Michael Bay knows his way around swiftly moving metal machines, which may be why EA Black Box <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/video/b650c5b">recruited him</a> to direct a cinematic trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run</em></a>. It's fast-paced, sleek, sexy and gritty, and we could easily see it, starring Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox's lips, in the previews before The Rum Diary. However, EA would have to change the name. <em>Need for Speed: Rise of the Runatron</em>, would work, we think.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/05/michael-bay-trailer-for-need-for-speed-the-run-doesnt-remind-u/">Michael Bay trailer for Need for Speed: The Run doesn't remind us of anything</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 05 Nov 2011 22:30:00 EST. Chance plays a pretty big role in the multiplayer component of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run</em></a>. Not in the actual driving -- though it'd be neat if you had to maneuver around the occasional stray buffalo -- but in the pre-match modifiers, as seen in the trailer above.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/02/need-for-speed-the-run-multiplayer-trailer-spins-the-wheel/">Need for Speed: The Run multiplayer trailer spins the wheel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Nov 2011 17:00:00 EST. We always kinda knew that someone was gonna go careening off a cliff in a high-end sports car at some point during <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run</em></a>, we just didn't expect to see their surprised face going over said cliff. Ever gone on a spontaneous road trip with your friends? You all suddenly decide that you should <em>absolutely</em> take a trip to Vegas for the evening, and you can <em>totally</em> come back the next day. You all put on suits, pile into the car ... and three hours later, with everyone sleeping in the car, you remember it's actually a five hour drive. The moment's been lost.<br />
<br />
That's the problem Brian Lindley and his team are facing with EA's race across the country in <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run</em></a>. "If you think about actually trying to drive across the country," says Lindley, "it might get a little monotonous, even when you're racing."<br />
<br />
To combat that issue, Lindley and the Black Box folks have created a new "Battle" race mode, one of a few different ways the team is hoping to vary the pace as protagonist Jack makes <em>The Run</em>.<br />

