This was probably Capcom's thought process when it launched the latest patch, which introduces a glitch that freezes the game whenever Rolento's knife hits an opponent's fireball.

The above video demonstrates the bug, which affects Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games that have been updated to version 1.04, Shoryuken reports. The patch does fix a few problems, such as hit box issues.
Patch breaks Street Fighter X Tekken in new and exciting ways originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 17 May 2012 19:30:00 EST. If you hope to keep having fun, you might want to avoid the game-breaking bug discovered by fellow players. According to many posts on the Blizzard forums, equipping a Templar follower with a different shield may result in the game desynchronizing from Blizzard's servers. Users are also reporting that they are unable to log back into Diablo 3 - specifically encountering timeout error 3006 - even after restarting the game.

As noted by Eurogamer, the issue may be restricted to the Demon Hunter class. Blizzard is currently looking into the problem. In the meantime, regardless of your class, you should probably avoid swapping equipment with the Templar follower.

Update: Apparently the issue arises specifically if you swap items that you currently have equipped with the Templar. Still, probably safer to not mess with a Templar's equipment at all for now..
Diablo 3 PSA: Don't give a Templar follower a shield originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 15 May 2012 10:00:00 EST. Case in point: YouTuber ZeldaFreakGlitcha recently used a bug in Ocarina of Time that allows him to complete the game in 23 minutes. The glitch involves defeating Queen Gohma and activating, but not traveling through, the warp gate, which then drops child Link in Ganon's castle, and miniaturized missions ensue.

Usually we'd say defeating Ganon is no small feat, but with this, well... you know. ZeldaFreakGlitcha is live-streaming more attempts to beat his best bug time today on TwitchTV.
New Zelda: Ocarina of Time bug beats game in 23 minutes as child Link originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 15 Apr 2012 12:30:00 EST. Hunicke will be "providing leadership in game design" for Tiny Speck and Glitch specifically from Tiny Speck's San Francisco offices, according to an announcement at the Glitch Blog.

"When they told me they had an office in San Francisco, where folks were joining up to imagine new fun for Glitch... well, I must admit I swooned," Hunicke said in an update on her personal blog.

Hunicke's departure from thatgamecompany comes hot on the heels of Kellee Santiago's similar announcement earlier this morning. The galaxy's most important (and most imported) face is not being properly preserved in the transfer between some games of Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 (ours included), prompting BioWare to work on a correction.

According to BioWare's Community Coordinator, Chris Priestly, "The issue is likely in how faces were detected when imported from Mass Effect 1 into Mass Effect 2, and we're working on the best way to correct it for affected players." In our experience, a wonky import process only messes with facial data, and none of Shepard's recorded actions throughout the previous games.

If you're driven mad by inconsistent canon -- or can't bear the thought of Shepard being vain enough to get some touch-ups before his last stand -- BioWare is pointing you to a set of user-made tools for the PC version. As far as we know, this is the only time we'll ever recommend DIY facial surgery.
BioWare investigating fix for Mass Effect 3 face import errors originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 07 Mar 2012 16:30:00 EST. Well, it looks like at least one of them may already be on the 360 version. Awkward.

In the video above, YouTube user SoulReaperTTG demonstrates a glitch that allows the player to select Elena (one of the 12 DLC characters) and fight with her normally. While we don't know how the glitch actually works, it appears to be based on tricking the game into loading Elena's character data instead of Poison's. This isn't Poison wearing Elena's skin, either; anyone familiar with Third Strike will instantly recognize Elena's moves as being distinctly her own.

SoulReaperTTG's channel also features prologue videos for some of the DLC characters, supposedly recovered from the 360 version of the game. Now, because the game isn't actually out yet, we have no way of knowing if the retail version actually shipped with this content, or if Elena's inclusion is unique to the pre-release version SoulReaperTTG got his hands on. We anticipate extensive sleuthing to commence once the game releases this Tuesday, and have reached out to Capcom for comment.
Some Street Fighter X Tekken character DLC may exist on disc, Elena playable via glitch originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 04 Mar 2012 19:30:00 EST. Users have complained of in-game stuttering, even with lowered graphical settings, and say these issue have persisted since launch.

