the Ripper's heyday. Maybe.<br /><br /><em>F.3.A.R.</em> developer Day 1 Studios knows how both of those things feel, to some extent, having begun work on <em>Gotham by Gaslight</em>, a steampunk-inspired adaptation of a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gotham_by_Gaslight">one-shot Batman graphic novel</a>, only to have it canceled shortly after. We <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/13/concept-art-reveals-canned-steampunk-batman-game/">previously got a peek</a> at some concept art for the title, and now Siliconera has uncovered an animation test that it says comes from someone at Day 1.<br /><br />Check out the burly Batman's flowing cloak as he strides around a dark London setting <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2012/02/27/gotham-by-gaslight-video-shows-canceled-elseworlds-batman-game/">right here</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/27/gotham-by-gaslight-featured-beefy-london-batman-gameplay-vid-re/">Gotham by Gaslight featured beefy London Batman, gameplay vid reveals</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Feb 2012 19:00:00 EST. The game is a fast-paced, third-person free-to-play mech combat game. It will feature a new mech IP by the team that created <em>MechAssault</em>.<br /><br />"It feels great to return to the Mech genre and community we've played games with and made games with, for almost two decades. No, what you played back then was Day 1 Studios' <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MechAssault"><em>MechAssault</em></a>, which came bundled with Xbox Live, and it was <em>glorious</em>. Day 1 has concentrated mainly on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/23/fear-3-review/"><em>FEAR</em></a> series for the last few years, but a new trailer <a href="http://www.day1studios.com/news/storm-warning/">teases</a> a return to its mech roots.<br /><br />Quite literally, actually. Dare we hope for a new <em>MechAssault</em>? An HD re-release? It's anyone's guess at this point but, at the very least, the inclusion of robots seems to be a shoo-in. Whatever the project is, it's slated for 2012.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/17/mechassault-dev-day-1-studios-teases-new-mech-game/">MechAssault dev Day 1 Studios teases new mech game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Feb 2012 11:40:00 EST. One hundred employees were fired at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Day-1-Studios/">Day 1 Studios</a> following the loss of a publishing agreement with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/konami">Konami</a>, according to a report at <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/day-1-studios-loses-konami-publishing-deal-6347024?tag=updates%3Beditor%3Ball%3Btitle%3B5">Gamespot</a>. Those 100 workers made up 95 percent of a team that was developing a new installment of Konami's ancient Silent Scope series; a second, much smaller team working on an unrelated secondary project remains unaffected.<br />
<br />
So far there has been no indication of what led to the cancellation of the developer's publishing deal, although the fact that the team was primarily fired instead of disolved and reassigned within the company speaks volumes about the importance of this deal, as well as Day 1's overall financial situation.<br />
<br />
The only way we'll know what actually happened is if either party decides to talk, which hasn't happened yet. Maybe Konami realized that Silent Scope games never worked well outside of the arcade and decided to pull the plug? Maybe Day 1 tried to relaunch the brand as an action-RPG stealth-shmup pixel-art XBLIG title? There's really no way of knowing.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/03/report-layoffs-at-day-1-studios-following-canned-konami-deal/">Report: Layoffs at Day 1 Studios following canned Konami deal</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 03 Dec 2011 11:30:00 EST. Rarely do hardcore gun enthusiasts and A/V nerds have anything in common, but when they do, <strike>they drink Dos Equis</strike> it's a beautiful thing. "The Sounds of Combat," a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fear-3"><em>F.E.A.R. 3</em></a> behind-the-scenes video, shows how the dudes at Day 1 Studios recorded audio from a range of firearms, including a Smith &amp; Wesson 500 Magnum to a .50 caliber Barrett Machine Gun, all with a set of fancy microphones. If Alma didn't scare you enough, maybe the recoil on some of these beasts will.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/17/fear-3-video-shows-off-some-high-powered-sound-recording/">FEAR 3 video shows off some high-powered sound recording</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 17 Jul 2011 17:45:00 EST. It must be extremely difficult to truly scare a person who <em>wants</em> to be scared. Sure, at a mechanical level, fear is an involuntary reaction to the perception of threat -- but it's hard to upgrade fear to deep, inexorable terror without the element of surprise. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fear-3"><em>FEAR 3</em></a>'s capacity for terror has been telegraphed by two predecessors, executive credits for acclaimed horror-makers John Carpenter and Steve Niles ... and also, <em>the game has "fear" in the title</em>. With a combination like that, fear shouldn't just be feared -- it should be expected.<br />