<br />
You'll have the opportunity to sample <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run's</em></a> signature combination of dramatic racing sequences and inexplicable on-foot excursions in a demo on October 18. It's running out in advance of the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/29/need-for-speed-the-run-detailed-racing-to-stores-nov-15/">November 15</a> release date.<br />
<br />
According to EA, the sample places you behind the wheel of a Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni, in a desert setting. Additionally, you'll somehow get access to an in-game 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S if you "refer a friend" to the demo -- we're asking EA for details of that odd promotion.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/28/ea-trotting-out-need-for-speed-the-run-demo-october-18/">EA trotting out Need for Speed: The Run demo October 18</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 Sep 2011 18:20:00 EST. <br />
Like buying games brand new? EA sure wants you to, as its "Limited Edition" of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run</em></a> incentivizes just such a purchase with the bonus inclusion of three fancy sports cars -- for the same price as the regular ol' "normal" edition, no less. Along with special access to a Porsche 911 Carrera S, a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, and a Lamborghini Aventador, picking up the "Limited Edition" nets you "five exclusive Challenges" to slay with your high-powered sports car of choice.<br />
<br />
The only version of the Limited Edition that we can spot thus far is on EA's own Origin PC download store for the totally-normal-edition price of $49.99, so it stands to reason that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions are similarly priced ($59.99 on consoles). Just to be sure, we've asked EA for a better idea of what to expect, price-wise, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/29/need-for-speed-the-run-detailed-racing-to-stores-nov-15/">come November</a>.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> EA clarified that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions will cost the standard $59.99, and the "Limited Edition" will operate similarly to the "Limited Edition" version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/battlefield-bad-company-2"><em>Battlefield: Bad Company 2</em></a>.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-limited-edition/">Need for Speed: The Run (Limited Edition)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-limited-edition/#4339006"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/limitededitionchezl1beauty_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-limited-edition/#4339007"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/limitededitionlamaventodorbeauty_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-limited-edition/#4339008"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/limitededitionlamaventadorchezl1racing1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/02/need-for-speed-the-run-limited-edition-comes-with-trio-of-super/">Need for Speed: The Run limited edition comes with trio of extra supercars</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Aug 2011 12:30:00 EST. "You're not trying to get first, you're trying to make up ground," <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run</em></a> producer Alex Grimbley explained to me during a demo session in midtown Manhattan last week. Rather than putting priority on being the absolute first during individual races, <em>The Run</em> focuses on an overall place in a cross-country race, amounting to roughly 200 miles of in-game track spread across the US. And yes, it'll allow you to go back to individual areas and work on improving track times.<br />
<br />
"Get to 101st by the time you make it here, get to 50th by the time you make it to Chicago, get to the top 10 by the time you make it to New York ... so this is a different take on a sprint race," Grimbley continued.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-desert-porsche/">Need for Speed: The Run (Desert Porsche)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-desert-porsche/#4324196"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/nfstr1-1311769421_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-desert-porsche/#4324197"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/nfstr2-1311769424_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-desert-porsche/#4324198"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/nfstr3-1311769426_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-desert-porsche/#4324199"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/nfstr4-1311769427_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run-desert-porsche/#4324200"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/nfstr5-1311769428_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/27/need-for-speed-the-run-preview-getting-back-behind-the-wheel/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Need for Speed: The Run preview: Getting back behind the wheel</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/27/need-for-speed-the-run-preview-getting-back-behind-the-wheel/">Need for Speed: The Run preview: Getting back behind the wheel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Jul 2011 09:02:00 EST. As you can see above, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-the-run"><em>Need for Speed: The Run</em></a> is about more than just driving cars across the United States as fast as possible. Apparently, it's also about hopping out of your car and running like hell while all sorts of madness chases after you.<br />
<br />
During EA's E3 2011 presser, a controller-laden developer took the reins and, well, ran as fast as possible, eventually leaping from a building as a helicopter fired on him. He then snagged a cop car and took off as the helicopter continued after him, all the while dropping bullets by the boatload. We'll have the trailer up for you as soon as possible, but for now, know this: you'll totally be able to run around on two feet in <em>Need for Speed: The Run</em>, as well as spin out on four tires.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/06/need-for-speed-the-run-lets-you-get-out-of-your-car-take-off-r/">Need for Speed: The Run lets you get out of your car, take off running</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Jun 2011 15:56:00 EST. Following yesterday's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/28/need-for-speed-the-run-revealed-in-teaser-trailer/">teaser reveal</a> of <em>Need for Speed: The Run,</em> EA has today spelled out some details we didn't know and confirmed some that we inferred from the trailer. First and foremost, the game is indeed speeding toward a holiday release date of November 15, 2011 in North America (and Nov. 17 in Europe). EA Black Box is at the wheel (as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/01/need-for-speed-shift-2-black-box-developed-nfs-both-hinted-for/">rumored</a>), with EA DICE's Frostbite 2 engine under the hood.<br />
<br />
Additionally, <em>The Run</em> will feature the much-loved Autolog feature (as loved in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit"><em>Hot Pursuit</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/shift-2-unleashed/"><em>Shift 2</em></a>), as well as the "hot cars and crazy-fast chases" we've come to expect from the <em>NFS</em> series. As seen in the trailer, the game will follow racers cross-country (<em>Cannonball Run</em>-style) from San Francisco to New York, with plenty of stops in between. EA's announcement also notes that "entering the race is just the beginning," with races taking place in "dense urban traffic," on "icy mountain passes" and "narrow canyons." Presumably we'll find out more about <em>The Run</em> as E3 approaches, this June.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run/">Need for Speed: The Run (box art)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run/#4097791"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/nfstr360pftfront_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run/#4097792"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/nfstrpcpftfront_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run/#4097793"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/nfstrps3pftfront_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-the-run/#4097794"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/nfstrwiipftfront_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/29/need-for-speed-the-run-detailed-racing-to-stores-nov-15/">Need for Speed: The Run detailed, racing to stores Nov. 15</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 29 Apr 2011 09:55:00 EST. After <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/09/need-for-speed-world-shifts-to-free-to-play-model/">going free-to-play</a> back in September, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-world">Need for Speed World</a></em> has added roughly 2 million users to its online racetracks, surpassing 3 million registered users in total. Just imagine rush hour!<br />
<br />
Although the majority of the expanded user base can be attributed to the change to a free-to-play business model, the recent localization of the game into French, Polish, Russian and Spanish likely contributed to the rise in <em>licensed</em> drivers, too. Now, how would EA say, "Please buy some DLC" in those languages?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/17/need-for-speed-world-population-passes-3-million-registered/">Need for Speed World population passes 3 million registered racers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Dec 2010 17:30:00 EST. Criterion may have swiped development duties for the upcoming installment in EA's ancient racing franchise, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit">Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit</a>, </em>but it seems the franchise will land in familiar hands for the series' next iteration. In a recent interview with <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-11-02-the-future-of-need-for-speed-revealed-interview">Eurogamer</a>, EA senior vice president Patrick Soderlund responded to a question about whether Black Box would be behind the wheel of next year's <em>Need for Speed</em>, saying "you can assume that, yes." Later, he cheekily implied that one could <em>safely</em> assume that.<br />
<br />
On the off-chance that you don't need the <em>Need for Speed</em>, Soderlund also shared a bit about the future of EA's other flagship racing franchise: <em>Burnout</em>. Soderlund explained, "we haven't made a decision to whether Burnout does this or that, but it's not dead for sure, no," adding that the publisher is currently "prioritizing what we want to do." Here, allow us to help arrange those priorities: <br />
<br />
<ol>
    <li>A spiritual successor to <em>Burnout 3: Takedown</em></li>
    <li>A new, non-motion-controlled <em>SSX</em></li>
    <li>Everything else</li>