Threads on the Steam and Eidos forums have languished since being posted in August, with no official response from Eidos despite each still being active with user complaints. We've contacted Square Enix, who acquired Eidos back in 2009, to find out if there are any plans to address ongoing complaints.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution PC players complain of stuttering, request patch originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 01 Mar 2012 03:45:00 EST. An admin on the game's official forums recently posted about a potential glitch in the game that resets earned stats and unlocked content, and that thread has earned itself a whopping 63 pages of irate customers on both Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. Just losing your stats in the game is a waste of time, but some of those customers bought and paid money for XP boosts and other items to help them level up, which means they're losing that money as well.

Another official forum post suggests that the problem arises when the trial version of the game is converted into the full version. We've contacted WBIE for more information on the glitch. If you're thinking about unlocking the full game or have a lot of stats saved up already, you might want to step gingerly until a fix is out.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]
Users report reset glitch in Gotham City Impostors originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 16 Feb 2012 02:30:00 EST.
"Wuhu Island" may sound like an innocuous place, but it's apparently rife with dirty, dirty cheaters. And that cheating doesn't sound like it's stopping anytime soon, with Nintendo telling StickTwiddlers that the island's "Maka Wuhu" track in Mario Kart 7 won't be patched or updated to fix the glaring glitch found at the start.

"We are aware that it is possible to navigate a certain part of the track in Wuhu Island in a way that allows a large part of the course to be bypassed," Nintendo rep Buddy Roemer (no, not that Buddy Roemer) told the site. And though Nintendo acknowledges the glitch, Roemer said there "are no plans to update the game to remove this shortcut." Not for the moment, at least.

The logic behind not updating the game is perhaps even more bizarre than acknowledging the glitch and refusing to fix it. "Doing so would create an unfair advantage for the users of the original release of the game," Roemer said, though he did also say the request for a fix has "been added to our records for Mario Kart 7." We imagine a printout of the email is now sitting in an official three-ring binder somewhere, biding its time next to fan art of Yoshi with a glider.
Nintendo doesn't plan on fixing Maka Wahu track in Mario Kart 7 originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 17 Jan 2012 22:00:00 EST. If you elect to queue a demo from Xbox.com on your browser, and you aren't logged into Xbox.com on that device, you run the risk of accidentally buying the content instead of trying it out, as pointed out by a Giant Bomb user.

That's because after you click the "Try Game" button and log in, the system acts as if you've elected to buy, giving you a "Confirm Purchase" button. If you aren't paying attention, and you just click through, you'll have made the purchase.

Luckily, Microsoft told Giant Bomb that the web team is aware of the problem, and is "actively working to resolve it." In the meantime, read every button!
Xbox.com issue causes risk of accidental purchases originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 05 Jan 2012 15:45:00 EST. If this is the direction Kickstarter wants to take its future project line-up -- video-game-inspired and of creative, high-quality production -- we're on board. Kickstarter's official first Project of the Day of 2012 is Glitch, a fledgling webseries about a 20-something video-game tester who begins seeing 8-bit glitches in his real, otherwise completely average, life. Imagine it as a mix between Office Space and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

If that doesn't convince you to donate to the Glitch cause, the above trailer might. If that doesn't sell you, the prizes you earn by helping fund the project might. If those don't sway you, you're probably suffering a brain hemorrhage in your "potentially really entertaining webseries" lobe, and you should get to the hospital immediately.
Kickstarter begins the new year with a Glitch originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 01 Jan 2012 12:30:00 EST.
Of all of the weird glitches to occur in newly launched game hardware, this is by far the most soothing. Andriasang spotted a video taken by a new Vita owner of what appears to be some kind of debug mode, complete with three swimming dolphins, a floating oyster and a pearl, all of which can be seen from various angles and distances. It is truly a multiporpoise device.

