A video coming out of Germany's Gamescom convention yesterday may have accidentally revealed a whole mess of unannounced tracks for upcoming rhythm/music title Rock Band 3. During an interview shot by YouTube user GottGamesShow (since taken down), an RB3 rep could be seen scrolling through the entire setlist for the game, apparently revealing tracks from John Lennon's "Imagine" to Devo's "Whip It."

RockBandAide grabbed the whole list before the video went down, which we've dropped for you after the break. And though we've reached out to Harmonix and MTV Games for confirmation, we'd like to point out that, for now, the songs could potentially be future Rock Band Network tracks or simply placeholder. That said, we're hoping they're not -- we're pretty psyched about the two songs we already mentioned, and frankly, it's all about James Brown.

Any White Stripes fan -- nay, any music fan at all -- can only look at this trailer for Disney's Ultimate Band and weep, perhaps while pounding a sharp-edged rock into the side of their skull. It's not the idea of yet another music game that will probably do the same things as all the other music games (including using Rock Band's instruments). It's the absolutely abhorrent quality of the included covers that has us writhing on the floor in pain and shame. That's got us wondering if all the music will be covers, since we know of several other songs and artists on tap for the title (and more who are rumored).

Ultimate Band was initially announced as being the peripheral-free answer to Rock Band and Guitar Hero, but now that rumored versions for the Xbox 360 and PS3 have been announced, word is that there will also be a version with instruments that will retail for $170.

Drag yourself past the break to see the list known artists and songs.
Continue reading Ultimate Band is less Disney, more Disnasty

Ultimate Band is less Disney, more Disnasty originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 16 Jun 2008 11:45:00 EST. Keyboard peripheral be damned! Seminal synth pop superstars Devo are coming to Rock Band, frontman Mark Mothersbaugh tells X-Play, and they've even re-recorded one synth-heavy song to do it. "They wanted 'Through Being Cool' for some reason," he says, "Which is kind of odd because it's all synth solos, so we re-recorded ... all my synth solos, synth leads, as guitar leads."

Mothersbaugh says there are two other songs coming in addition to "Through Being Cool" leading us to believe we'll see them all collected as a three-song track pack. In accordance with the "Devo Obligatory Whip It Mentioning Law of 1980" we'll note here that one of those songs is statistically likely to, in fact, be "Whip It." Check out the video clip after the break and see if you can't catch Mothersbaugh subconsciously mouthing out the names of other two songs ... or perhaps, unknowingly making furtive whip-cracking gestures.
Continue reading Devo songs coming to Rock Band (no, we're not sure about 'Whip It')

Devo songs coming to Rock Band (no, we're not sure about 'Whip It') originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 23 May 2008 16:54:00 EST.