EA CEO John Riccitiello told attendees of a recent Bank of America conference (via <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=265540">CVG</a>) that <em>Need for Speed</em> developer Black Box Studios was "on a death march, building for five years in a row," citing a decline in sales between 2004 and 2007 as the end result. "[They were] annual iterations, they had to put it out; no rest for the weary," Riccitiello said.<br />
<br />
He then explained that "It was definitely our fault," adding, "Those days are gone. We're back in two studios and we've got them on bi-annual cycles." In his opinion, the forthcoming <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit">Hot Pursuit</a></em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit"> reboot</a> is the fruit of that changed-up development cycle. "This year is right back in the core action driving ... it's had a two-year dev cycle ... I feel great about it," he posited. Oddly, no mention was made of the now annual Black Box franchise <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/skate">Skate</a></em>, but we're hoping for an announcement of <em>Skate: Hot Pursuit</em> by year's end.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/21/ea-boss-says-need-for-speed-series-was-hurt-by-death-march-dev/">EA boss says Need for Speed series was hurt by 'death march' dev cycle</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 Sep 2010 22:00:00 EST. EA has <a href="http://news.ea.com/news/ea/20100909005556/en/Speed-World-Eclipses-Million-Registered-Users">announced</a> that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-world"><em>Need For Speed World</em></a>, its MMO racer, has surpassed one million registered players since going live on July 27. With this milestone comes word that the game will soon be adding a co-op pursuit mode and expanded customization options (in addition to the already-promised new gameworld areas). Oh, and it's gone completely free-to-play.<br />
<br />
Originally free only up to level 10 -- requiring a $20 investment for the "full" experience -- <em>Need For Speed World </em>has removed its base cost, although the purchase of items, power-ups, car rentals and other premium content will remain an option under the F2P model.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/09/need-for-speed-world-shifts-to-free-to-play-model/">Need for Speed World shifts to free-to-play model, as user base passes 1 million milestone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 Sep 2010 14:30:00 EST. Anxious to envelop yourself in your Maserati's splendor and hit some hairpin turns at 100mph? Well, you can do that later. Now we want to tell you about this video game.<br />
<br />
EA has announced that its MMO experiment, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-world"><em>Need for Speed World</em></a>, will be available for download on July 27 -- a week later than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/27/need-for-speed-world-opens-up-july-20/">initially expected</a>. Those who pre-ordered the <em>Need for Speed World Starter Pack </em> -- a $20 primer that gives players $20 in SpeedBoost (in-game currency), full access up to level 50 and some power-ups including Nitrous and Traffic Magnet -- get a week's head start and can play <em>Need for Speed World</em> starting today. Those who pre-ordered get further incentive in exclusive cars, double experience points, driver name reservation and permanent VIP status.<br />
<br />
Racers looking for a free taste of the game will be able to download a special trial version (that unlocks all game modes and provides free play up to level ten) <a href="http://world.needforspeed.com/">here</a> as of July 27.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/20/need-for-speed-world-pulls-up-to-the-starting-line-on-july-27/">Need for Speed World pulls up to the starting line on July 27</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Jul 2010 14:00:00 EST. A pair of LinkedIn profiles suggests that at least two <em>Need for Speed</em> titles will be released next year. According to the <a href="http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/chris-mcclure/2/a93/b06">profile page</a> of programmer Chris Mcclure, he was at <em>NFS: Shift</em> developer Sightly Mad Studios from August 2009 - February 2010 where he "worked on new open world technology but also worked on <em>Need For Speed Shift</em> too." Cleverly, Mcclure altered this statement <em>today</em> from "... but also worked on <em>Need For Speed Shift 2"</em> after his apparent reveal was spotted by <a href="http://supererogatory.tumblr.com/post/755759187/senior-programmer-slightly-mad-studios-privately">superannuation</a> (and preserved by <a href="http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:K2vMjfyJDTEJ:uk.linkedin.com/pub/chris-mcclure/2/a93/b06+http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/chris-mcclure/2/a93/b06&amp;cd=3&amp;hl=en&amp;ct=clnk&amp;gl=us&amp;client=firefox-a">Google's cache</a>). <br />