We'd be a lot more charmed by this, if not for the fact that this Vita was reportedly stuck in this dolphin mode. No amount of variable dolphin lighting could make up for that inconvenience.
Rumor: PS Vita glitch leads to dolphin debug mode originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 21 Dec 2011 13:55:00 EST. Sony UK is downplaying the scope of reported freezing issues with the PlayStation Vita. Speaking to The Guardian, SCE UK head of public relations David Wilson said, "We're annoyed with these stories, because we can't find any evidence of widespread glitches."

He went on to clarify that there has been no apology issued from Sony on the subject of glitches. "The stories even said that Sony has issued an apology for PS Vita glitches, which simply isn't true - there's an apology on our Japanese website for people who are having trouble getting through to our technical help line, but that's it." The page with the apology also links directly to a list of troubleshooting measures in case of a freeze.

But don't take the overwhelmed tech support, and addressing "freezes" in a shortlist of frequently asked questions, as evidence that freezing is a common issue.
Sony UK: no evidence of 'widespread glitches' among Japanese Vitas originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 21 Dec 2011 11:50:00 EST. What's that, Link? You say your progress in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword has been halted by a game-breaking sequence of events? And that I must deliver expository text because you're unable to speak? Alright then.

Nintendo's corrective strategy for Skyward Sword, which will strike you as unorthodox and elaborate compared to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 patching procedures, is to release a full Wii Channel. It will repair (or effectively patch) save files created after the glitch has occurred. According to an announcement from Japan, the "Zelda Data Restoration Channel" will be available through the Wii Shopping Channel, from the Wii Channel section.

Nintendo of America has not yet updated its support page to highlight the new channel. At the moment, it's letting customers send in their save files for repair.
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword save files repaired by Wii channel originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 21 Dec 2011 09:45:00 EST. If you're currently many hours deep into The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword -- say, around the "Song of the Hero" quest -- you'd better be careful. According to an email from Nintendo sent to Zelda Informer, you may encounter a game-breaking glitch if you complete tasks in a certain order during the "Song of the Hero" quest. If you save after the bug is in effect and don't have an earlier file as a backup, you'll have to start Skyward Sword over.

If you complete the quest's desert leg first and speak to a Goron gentleman not once, but twice, the game locks out completion of the other two portions, halting all progress in the game. That said, it's pretty easy to avoid: just don't talk to the Goron more than once. Done! (Alternatively, do not complete the desert part first.)

Nintendo gets more specific in describing the glitch in its letter, which we've dropped below the break. We've reached out to Nintendo to see if a patch will be issued for the game, but the company's official release unfortunately didn't indicate as much.
Continue reading Oops! Glitches usually come in one of two varieties: The hilarious, and the game breaking. Sometimes, however, you'll stumble across a bug so profoundly weird that it falls into both categories. Enter the "Reverse World," an Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 error which flips the camera 180 degrees on its Z axis, turns the characters into silhouettes and reverses all input motions.

As explained in the above tutorial video, the glitch is activated by performing Morrigan's Astral Visions hyper combo and then sliding down a wall as Strider. The effect is devastating to the match, but since the glitch requires the participation of both parties, it doesn't seem like it could be abused for trolling purposes. In fact, we'd take a smiling, floating Servbot over Wesker's DHC glitch any day.
Welcome to UMvC3's Reverse World originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 04 Dec 2011 11:30:00 EST. So there you are, quietly guarding Whiterun Hold, when a massive, dumb giant comes stomping up the path and hits you with its club, trampolining you miles into the beautiful autumn sky, never to see your family or friends again. Rude. Update: if you're having trouble getting in (it's open to all, but there might be a wait), Tiny Speck has set up a "fast pass" site for Joystiq readers here.

Glitch, the cute browser MMO set inside the minds of giant monsters, is officially opening up to the public today at 10AM PDT after a long beta period. The game is the work of Tiny Speck, a new company formed by Stewart Butterfield, Cal Henderson, Eric Costello, and Serguei Mourachov, four co-founders of Flickr. It's a free-to-play game with subscription and virtual currency options, both used for avatar customization items.