<br />
The most surprising thing about <em>FEAR 3</em>, however, is that those scares never come. For better and for worse, the franchise's latest outing has eschewed the horror classification in favor of a more action-packed, score-centric experience.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fear-3-multiplayer/">FEAR 3 (multiplayer)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fear-3-multiplayer/#4054652"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/fear3multiplayercontractionscommutecultistswarm_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fear-3-multiplayer/#4054653"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/fear3multiplayercontractionscommutefightingcultists_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fear-3-multiplayer/#4054654"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/fear3multiplayercontractionscommuterampbattle_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fear-3-multiplayer/#4054655"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/fear3multiplayerfnrarmacham_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fear-3-multiplayer/#4054656"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/fear3multiplayerfnrscincomingwall04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/23/fear-3-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>FEAR 3 review: Scores, not scares</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/23/fear-3-review/">FEAR 3 review: Scores, not scares</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Jun 2011 13:45:00 EST. There really aren't many challenges you can't conquer in this life with the aid of your brother, you know. Even when those challenges involve psychic supersoldiers, and also, your brother is a really mean ghost -- the less-than-ideal situation featured in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fear-3"><em>FEAR 3</em></a> launch trailer posted below.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/18/dont-face-this-fear-3-launch-trailer-alone/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Don't face this FEAR 3 launch trailer alone</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/18/dont-face-this-fear-3-launch-trailer-alone/">Don't face this FEAR 3 launch trailer alone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 18 Jun 2011 13:30:00 EST. Few people on this Earth know more about spooking the meek like director John Carpenter and comic writer Steve Niles. Check out the video below to see them talk about the scares they contributed to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fear-3">FEAR 3</a> -- don't worry, the video itself isn't too terrifying. Unless you're afraid of mustaches.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/17/fear-3-trailer-gets-in-the-heads-of-john-carpenter-and-steve-nil/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>FEAR 3 trailer gets in the heads of John Carpenter and Steve Niles</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/17/fear-3-trailer-gets-in-the-heads-of-john-carpenter-and-steve-nil/">FEAR 3 trailer gets in the heads of John Carpenter and Steve Niles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Jun 2011 14:00:00 EST. Joining the likes of "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/23/fear-3-trailer-becomes-the-king-of-soul/">Soul King</a>" and the imaginatively titled "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/13/fear-3-multiplayer-trailer/">F***ing Run!</a>" in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fear-3"><em>FEAR 3</em></a>'s array of multiplayer modes is "Soul Survivor," a twist on the last man standing scenario. Players will face an ally turned evil and, if killed, become spectres themselves, tasked with eliminating the living.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/31/fear-3-trailer-has-a-lot-of-soul-survival/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>FEAR 3 trailer has a lot of soul, survival</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/31/fear-3-trailer-has-a-lot-of-soul-survival/">FEAR 3 trailer has a lot of soul, survival</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 31 May 2011 18:00:00 EST. The latest trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fear-3"><em>Fear 3</em></a>, which shows off the game's "Contractions" co-op multiplayer survival mode, makes us more unsettled than the trailers that preceded it. Maybe it's that eerie fog. Maybe it's the omnipresence of Alma. Maybe it's because of all the <em>totally gross pregnancy