The original <em>Shift</em> was released in September 2009, and if Mcclure <em>is</em> covering his tracks, then a sequel was likely underway as work on the first game wrapped, which would allow roughly the minimum development time necessary to release <em>Shift 2</em> some time during the first quarter of 2011. Recall that in February, during an earnings call, EA <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/08/dead-space-2-and-ea-epic-shooter-slated-for-early-2011/">dated</a> a<em> Need for Speed</em> game for that period. COO John Schappert described the unnamed iteration as "another big driving simulation" (<a href="http://investor.ea.com/common/download/download.cfm?companyid=ERTS&amp;fileid=349753&amp;filekey=e59fd89b-c8ae-4f36-a413-180ab9227da7&amp;filename=EA%20Q310%20Script%20FINAL%202.8.10.pdf">Conference Call Script</a> [PDF]). <em>"Need For Speed: Shift 2"</em> would be a good fit for that description and time frame.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/01/need-for-speed-shift-2-black-box-developed-nfs-both-hinted-for/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Need for Speed: Shift 2, Black Box-developed NFS both hinted for 2011</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/01/need-for-speed-shift-2-black-box-developed-nfs-both-hinted-for/">Need for Speed: Shift 2, Black Box-developed NFS both hinted for 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 Jul 2010 14:00:00 EST. Even though <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-sims-3"><em>The Sims 3</em></a> is gearing up to give console gamers the chance to live vicariously through its virtual, incoherent inhabitants <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/14/sims-3-moves-to-consoles-october-26/">in October</a>, it doesn't mean EA has ceased support for the PC version of the game. In fact, there's a new expansion coming this fall, titled "<a href="http://www.thesims3.com/community/news.html?selMonth=5&amp;selYear=2010#295131341">The Sims 3 Fast Lane Stuff</a>" pack.<br />
<br />
This new content pack gives players the choice between four different lifestyle options: racing; intrigue; rockabilly; and classic luxury. Each option provides your Sim with custom furniture, outfits, and vehicles suited to the respective lifestyle choice -- there's even a garage for storing and/or pimping your rides. Suddenly, Xzibit's services don't seem so valuable.<br />
<br />
If you want to pre-order the $20 add-on, head on over to <a href="http://eastore.ea.com/DRHM/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=DisplayProductDetailsPage&amp;SiteID=ea&amp;Locale=en_US&amp;ThemeID=718200&amp;Env=BASE&amp;productID=191313700">the EA Store</a> and have at it. In the meanwhile, feel free to swerve into our gallery below for some new screens.<br />

