We've learned today that <em>Doom 3</em> will not be ready at shipping time.<br /><br />"Unfortunately, we've been informed that <em>DOOM 3 BFG Edition</em> will not support the Rift development kit by the time we begin shipping," the Oculus blog notes. "Since DOOM 3 won't be available, we'd like to try and make it up to you."<br /><br />The conciliatory gestures include your choice of either $20 to spend at Steam, $25 at the Oculus store, or to have your Kickstarter pledge refunded. You'll find those options at the <a href="http://www.oculusvr.com/sales/">Oculus Order Manager</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/18/doom-3-bfg-not-shipping-with-oculus-dev-kits/">Doom 3 BFG not shipping with Oculus dev kits</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Mar 2013 13:30:00 EST. The price rockets in at $14.99.<br /><br /><em>The Master Levels</em> and <em>Final Doom</em> weren't included in the recent release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/doom-3-bfg-edition"><em>Doom 3: BFG Edition</em></a>. <em>Master Levels </em>contains 20 independently designed levels for <em>Doom 2</em> (21 if you're counting the secret level). <em>Final Doom</em> offers two standalone <em>Doom 2</em> mods, <em>The Plutonia Experiment</em> and <em>TNT Evolution</em>, and was officially distributed by Doom developer id Software back in 1996.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/20/doom-classic-complete-hits-psn-today-includes-master-levels-and/">Doom Classic Complete hits PSN today, includes Master Levels and Final Doom</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Nov 2012 11:30:00 EST. However, <em>Doom</em> and <em>Doom 2</em> are only $5 apiece separately, so we have no idea how this math is working out for the BFG bundle.<br /><br />Perhaps the premium is for The Lost Missions, or the ability to wield the flashlight and gun <em>simultaneously</em>? Anyway, wait a month and all of this will be $3 during some Steam holiday sale.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/12/doom-3-normal-edition-available-on-steam-again/">Doom 3 (:Normal Edition) available on Steam again</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Nov 2012 19:30:00 EST. According to publisher Bethesda this is not a bug.<br /><br />"<em>Doom</em> 1 and 2 are the same games that are currently available on Xbox Live. Installing <em>Doom BFG</em> files to the system's hard drive could cause a conflict with the existing XBLA game files," a Bethesda spokesperson told Joystiq. "Players should not see a performance advantage by installing <em>Doom 3</em>, so we recommend not installing the game to the Xbox HDD."<br /> <br />They added, "If people do install <em>DOOM 3 BFG Edition</em> to their hard drive, they should still be able to access both titles from the Xbox Live Dashboard under 'My Games'."<br /><br />[Thanks, Justin]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/18/psa-dont-install-doom-3-on-xbox-360-if-you-want-to-play-doom-1/">PSA: Don't install Doom 3 on Xbox 360 if you want to play Doom 1 &amp; 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Oct 2012 16:30:00 EST. For fans, <em>Doom 3 BFG</em> is a package filled with memories of the franchise. Along with <em>Doom 3</em>, its expansions, and brand new 'Lost' missions, the BFG pack includes both <em>Doom </em>and <em>Doom 2</em>.<br /><br /><em>Doom 3 BFG </em>itself is not meant to be the original <em>Doom 3</em> experience with prettier textures and 3D support. "We made some slight improvements to the original game," id creative director Tim Willits told me after I got my hands on <em>Doom 3 BFG</em>'s '<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/02/the-lost-mission-of-doom-3-bfg-edition/">Lost Mission</a>' content. "Like the flashlight [which can be used in conjunction with your gun, unlike the original]. We made things a little bit brighter, we improved a lot of the character textures."<br /><br />BFG features tweaks throughout: slightly increased player speed, adjusted ammo and health, new soundscapes, and new auto-save and checkpoint features. "It plays better, it really does," Willits promises.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/doom-3-bfg-edition-quakecon-2012/">Doom 3 BFG Edition (QuakeCon 2012)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/doom-3-bfg-edition-quakecon-2012/#5189614"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/d31_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/doom-3-bfg-edition-quakecon-2012/#5189615"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/d32_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/doom-3-bfg-edition-quakecon-2012/#5189616"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/d33_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/doom-3-bfg-edition-quakecon-2012/#5189617"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/d34_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/doom-3-bfg-edition-quakecon-2012/#5189618"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/d35_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/04/get-your-nostalgia-to-mars-in-doom-3-bfg-edition/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Get your nostalgia to Mars in Doom 3 BFG Edition</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/04/get-your-nostalgia-to-mars-in-doom-3-bfg-edition/">Get your nostalgia to Mars in Doom 3 BFG Edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 04 Aug 2012 18:30:00 EST. A stripped down version of id Tech 5 was used to port both <em>Doom</em> and <em>Doom 2</em> to Sony's current-gen console for the upcoming <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/doom-3-bfg-edition">Doom 3 BFG Edition</a></em>.