contractions</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/26/fear-3-contractions-co-op-mode-gives-us-the-mega-creeps/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fear 3 'Contractions' co-op mode gives us the mega-creeps</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/26/fear-3-contractions-co-op-mode-gives-us-the-mega-creeps/">Fear 3 'Contractions' co-op mode gives us the mega-creeps</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 May 2011 21:30:00 EST. Be a soul man in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fear-3">FEAR 3</a></em>'s "soul king" multiplayer mode. As the trailer's Valium-dosed voiceover so intensely describes, the mode is the most competitive in the game. Fear and surprise go hand in hand sometimes, so imagine our <em>fearprise</em> (surprear?) when we heard that <em>FEAR 3's</em> release had been pushed back a month in the UK. Originally <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/23/fear-3-set-to-spook-the-uk-on-may-27/">set to launch</a> on May 27, the game will now debut on June 24 in the UK, Warner Bros. revealed to <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/fear_3_now_out_june_24.html">Videogamer</a>. No exact reason for the latest delay was provided.<br />
<br />
In January, the game was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/12/fear-3-delayed/">pushed</a> from March to May, but no specific date was announced. We contacted Warner Bros. and was told the game is now on pace to ship in the US on June 21.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fear-3"><em>FEAR 3</em></a> revolves around brothers Point Man and Paxton Fettel, sons of <em>FEAR </em>cover girl and downright creep-o, Alma. The third entry in the series features <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/14/fear-3-co-op-trailer-shows-a-slight-imbalance/">a "divergent co-op" experience</a> and a plethora of multiplayer modes, which we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/14/fear-3-multiplayer-preview/">previewed</a> earlier this month.<br />

<em>FEAR 3</em> will feature four multiplayer gametypes, each an isolated mode largely dissimilar to the others. We already got <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/15/fear-3-preview/">a look at</a> the aptly named "F**king Run!" scenario during PAX East, and at a recent preview event I got my hands on the three other modes, as well as a second take of F**king Run.<br />
<br />
What Day 1 Studios has done with the multiplayer component of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fear-3"><em>FEAR 3</em></a> is employ an "everything but the kitchen sink" philosophy. The various modes offer widely varying experiences -- including deathmatch-type competition, co-operative play and scenarios that combine the two. This variety would seem to offer alternatives for players that get bored with any one mode, but with the exception of F**king Run, I didn't find any of the gametypes to be particularly unique or exciting. The alternatives, then, seem to be a bit limited.<br />

"Normal" family values may include stuff like "be polite to your mom" and "care for others," but the siblings in <em>FEAR 3</em> have to deal with things that are a bit more ... sinister.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/30/fear-3-trailer-is-all-about-family-values/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>FEAR 3 trailer is all about family values</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/30/fear-3-trailer-is-all-about-family-values/">FEAR 3 trailer is all about family values</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Mar 2011 18:20:00 EST. If you're a horror game enthusiast living in the United Kingdom, you may want to spend the next couple of months avoiding any circumstances that may frighten you. Warner Bros. just announced that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fear-3"><em>FEAR 3</em></a> is set to launch in your territory on May 27, meaning you've only got a little over nine weeks to store up all of your body's natural terror juices before playing through FEAR 3's titularly appropriate, spooky campaign.<br />
<br />
Us Statesiders are also curious about how long we've got to prepare for all the phantasmagoria -- we've contacted Warner Bros. for an update on the game's North American release date.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/23/fear-3-set-to-spook-the-uk-on-may-27/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>FEAR 3 set to spook the UK on May 27</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/23/fear-3-set-to-spook-the-uk-on-may-27/">FEAR 3 set to spook the UK on May 27</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Mar 2011 11:30:00 EST. It's always a good sign when a representative for a game developer who's leading you through a demo tells you, "No, that's not an in-house nickname -- that's what this game mode is <em>actually</em> called." The gametype in question is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fear-3"><em>FEAR 3</em></a>'s "F***ing Run" (its <em>actual</em> moniker), a four-player cooperative mode that sends players down streets and alleys filled with enemies, whom they must mow down as they race from checkpoint to checkpoint.<br />