<div style="text-align: left; ">EA Black Box has announced the first downloadable content pack for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/skate-3">Skate 3</a></em>, which rolled into stores on May 11th. Dubbed "The Maloof Money Cup 2010 NYC Pack," the download will launch on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network next week, on June 8th, for 400 MS Points or $5. It'll add 100 Gamerscore points, five new Trophies and -- oh! -- new things for you to do if you're playing to have fun.</div>
<br />
Taking a few steps away from the game's Port Carverton playground, the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maloof_Money_Cup">Maloof Money Cup</a> event has you competing in Flushing Meadows, New York, where "the site of the 1964 World's Fair has been converted into one gnarly skate mecca." Said gnarly skate mecca adds new challenges and includes a new, custom-built street park in which impressive skating can net you heaps of cash. And that could only lead to even more fame, fortune and a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/07/skate-3-good-times-with-product-placement/">lucrative sponsorship</a> with McDonalds. <em>I'm Maloofin' it.</em><br type="_moz" /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/04/skate-3-maloof-money-cup-dlc-available-on-june-8/">Skate 3 'Maloof Money Cup' DLC available on June 8</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Jun 2010 20:00:00 EST. EA has <a href="http://news.ea.com/news/ea/20100527005573/en/Speed-World-Races-PCs-July]">announced</a> a July 20 date for the official launch of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/need-for-speed-world"><em>Need For Speed World</em></a>, its racing MMO developed by EA Black Box. The game has been in closed beta for quite some time, with Joystiq <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/16/need-for-speed-world-mmo-preview/">getting a look at it</a> back in March. <em><br />
<br />
NFSW </em>will be released as a free game client which will let players advance their driver up to level 10 before being asked to purchase a "starter pack." The game can continue to be played without it, but players won't be able to level up to earn new vehicles and power-ups. <br />
<br />
EA is <a href="http://world.needforspeed.com/preorder">accepting pre-orders</a> for a $19.99 starter pack, which allows for progression up to level 50 and includes an exclusive car, beta access, the ability to play <em>NFSW </em>a week before release and a selection of power-ups. Unfortunately, our suggestion for a "back-seat driver" power-up -- which would play the game for you to grind levels -- doesn't appear to have made the cut.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/27/need-for-speed-world-opens-up-july-20/">Need for Speed World opens up July 20</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 May 2010 17:00:00 EST. Got <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/skate-3"><em>Skate 3</em></a>? Want to bust kickflips as everyone's favorite outer space engineer, Isaac Clarke? By inputting the code "deadspacetoo" into the Cheats area under the Extras section, you'll unlock the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space">Dead Space</a> </em>protagonist for use in Free Play mode. Who knew he could be so nimble in that outfit?<br />
<br />
Keen observers may notice Clarke riding <a href="http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=167221&amp;id=18523496658&amp;ref=mf#!/photo.php?pid=4230455&amp;id=18523496658">on a futuristic board</a>. That's because, by inputting the code, you'll also gain the new deck. Sorry, it's non-transferable between skaters -- we tried.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/22/dead-spaces-isaac-clarke-playable-in-skate-3/">Dead Space's Isaac Clarke playable in Skate 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 22 May 2010 05:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/skate-3"><em>Skate 3</em></a> has been touted as a social experience ever since it was announced, encouraging players to "team up" and "throw down," all in the name of being the best skateboard crew around. It's a new focus for the series, but if you're going to justify your sequel with a single feature, that feature had better work well.<br />

That, ladies and gentlemen, is a lot of new Games on Demand. We've got three new ones this week and a price drop. As for the new titles, we've got a platformer, military shooter and hardcore skating simulation in <em>Prince of Persia</em>, <em>Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway</em> and <em>Skate 2</em>, respectively. <em>Prince of Persia</em> and <em>Skate 2</em> each run $19.99 in the US, while <em>Brothers in Arms</em> will set you back $29.99. Meanwhile, Rockstar's <em>Table Tennis</em> has seen a 10 dollar price drop to $19.99. As always, pricing and availability vary by region.<br />

Focusing on the Freeskating mode, the video demonstrates how easy it is to hook up with some friends and navigate the different parts of Port Carverton. For the most part, these are things players could do in <em>Skate 2</em> -- been there, done that.<br />
<br />
But there is one interesting item of note here: the team films. The trailer only briefly touches on that functionality near the end, which, come <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/17/skate-3-may-11-release-date/">May 11</a>, will grant foursomes their own 15 clicks of fame via <a href="http://skatereel.ea.com/">the official <em>Skate</em> website</a>. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/27/skate-3-demo-on-xbox-live-and-psn-april-15/">As promised</a>, a demo for EA Black Box's latest, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/skate-3"><em>Skate 3</em></a>, is available for download today on Xbox Live. The demo weighs in at a hefty 862.54MB and features <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/18/skate-3s-skate-school-as-taught-by-coach-frank/">a Skate School section with Coach "Jason Lee" Frank</a>, as well as a few different and online team challenges.<br />
<br />
As with the <em>Skate 2</em> demo, there's a ticking clock as soon as you start -- 20 minutes total gameplay -- so keep that in mind when going for that ultra sick grind. Unlike the <em>Skate 2</em> demo, however, you can restart the whole thing right from inside the demo itself. <br />