Speaking to me in a phone interview yesterday, Butterfield claimed that the game is playable in a casual style, but also accommodates players interested in a more intense experience. "We wanted to have enough depth to capture the imaginations of people who want to go deep," he said. "There are 1000-plus items and 90 skills."

Glitch has potential for emergent gameplay, which he compared to Eve Online, though he was quick to note that it's not as combat-oriented as Eve and more fun to actually play. For example, he related an anecdote from the beta, about players creatively using a "notes" system. "Early on, some of the richer players started a bank, with an alternative currency that was based on notes," Butterfield said. "They just guaranteed the notes with their supply of in-game currency based on the timestamp and the person who created it."
Continue reading Tiny Speck's 'Glitch' MMO launches today [update]

Tiny Speck's 'Glitch' MMO launches today [update] originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 27 Sep 2011 09:00:00 EST. The Witcher 2's patch 1.3 still doesn't have a release date, but we do have more details about its fixes and goodies. Patch 1.3 will allow item storage at the game's inns, new aspect-ratio support and will include a free DLC quest that sounds more like it belongs in LittleBigPlanet, "A Sackful of Fluff."

The patch will also fix a slew of issues, including patch installation causing the game to reset to default, map pin problems -- and the option to fistfight the woman praying at a statue in Vergen, which has now been deactivated. The full list of patch 1.3 updates can be found here.
The Witcher 2 patch 1.3 detailed, includes free DLC originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 16 Jul 2011 22:30:00 EST. Keita Takahashi has stretched the Boy in his iPhone Noby Noby Boy app all the way from Tokyo to Vancouver, as developer Tiny Speck announces that the Katamari Damacy creator has moved there to join the team working on Glitch. What's that feeling? Yes, many of you are now contemplating playing an MMO for the first time.

Glitch, in case you don't remember, is the cute side-scrolling MMO about occupying the imaginations of eleven giants with multifarious googly eyes, created by a team put together by Flickr co-founder Stewart Butterfield. "A few months ago we were lucky enough to start talking to [Takahashi]," Butterfield said on the game's blog. "We played some Glitch together, batted ideas back and forth and found that we shared the same values - deep beliefs in curiosity, humor, absurdity, and above all a belief in the positive power of play." As a result of this summit, Takahashi joined Tiny Speck in an unspecified capacity.

In addition to this new role, Takahashi's company Uvula appears to still be active, mostly in creating artwork for other media. Glitch is currently in beta, and expected to launch this summer.
Continue reading Keita Takahashi joins Tiny Speck, working on 'Glitch' MMO

Keita Takahashi joins Tiny Speck, working on 'Glitch' MMO originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 08 Jul 2011 17:25:00 EST. The recent patch for Fallout: New Vegas on Xbox 360 is gonna need a patch. Bethesda has confirmed that it has found a solution to an issue in the current patch, causing "problems with game saves." The company says it will replace the corrupting patch "as soon as humanly possible."

It's not clear what will happen to save files for people who already downloaded the broken patch, but the company recommends users "decline the update until the new one is live." We've followed up with the publisher for more details.

Update: Bethesda has posted that the update for English regions should go live later tonight. For other languages, the wait is going to be a bit longer. The company will update when it has a better idea.
Fallout: New Vegas patch being patched on Xbox 360, decline update for now originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 29 Apr 2011 12:30:00 EST. Two issues have come up with the new 3DS -- one kind of serious, and one kind of not. NeoGAF users and a GoNintendo post, among others, document a periodic error screen that appears during gameplay, which requires the system to be shut off and turned back on in order to get back to playing. It seems to be most commonly associated with Super Monkey Ball 3D and Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars.

Nintendo of Europe issued a statement to Eurogamer suggesting that this issue could be fixed by downloading the latest firmware. If that doesn't fix the issue, the company recommends users "contact their local Nintendo Customer Service centre to investigate the problem further."