<br />
That would sound like a fairly uninspired experience, if it weren't for the gigantic, horrifying innovation Day 1 Studios has thrown in the mix: The Wall of Death. As the players shoot their way through the crowd, a towering black cloud pursues them, gobbling up any and all stragglers who rely on the safety of cover for too long.<br />

Why is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fear-3"><em>FEAR 3</em></a> so damn scary? Well, the obvious answer is "because of all the blood and monsters and stuff," but the latest behind-the-scenes video shows that there's a little more to it than that. Well, a lot more to it than that, actually. Paxton Fettel won't be reserved solely for co-op in <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/fear-3">FEAR 3</a></em>, as a new trailer reveals he will also be playable in the solo campaign. Once a level is beaten with protagonist Point Man, it will then be playable by Fettel, who can use his powers to defeat enemies -- by which we mean <em>make them explode</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/15/paxton-fettel-playable-in-fear-3-single-player-kind-of-a-jerk/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Paxton Fettel playable in FEAR 3 single player, kind of a jerk</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/15/paxton-fettel-playable-in-fear-3-single-player-kind-of-a-jerk/">Paxton Fettel playable in FEAR 3 single player, kind of a jerk</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Feb 2011 01:00:00 EST. Listen, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fear-3"><em>FEAR 3</em></a> protagonist Point Man: we know that you're craving Funyuns more than you've ever craved anything in your life. However, we'd suggest staying away from the Alma-infested supermarket for a while -- based on the screens below, it doesn't look like the safest place to be.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/03/fear-3-screens-take-us-to-the-store-also-to-nightmaretown/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>FEAR 3 screens take us to the store, also to nightmaretown</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/03/fear-3-screens-take-us-to-the-store-also-to-nightmaretown/">FEAR 3 screens take us to the store, also to nightmaretown</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Feb 2011 00:00:00 EST. We foresee one major problem with the co-op mode for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fear-3"><em>F.E.A.R. 3</em></a>, previewed in the video below: One of the characters looks way more fun to play than the other. Who would you like to be: the standard, cover-based first-person shooter guy? Or the telekinetic, intangible ghost-killer?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/14/fear-3-co-op-trailer-shows-a-slight-imbalance/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>FEAR 3 co-op trailer shows a slight imbalance</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/14/fear-3-co-op-trailer-shows-a-slight-imbalance/">FEAR 3 co-op trailer shows a slight imbalance</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Jan 2011 21:00:00 EST. The <em>F.E.A.R. 3</em> "Collector's Edition" release will include a SteelBook case, an in-game gun and a comic or something -- those items aren't important. The <em>real</em> bonus is something more intangible: <em>a lifetime of nightmares</em>. See, the Collector's Edition also includes a pregnant Alma figurine, and <em>of course</em> it glows in the dark.<br />
<br />
The <em>F.E.A.R. 3</em> <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/F3AROfficial">YouTube channel</a> shows the Collector's Edition listed for several European countries. (We've contacted Warner Bros. to find out if it's also headed to North America, though we're not sure we actually want to know.) There's a video of ... the thing after the break. Please, please don't watch it.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/13/fear-3-collectors-edition-includes-pregnant-alma-figure-abject/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>FEAR 3 Collector's Edition includes pregnant Alma figure, abject terror</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/13/fear-3-collectors-edition-includes-pregnant-alma-figure-abject/">FEAR 3 Collector's Edition includes pregnant Alma figure, abject terror</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Jan 2011 11:30:00 EST. Looks like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Fear-3/"><em>F.E.A.R. 3</em></a> needs a few more months of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/17/seen-e3-one-ugly-mother/">gestation</a>. Previously announced for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/29/fear-3-release-date-march-22-2011/">March 22, 2011</a>, Joystiq has confirmed with a Warner Bros. representative that those looking for supernatural pregnancy scares will have to wait until May. So far, <a href="http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp;jsessionid=5163A234D34BF33A5382327A621D3461.bbolsp-app05-10?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&amp;_dynSessConf=-6009603809256944067&amp;id=pcat17071&amp;type=page&amp;st=fear+3&amp;sc=Global&amp;cp=1&amp;nrp=15&amp;sp=&amp;qp=&amp;list=n&amp;iht=y&amp;usc=All+Categories&amp;ks=960">Best Buy</a> is the only major retailer reflecting the change.<br />