The demo, which arrives on Xbox Live and PSN on April 15 (just in time for tax day!), will let players show off their skating skills in the game's University District. The demo will include both single-player and multiplayer challenges including Own the Lot, Domination and Hall of Meat. If you'd rather work on your not-constantly-falling-over skills, the demo features the new Skate.School mode as well.<br />
<br />
Players can also appease their inner skate park designer by dropping up to 24 different objects into the demo. And, as if all that wasn't enough, the Skate.Reel feature is included as well, allowing players to upload their epic runs -- or epic bails, as the case may be -- for all their friends to witness. Check out a trailer for the demo above.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/06/skate-3-demo-highlighted-in-new-trailer/">Skate 3 demo highlighted in new trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Apr 2010 18:40:00 EST. At PAX East, we managed to bend the ear of Chris "Cuz" Perry, one of the <em>Skate</em> series' producers -- you know, the dude from those<span style="text-decoration: underline;"> </span><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/29/skate-3-dev-diary-explains-the-origins-of-port-carverton/">developer diary</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/24/video-skate-3-ramps-up-user-created-content/">videos</a>? Yeah, him. He was rocking the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/skate-3"><em>Skate 3</em></a> booth, showing off the game, so we did what we do best: cornered him and started firing off questions. See what he had to say below!<br />
<br />
<strong>Could you tell us what your name and position is?</strong><br />
<br />
My full name is Chris Perry and I'm a producer on <em>Skate</em>.<br />
<br />
<strong>You guys really kept up support for <em>Skate 2</em> through DLC long after the game came out. Is that something you plan to do with <em>Skate 3</em>?</strong><br />
<br />
Official policy is that we can't talk about that, but it sounds like it's a good idea!<br />

We've covered <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/skate-3">Skate 3</a>'s </em>new focus on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/15/skate-3-hands-on-co-op-career-mode/">co-operative challenges</a>, managing a team of skaters and selling some skateboards -- but the raw experience of getting on the virtual board and busting tricks, not much has changed significantly. And that's why the new difficulty levels were such an interesting addition for me.<br />

While visiting the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/skate-3"><em>Skate 3</em></a> booth here at PAX today, we were handed a few stickers. In fact, the front of the stickers weren't even the interesting part, as the back revealed a demo is set to <em>bust mad trixx</em> on Xbox Live and PSN on April 15. Not too surprising, considering the first two games also offered a taste before their respective releases.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/27/skate-3-demo-on-xbox-live-and-psn-april-15/">Skate 3 demo on Xbox Live and PSN April 15</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 27 Mar 2010 14:45:00 EST. Experts that they are, the folks at EA developer Black Box are well aware of the attraction, and they've employed the character to teach <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/skate-3">Skate 3</a></em>'s "Skate School" mode. <br />
<br />
Frank acts as a framework for the fleshed out <em>Skate 3</em> tutorial, teaching players how to nail tricks and polish their execution -- it probably helps that he's full of goofy, if occasionally awkward, humor to lighten up the mood as well. And hey, if we learned anything from the previous two <em>Skate</em> games, we're going to be spending a ton of time just figuring out how to ollie without faceplanting over and over (and over), so we could use the levity.<br />

EA has also revealed the roster of skaters that will appear in the game, including ... a bunch of guys whose names you'll totally recognize if you're into skateboarding -- as well as <em>My Name is Earl </em>star and former pro skater Jason Lee, in his <a href="http://www.stereosoundagency.com/galleries/video/985049010/696534247">Coach Frank</a> persona.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/17/skate-3-may-11-release-date/">Skate 3 rolls in on May 11</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Mar 2010 10:40:00 EST. <br />
So, there it is: the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/skate-3">Skate 3</a> </em>box art. There certainly is a lot less <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Skate-2-Xbox-360/dp/B001GGM2M6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1267130447&amp;sr=8-1">white space</a> this time around, eh?<br />
<br />
Along with that, EA's also sent over a new developer diary and a handful of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/skate-3-02-25-2010/">new screens</a> for you to look at. The developer diary offers a look at the clean, wide-open spaces of the University district in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/29/skate-3-dev-diary-explains-the-origins-of-port-carverton/">Port Carverton</a> -- an area not only home to various ledges and long staircases, but it's also the new resting place of the Mega Park, the series' ongoing hot-spot for huge, ridiculous air and impossible drop-ins. Last week, we finally got to try it for ourselves. While it was admittedly only a small part of what looked to be a fairly meaty experience, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/06/team-up-and-watch-this-new-skate-3-trailer/">the co-op play</a> was surprisingly fun.<br />
<br />
After an introduction by members of the Black Box development team, we got to team up with a couple other journos and hit the abundant pavement of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/29/skate-3-dev-diary-explains-the-origins-of-port-carverton/">Port Carverton</a>. We played as the host for a three-player game, and, as such, had the ability to access a sub-menu that showed the various locations within the game world and the team challenge types available at each. We could then either move the team there, or put it up for a vote.<br />

