Customers of UK retailer GAME who say they were sold inferior, former display games as new during the Easter holiday were understandably plenty hacked off -- Cadbury Creme Egg buzz not withstanding. But CVG reports they've not only gotten an apology from the company, but the offer of replacement or refund for any purchase that wasn't in near mint condition.

Guys, between you and us, the the next time you want a make a fairly belabored Easter analogy about the resurrection of Jesus, maybe don't go with selling old games as new? We get it, but how about just a poster next time? How about just a nice poster with bunnies and perhaps colorful eggs?
GAME sold opened games as new during Easter, offers refunds, apology originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 15 Apr 2010 03:00:00 EST. What a week in the World of Warcraft -- we've explored even further into the mysteries of Ulduar, we saw Peggle in WoW and WoW on the iPhone, and the Easter holiday of Noblegarden has arrived (even though it is a little late thanks to Blizzard's long testing periods) in Azeroth. But even though all of this is happening at once, there's no need to fear -- Joystiq's sister site WoW Insider is here every single day with news and views about what's going on in Azeroth. Whether you're a complete noob, you left the game at level 60 (boy howdy things have changed since then), or you're currently rolling through the 80 endgame, we've got news for you.
Yeah, we know. Every Easter, we write up a historical account of well-hidden Easter eggs featured in video games over the years. You've heard them all by now, we're sure -- the guerrilla credits of Adventure, the "Secret Cow Level" in Diablo II, Yoshi's appearance in Super Mario 64, GTA IV's "Heart of the City," A Link to the Past's Chris Houlihan room, and Symphony of the Night's hidden audio track, to name a few. For more info about these tried and true surreptitious extras, we suggest checking out this GameSpot post.

However, this past year saw the arrival of a heretofore undiscovered Easter egg in a title you all know and love -- ladies and gentlemen, we present "The Goldeneye Breakdancing Glitch," viewable in the video after the jump. Apparently, tilting the Goldeneye cart in the middle of a game leads to hilarious impromptu b-boying from any and all on-screen characters. You simply must check it out -- and while you're down there, tell us your favorite video game Easter eggs in the comments!
Continue reading Obligatory video game Easter eggs post: 2009 Edition

Obligatory video game Easter eggs post: 2009 Edition originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 12 Apr 2009 16:00:00 EST. After all the holiday-foo was complete, we're willing to bet many of you relaxed with video games. It's just a feeling we have (probably because many of us did the same thing!). You know what that means? It means we have an excuse to round up a few things that celebrate both Easter and gaming. At the rate it's going, we're sure it'll be Time's Person of the Year or something soon. And the church is starting to get that popularity, apparently, as a Jesus Mii is being used to advertise Easter Sunday services for the Mission Bay Community Church.

The church itself is located in the San Francisco area and, to our knowledge, the first of its kind to actually be hip to what the kids think is, well ... hip. Kudos to the church on finding a smart way to advertise their services.

For all of you celebrating Easter today, we hope you have a safe and happy holiday.

[Via Joystiq]
Mii Jesus advertises for Easter services originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 23 Mar 2008 12:00:00 EST. Hopefully, you'll spend time with friends and family, eat yourself into a food coma, and maybe hunt for a colorful egg or two. We know we'll be out and about doing our Bunny Day traveling, but will also be sure to get a few solid hours of gaming in. And, really, that just may be the best plan. Hop onto Xbox Live, spread Bunny Day cheer and challenge your enemies to an egg-off (whatever that may be). Have an amazing Sunday and thanks so much for the continuing to support the craziness that is X3F. Hippity-hop!
Happy Bunny Day from X3F! originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 23 Mar 2008 10:30:00 EST.
Bad news, though -- we already found the best egg. Yep, today we're shilling for Cadbury, because it feels good in the tummy. What is new, however, is using the holy caricature in an advertisement for Easter services.

In a (successful [and adorable]) attempt to capitalize on the continued popularity of the Nintendo Wii, the Mission Bay Community Church in San Francisco has adorned their ads for holy week with the pint-sized Jesus Mii.

Christened with the tagline "Come and Follow Mii," and including a very confused bunny, the ad is surprisingly well put-together, and definitely gives the impression that the church knows their audience. Even if you aren't religious or just hate April holidays, we still wish you a great day. On second thought, how can you not love celebrating a day that features bunnies, colored eggs and (literally) a ton of candy? See, that's what we thought. One of our favorite things to do during Easter is color a few dozen chicken eggs with our family, friends, and sworn enemies. X3F reader and fanboy at heart Josh also enjoys coloring Easter eggs with his wife and son and this year decided to go all fanboy on an egg. Yup, that beauty up above is his work ... an Xbox 360 logo plastered on an Easter egg. Awesome job Josh and what a great way to brainwash the little one at such an early age. Kudos to you.

Anyway, no matter if you celebrate Easter or not we hope you have a great day stuffing your face with food, playing video games, and catching that darn rabbit. He's a quick little creature, but capturing him is totally worth it ... trust us.
Happy bunny and colored egg day! originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 08 Apr 2007 10:30:00 EST. After an insightful episode of South Park that explained the relationship between bunnies, eggs, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we decided to do some of our own research into the history of the seemingly bizarre Easter rituals. After becoming bored with that, we thought about easter eggs in the virtual sense -- i.e. those hidden treats found on CDs, DVDs and video games.

Celebrate Easter by telling us your favorite virtual easter eggs; while you're thinking, check out our picks for the week's best game-related webcomics. Which do you want first? Okay, the bad news it is: the final version of the Wii Internet Channel is delayed. Although delayed in the nick of time, as it were. It was supposed to be available in late March ... and here we are in late March. No final Internet Channel sighting over here, up in the crow's nest? Negative sir, only the beta. Opera tells us that it will now be available some time in April ... although no actual date has been announced yet. Our money is on late April, it's possibly too much to hope for an Easter surprise.

Onto the good news, then: the Wii Opera browser will be available longer for everyone's favorite price ... FREE! That's right folks, don't order yet because er, you don't need to. You can just go ahead and download the free beta, and then grab the real goods when they're offered up in April. The Opera browser will cost 500 Wii points ($5 for Americans) after the free period, which was set to end in June, but will now be sliding to July. The only great unknown is the current beta browser, which was good until the end of March -- will they be extending that until the real one comes out?

[Thanks, tqt]
Fat lady sings: Opera free longer, but final version delayed originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 22 Mar 2007 13:26:00 EST. That intensely long cycle, besides making a game epic and wonderful and amazing, usually gives rise to an extreme attention to detail. Some savvy forum-goers have compiled a list of little easter eggs for your enjoyment, which can be found after the jump.

How many of these did you find, or even notice? Do you feel as though these little details even make a difference in the overall gaming experience? We ourselves find that we're occasionally drawn back to the world of Hyrule for a few minutes, just to feel that epic sense of adventure ... or maybe it was just those bomb arrow fireworks.
Twilight Easter Eggs originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 25 Jan 2007 16:05:00 EST.