<br />
We want to make sure we're prepared for those earth-shattering Alma contractions, but WBIE isn't currently sharing a more specific due date.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/12/fear-3-delayed/">F.E.A.R. 3 delayed until May</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Jan 2011 11:15:00 EST. Maintaining a healthy fraternal relationship is tricky, forcing you to wrestle with subjects like individuality, compromise, and, as illustrated by the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fear-3"><em>FEAR 3</em></a> trailer below, whether you should shoot the enemy soldier your ghost-brother is currently possessing. <em>Tough stuff</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/13/new-fear-3-trailer-is-full-of-brotherly-love/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New FEAR 3 trailer is full of brotherly love</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/13/new-fear-3-trailer-is-full-of-brotherly-love/">New FEAR 3 trailer is full of brotherly love</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Aug 2010 03:00:00 EST. We say this because with this latest trailer, Warner Bros. Interactive seems to have finally divined a winning formula. The E3 trailer above is everything we'd hope for in a trailer: There's ample quantities of dudes getting shot in slow-mo, along with equal amounts of bad boy Paxton Fettel 'sploding chumps <em>with his mind</em>. So it looks like the team at Warner Bros is sticking with the live-action ads for <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/fear-3"><em>F.E.A.R. 3</em></a>. Apparently it's just a <em>thing</em> it's doing, so you'd best get used to it. <em>Anyway</em>, the latest trailer for <em>F.E.A.R.3 </em>is all about telekinetic bad boy, Paxton Fettel. The actual gameplay segments of the trailer show off some of Fettel's abilities, including telepathic control of enemy soldiers. He can also lift soldiers in the air, making them easy targets for <em>F.E.A.R.</em>'s perennial protagonist, Point Man.<br />
<br />
He also glows a really pretty orange. After all, there's no reason to murder hapless goons without a little flair, is there?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/28/video-fear-3s-paxton-fettel-kills-things-with-his-mind/">Video: FEAR 3's Paxton Fettel kills things with his mind</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 28 May 2010 20:00:00 EST. Interactive Entertainment,<br />
<br />
Look, we get what you're trying to do here with this <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fear-3"><em>F.E.A.R. 3</em></a> trailer, but you aren't getting the desired result. The live-action portions don't make the world more believable -- in fact, they do the complete opposite. It just comes off as hokey and low-budget. Did you really watch this before sending it out? Bush league, guys. <br />
<br />
The gameplay portions of the trailer, however, are more our speed. There's slow-mo gunplay, creepy monsters and plenty of that wonderful ragdoll physics we've grown to love. That's the winning formula! Please keep that in mind for next time.<br />
<br />
Sincerely,<br />

<br />
Of all the shouldn't-have-kids candidates, you'd think demon women would be at the top of the list. Hot on the heels of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/24/rumor-f-e-a-r-3-to-be-revealed-by-spanish-magazine-as-f-3-a-r/">rumors of a new title in the first-person franchise</a>, Warner Bros. has <a href="http://www.businesswire.com/portal/site/home/permalink/?ndmViewId=news_view&amp;newsId=20100408005463&amp;newsLang=en">made <em>F.E.A.R. 3</em> official</a>. The shooter is scheduled to release this fall on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Freaky devil child Alma is back once again, along with "Point Man," the protagonist from the original <em>F.E.A.R., </em>and even the villainous Paxton Fettel. While the single-player campaign tasks players with controlling Point Man once again, a new "divergent co-op" mode allows a second player to take control of Fettel. The press release also notes that <em>F.E.A.R. 3</em> will feature "an evolved cover system."<br />
<br />
<em>F.E.A.R. 3</em> is being developed by Day 1 Studios, the developer behind the console ports of the original <em>F.E.A.R.</em> as well as the more recent <em>Fracture</em>. Warner Bros. has also enlisted the help of horror director John Carpenter and writer Steve Niles (<em>30 Days of Night</em>). Niles co-wrote the script for the game, while Carpenter "provided his expertise in crafting the in-game cinematics."<br />