Looking more like a multiplayer map from <em>Modern Warfare 2</em> than a sweet spot to bust some darkslides, we're anxious to see if the execution will be up to snuff. If so, it'll be among the most unique and diverse spots the series has to offer. <br />

Aside from the quarry, the video above also provides a brief look at an industrial district, a new spillway and a new area dubbed <strike>3rd &amp; Army</strike> <strike>1st &amp; Air Force</strike> 2nd &amp; Navy.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/03/latest-skate-3-dev-diary-shreds-the-industrial-park-quarry/">Latest Skate 3 dev diary shreds the industrial park, quarry</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Feb 2010 19:40:00 EST. The third installment takes place in the fictional skateboarding paradise of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/15/skate-3-throws-down-in-may-2010/">Port Carverton</a> and, as the above developer's diary informs, it's actually a homage to recently-deceased colleague Ron "Mad Carver" Hartley. He's even got his own in-game memorial, which we think is a great way to be remembered. <br />

When we go, we hope somebody cares enough to at least hold on to the newspaper clipping about that one blog that lost its life defending the earth from the hordes of Raptormen who'll eventually enslave us all in 2022.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/29/skate-3-dev-diary-explains-the-origins-of-port-carverton/">Skate 3 dev diary explains the origins of Port Carverton</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 29 Jan 2010 20:00:00 EST. You know, we were just thinking that we'd love to be able to go back in time and check out <em>Brave: A Warrior's Tale</em>. Thankfully, <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2010/01/19/games-on-demand-brave-amp-skate.aspx">Major Nelson</a> informs us the game has just been added to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/games-on-demand">Games on Demand</a> for $30, so we don't have to take apart that DeLorean in our back yard. It's joined by <em>Skate</em>, which will set you back a much more pleasant $20 and features far less <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/18/pre-order-skate-3-get-black-box-skate-park/">in-your-face advertising</a> than the latest entry in the series.<br />

It's an underground <strong>FALLEN</strong>, industrial-looking warehouse enclosure home to various pipes, ledges, and curved surfaces -- a place where lots of skateboarding can be done. We know at least four portions of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/EA/">EA</a> that probably aren't thrilled about the Playfish acquisition. <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=25999">Gamasutra</a> reports that significant layoffs have taken place at EA's Tiburon, Redwood Shores, Black Box, and Mythic divisions. Gamasutra suggests that the layoffs exceed the scope of EA's normal annual layoffs. We're attempting to verify the actual percentages with EA.<br />
<br />
According to a tweet by <a href="http://twitter.com/Athryn/statuses/5565314202">Katherine Pitta</a>, "<span class="status-body"><span class="entry-content">Mythic Entertainment, responsible for <em>Warhammer Online</em>, just laid off 80 people, about 40% of it's employees." Former EA employee <a href="http://twitter.com/erong/status/5566020930">Eron Garcia</a> estimated "HUGE chunks of EA" have been let go. Mythic has been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/19/rumor-mythic-layoffs-affect-qa-customer-support/">subject</a> to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/04/rumor-more-layoffs-at-mythic-senior-designers-affected/">layoffs</a> in the past, as has <em>Need for Speed</em> and <em>Skate </em>developer Black Box, which already had its studio closed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/19/ea-details-restructuring-plan-laying-off-10-of-employees/">last year</a> as part of another widespread round of layoffs. Best of luck to everyone affected by the layoffs!<br />
<br />
[Update: Approximately 1,500 people have been or will be laid off as a result of this year's cuts, EA reports in its <a href="http://investor.ea.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=422982">earnings statement</a>. Last year's "major" restructuring resulted in the loss of about 1,000 jobs.]<br />