<br /><br />Speaking with Joystiq contributor Britton Peele at QuakeCon 2012, id Software Creative Director Tim Willits said the "easiest way" to get network support working on PlayStation 3 was to start with <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Rage/">Rage</a>, </em>the 2011 shooter in which id Tech 5 debuted.<br /><br />"We never released <em>Doom 1</em> and <em>Doom 2</em> on the PlayStation Network," Willits said. "So we're like, 'OK, what's the easiest way to do this?' And what the guys did instead of rewriting all the network support, [support for] friends, and all that kind of stuff, is they took <em>Rage</em>, took out all the '<em>Rage</em>' bits and put <em>Doom 1</em> and <em>2</em> on top of it." Despite the update in background tech, the classic games look identical to their original '90s counterparts.<br /><br />Willits added that when PS3 players launch the classics this October, they will actually be "launching most of id Tech 5," with a "game loop that runs <em>Doom 1</em> and <em>Doom 2</em>." Isn't technology grand?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/04/stripped-down-version-of-rage-used-to-bring-classic-doom-games-t/">Stripped down version of Rage used to bring classic Doom games to PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 04 Aug 2012 17:30:00 EST. The 21st-century iteration on the long-lost VR headset concept (remember <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_VR">Sega VR</a>?) is the Oculus Rift, a headset that combines a 1280x800 viewing area with head tracking technology. <br /><br />It's apparently a much better execution on the VR idea than those past headsets, as the Oculus has the thumbs-up from designers like Cliff Bleszinski iD's John Carmack - so much so that every dev kit will include a copy of <em>Doom 3: BFG</em>. It also has the explicit financial support of a bunch of <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1523379957/oculus-rift-step-into-the-game">Kickstarter</a> users, who have contributed over $800,000 of its $250,000 goal in just one day of funding.<br /><br />The development version of the Rift is designed only for PC, but the team hopes to "make the headset compatible with major consoles and all other platforms, including mobile, and as soon as possible."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/02/oculus-rift-vr-headset-kickstarter-funded-in-24-hours/">'Oculus Rift' VR headset Kickstarter funded in 24 hours</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Aug 2012 09:45:00 EST. The publisher announced this morning that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/30/doom-3-bfg-edition-brings-hell-to-360-ps3-pc-this-fall-with/"><em>Doom 3</em> "BFG Edition"</a> - which includes "re-mastered versions" of <em>Doom 3 </em>and its "Resurrection of Evil" DLC, as well as the new content dubbed "The Lost Mission" - arrives on October 16 in North America and October 19 in Europe.<br /><br />Should all that <em>Doom 3</em> content not be enough, both <em>Doom 1</em> and <em>2</em> are included in the repackaging, and the whole schebang runs $39.99 on 360/PS3, while it's $10 cheaper on PC. Of course, if you wanna play it in virtual reality, <em>Lawnmower Man</em>-style, that's gonna require a heck of a lot more money. And <a href="http://content.usatoday.com/communities/gamehunters/post/2012/06/doom-3-comes-to-virtual-head-mounted-displays-/1">being friends with John Carmack</a> would also help.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/19/doom-3-bfg-edition-bringing-hellspawn-to-retail-on-oct-16-in/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Doom 3 'BFG Edition' bringing Hellspawn to retail on Oct. 16 in NA, Oct. 19 in EU</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/19/doom-3-bfg-edition-bringing-hellspawn-to-retail-on-oct-16-in/">Doom 3 'BFG Edition' bringing Hellspawn to retail on Oct. 16 in NA, Oct. 19 in EU</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Jun 2012 10:15:00 EST. In the gameplay department, a "new check point save system" is being added, and the ever-frustrating flashlight issue is being resolved with "the new armor-mounted flashlight." If that weren't enough, the BFG Edition includes both <em>Doom 1 </em>and <em>2</em>, so you can truly vanquish every single last demon in all of the space hells, all in one package.