<br />
And yes, it's been confirmed that the game's logo is, in fact, <em>F.3.A.R</em>., officially opening the door for its inevitable sequel: <em>F.E.4.R.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/08/fear-3-announced-john-carpenter-crafting-cinematics/">F.E.A.R. 3 announced, John Carpenter crafting cinematics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Apr 2010 11:51:00 EST. Using the game's terrain deformation system, players can try their hand at creating and destroying the landscape using a variety of weapons. Here's hoping that creating hills, holes, craters and spires is enough to keep things interesting. If you've been anxious to try out <em>Fracture</em>'s much vaunted terrain deformation, give it a go.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/18/fracture-demo-sends-shockwaves-through-xbox-live/">Fracture demo sends shockwaves through Xbox Live</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Sep 2008 09:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/LucasArts/">LucasArts</a> has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/breaking-news-fracture-demo-due-on-sept-18/">announced</a> that an earth-shattering demo of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fracture"><em>Fracture</em></a> is scheduled to crack up the Xbox Live Marketplace on Thursday, September 18. If you need a little help digging the name <em>Fracture</em> from your mind, it's a third person shooter with the central mechanic of land deformation, which the devlopers have cleverly dubbed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/03/fracture-to-literally-change-360-landscape/">Terrain Deformation</a>. Players can build their own cover or, conversely, pull the land out from under the feet of approaching enemies. Land deformation can also be used for other things, such as accessing otherwise unreachable areas (think of it like a dirt elevator).<br /><br />For those who enjoy the demo, <em>Fracture </em>will be hitting retail on October 7 in North America and October 10 in Euorpe.<br /><br />

Hoping to shatter our notions of shooters and the rigid environments they take place in, LucasArts' <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Fracture/">Fracture</a></em> is set to debut in demo form via the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network on Thursday, September 18th. If you recall (and let's face it, you probably don't), <em>Fracture</em>'s biggest back-of-the-box bullet point is "Terrain Deformation," which allows players to reshape the landscape in the midst of frantic combat.<br /><br />The interactive teaser is an opportunity to "create cover, solve puzzles and revolutionize battlefield tactics," says LucasArts, shortly before reminding us that <em>Fracture</em> will dash onto the retail stage and break its metaphorical leg on October 7th in North America, and October 10th in Europe. Let's hope big "L" steps up the marketing campaign <em>just a tad</em> before then.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fracture/">Fracture</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fracture/#232198"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/fracture4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fracture/#232197"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/fracture6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fracture/#232196"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/fracture2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fracture/#232195"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/fracture7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fracture/#232194"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/fracture8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/breaking-news-fracture-demo-due-on-sept-18/">Breaking news: Fracture demo due on Sept. 18</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Sep 2008 13:20:00 EST. Gamers looking out for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fracture/"><em>Fracture</em></a> might take interest in the game's newly redesigned and <a href="http://www.lucasarts.com/games/fracture/">relaunched website</a>.<em> Fracture</em> was announced around this time last year, and it looks like the game is well on its way to release this October 2008 according to the new website. <br /><br />With the new site in place, a release for October, and a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/29/fracture-demo-coming-this-fall/">demo hitting the PSN</a> a month or two before the scheduled release, then it seems we'll be hearing much more on this title in the months to come. It looks like this blogger was wrong when he said, in a previous <em>Fracture </em>post a few days ago, that <em>Fracture</em> news would again be sparse; this is most definitely a good thing that it won't. If you're interested in <em>Fracture</em>, make sure you check out the <a href="http://www.lucasarts.com/games/fracture/">official website</a>. But also, make sure you check out the new trailer after the break.