EA's new <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/skate-3/">Skate 3</a> </em>trailer touts team-play as the stand-out addition to the franchise. The new element allows players to tackle challenges and compete against other teams online for popularity within the Skate.Feed community. Of course, it's just as easy to become <em>unpopular,</em> too -- just ask the guy in the short shorts.<br /><br />EA Black Box is once again handling the development of the game, building on the, um, <em>building features </em>of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/skate-2">Skate 2</a></em>. The studio is working to greatly improve the film maker and skate park editor, as well as adding new features such as an in-game and web-based "social network," <em>plus</em> the ability to seamlessly share parks, board designs and other user-created content a la <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/forza-3"><em>Forza 3's</em></a> storefront.<br /><br /><em>Skate 3</em> is due in May 2010 for PS3 and Xbox 360.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/skate-3/">Skate 3</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/skate-3/#2429105"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/skate3_1st_look_2-1152009-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/skate-3/#2429106"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/skate3_1st_look_4-1152009-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/skate-3/#2429107"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/skate3_1st_look_5-1152009-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/skate-3/#2429108"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/skate3_1st_look_6-1152009-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/skate-3/#2429109"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/skate3_1st_look_9-1152009-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/06/team-up-and-watch-this-new-skate-3-trailer/">Team up and watch this new Skate 3 trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 06 Nov 2009 09:45:00 EST. But this time around, EA's skateboarding franchise takes the action outside of San Vanelona, bringing players to the new town of Port Carverton. That isn't the only new thing the third installment offers, however, as the press release promises players will be able to team up and form skate crews to "complete challenges together while advancing each other's careers." This even includes new challenges in the Hall of Meat and an all-new <em>Skate </em>school for players of all skill levels.<br /><br />EA is also promoting the <em>Skate </em>Create feature suite, an "innovative toolset that empowers gamers to truly express their skate style by creating their own graphics, videos, and skate parks," which should be available both online and offline. And if you find yourself extra anxious to fork over money for the game well before its release, a pre-order bonus in an in-game area called Black Box Distribution Skate Park should tickle your fancy. This area is none other than the "home turf of Zero, Mystery, and Fallen skate teams."<em> <br /><br />Skate 3</em> will be available on Xbox 360 and PS3 in May 2010.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/15/skate-3-throws-down-in-may-2010/">Skate 3 throws down in May 2010</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Sep 2009 09:39:00 EST. Apparently EA is working on a sequel to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/skate-2"><em>Skate 2</em></a>, if the <a href="http://twitter.com/epiclyTRIFE/status/2447024444">Epicly Trife twitter</a> is to be believed. <a href="http://www.epiclytrife.com/">Epicly Trife</a> (<strong>NSFW</strong>) is a site dedicated to skating, and its twitter account said the following: "I just got told 'tonight we gotta celebrate,' one of the bro's got offered to be in <em>SKATE 3</em>." By no means a confirmation, we're still excited, as <em>Skate 2</em> was not only a great sequel, but pretty much the best skating sim around. Plus, it's much easier to get up after falling down four flights of stairs in a video game, as gravity is a much more harsh mistress in real life.<br /><br />We've put in word to EA for comment, but with almost everyone taking the day off today, don't hold your breath for a response. We sure aren't.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://kotaku.com/5306835/yup-looks-like-therell-be-a-skate-3">Kotaku</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/03/rumor-skate-3-in-the-works/">Rumor: Skate 3 in the works</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 14:00:00 EST. Based on the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maloof_family#Skateboarding">highest-pursed skating event</a> in history, the Maloof Money Cup makes its way to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/skate-2"><em>Skate 2</em></a> on July 9 for $3.00 and 240<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> on PSN and Xbox Live, respectively. That's one day before the real-life event takes place, and the DLC will mimic the setup of that event pretty closely, through a collection of single-player and online events. These events consist of freeskate, vert, and street contests, and will also provide Xbox gamers with an additional 250 Achievement points to earn. Considering the game's last update was back in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/26/skate-2s-new-classic-san-van-dlc-is-old-hat/">February</a>, we're surprised EA even remembered it had a skateboarding game.<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/30/maloof-money-cup-dlc-busting-kickflips-in-skate-2-july-9/">Skate 2's Maloof Money Cup DLC busting kickflips on July 9</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Jun 2009 11:45:00 EST.