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/30/fancy-new-fracture-site-announces-october-release-date/">Joystiq</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/01/fracture-gets-october-release-new-site-new-trailer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fracture gets October release, new site, new trailer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/01/fracture-gets-october-release-new-site-new-trailer/">Fracture gets October release, new site, new trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 01 Jun 2008 14:00:00 EST. Setting the stage for a war that takes place between a split United States, two factions face-off for dominance over the nation. The evil-doers, known as the Pacificans, have altered DNA to create a stronger, more dominant race while the Atlantic Alliance have put their effort into creating advanced cybernetics to thwart a Pacific attack. It's been ages since we last heard about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fracture/"><em>Fracture</em></a> -- a terra-forming shooter -- so it's quite nice to hear anything on the title really. In fact, you could say the news has been quite<em> fractured</em>, or, if you want to put it in more delicate terms ... <em>fraked</em>. Anyway, enough of the fluff and on to the cold hard news; that is what you're here for, right? <br /><br />Speaking to <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=189890&amp;skip=yes">CVG</a>, LucasArts has communicated that a demo should appear on the PSN sometime in "August or September." The demo includes a tutorial stage and <span class="text_article_body">a level where "you can try out all the land-bending trickery," according to CVG. They of course refer to the terrain deformation system which lets players control the ground, and use it for strategic purposes. Since the demo comes out in a few months, and since we suspect </span>news to be just as infrequent from here on out, expect radio silence until then.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/29/fracture-demo-coming-this-fall/">Fracture demo coming this Fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 May 2008 15:30:00 EST. Having <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/22/yahtzee-travels-to-america-visits-valve/">traipsed</a> through the corridors of Valve's American headquarters, <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/2675-Zero-Punctuation-F-E-A-R-Perseus-Mandate">Zero Punctuation</a>'s <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/yahtzee">Yahtzee</a> is notably unimpressed with the assignment greeting him upon his return. <em>More</em> creepy corridors, this time found in "uninformatively" titled <em>F.E.A.R</em>. expansion, <em>Perseus Mandat</em>e. While he appreciates the infrequent mind-bending sequences (they're rather <em>scares</em>, you see), Yahtzee can't wrap his brain around the developer's constant recycling of environments and combat. As usual, hidden within the rapid-fire rants and elaborately constructed metaphors lies an astute observation -- how is this game supposed to be <em>scary</em> if your character's running around with a bloody bazooka? <br />

The first demo comes from our pals over at Bizarre Creations and is the critically acclaimed <em><a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/10/09/demo-pgr-4.aspx">Project Gotham Racing 4</a>. </em>Weighing in at a rather hefty 1.27GBs, the demo includes three racecars, two bikes and features an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/18/pgr-4-demo-coming-and-features-exclusive-content/">exclusive</a> N&uuml;rburgring Snow Challenge and an exclusive Arcade event. Oh, and the <em>PGR4</em> demo is available to all Xbox Live locales, w00t, w00t!<br />
<br />
<em><a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/10/09/demo-f-e-a-r-files-extraction-point.aspx">F.E.A.R. Files: Extraction Point</a></em> is the other new game demo and clocking in at 585MBs we presume it to be a single player mission-o-fun that<em> F.E.A.R.</em> fans the world around will enjoy. Funny thing is that the demo is only available to US and Canadian Xbox Live members ... so maybe the world around can't enjoy it. Both demos are available for the free on the XBLM right now, so get your download queue on and give 'em a whirl.<br />

This free Bonus Map Pack includes three additional multiplayer maps including the vegetation filled Ecosphere, close quarters battle Hotel and the dark and smelly atmosphere of Sewers. Again, the new multiplayer maps are a free download, so you have nothing to fear but the <em>F.E.A.R.</em> Bonus Map Pack itself (bah dum bah ch!).<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/13/f-e-a-r-the-free-bonus-map-pack/">F.E.A.R. the free Bonus Map Pack</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 Aug 2007 10:00:00 EST.