Some users are also reporting an excessively loose hinge, causing the top half of the system to wobble during play. "The hinge i thought was OK," reports 3DSBuzz forum user Suspiria, "but throughout the day it has got worse and worse." Nintendo acknowledges the possibility of such an issue on its support site, advising those who suffer from it to send the system in for repairs. We're contacting Nintendo about both issues, and will let you know what shakes out. Hopefully, it's not the top of a 3DS.

[Thanks, Don]

Update: Nintendo sent Joystiq a statement asserting that "The number of calls and emails received by our customer support center is well below the rate experienced during past hardware launches, and there are no widespread issues." Find the full statement after the break.
Continue reading Users report 3DS crashes, loose hinges

Users report 3DS crashes, loose hinges originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 29 Mar 2011 12:30:00 EST. Amateur QA engineer "boricuacookie" discovered a glitch in Dragon Age 2 that awards XP infinitely. The glitch, taking place in the chantry, appears pretty simple to execute -- certainly much simpler than dozens of hours of fighting. But, of course, don't do this.
Continue reading Dragon Age 2 glitch is an XP factory

Dragon Age 2 glitch is an XP factory originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 10 Mar 2011 15:15:00 EST. EA tells Joystiq that it's aware of some players experiencing a bug, which appears to stop any further progress, in The Sims 3 for consoles. A representative for the publisher says EA is "continuing to look into it."

InGamingWeTrust has the details on the bug, occurring on both PS3 and Xbox 360, which involves the entire console locking up while attempting to automatically or manually save the game. EA has no details on what currently triggers the bug, or how to prevent it.

If you're experiencing the issue with your copy of Sims 3, it seems the only recourse at the moment is to add your voice to the choir. In a statement printed on its website, Crysis 2 developer Crytek says it's aware of issues regarding the Xbox Live-exclusive multiplayer demo, and is "working to resolve" them "as quickly as possible." Known issues include sudden disconnects from servers and, for some, constant console freezing when first joining or concluding matches.

We'll be sure to pass along word when Crytek's ironed out the bugs in its billion-dollar nanosuit, but in the meantime it appears we're all stuck playing the waiting game while waiting to play the game.
Crytek 'working to resolve' Crysis 2 multiplayer demo issues originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 26 Jan 2011 16:10:00 EST. Much like its predecessor, LittleBigPlanet 2 is experiencing some technical difficulties during its first few days in the would-be capable hands of its creative community. Some players have reported that when they attempt to connect with other players online, they hit what's being colloquially referred to as the "Infinite Loading" glitch, which freezes the game on a neverending loading screen. (And that, as you might imagine, is kind of a bummer.)

The exact cause of the issue is unknown, though there's a quick and dirty workaround (which worked for us, when we experienced the glitch): If you get stuck on the loading screen, turn your controller off, and the level should actually load. Once you're in the level, you can turn your controller back on and get back to whatever it was you had set out to do -- probably slapping around your fellow players and being generally unhelpful, you jerk.

Media Molecule had not responded to our request for comment as of publishing, but a recent tweet from the developer seems to indicate that a freezing glitch has been cornered and a fix is in the works.
LittleBigPlanet 2 online players report 'infinite loading' glitch originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 21 Jan 2011 11:33:00 EST. Issues plaguing Red Dead Redemption and its Undead Nightmare and Liars & Cheats add-ons (both disc-based and downloads) should be nipped in the bud today, Rockstar reports. Upon booting up the game, users will be prompted with a mandatory download, that resolves issues including the inability to unlock certain Achievements or Trophies, and a glitch in which players would get stuck in the environment, especially when sitting down at specific Liar's Dice chairs. It's quite a large list of fixes, so hit up the link below for the full list.

Of course, this update won't correct the behavior of all the vicious, murderous wildlife in the game. We're afraid that's a problem you (and your trusty six-shooter) will have to resolve on your own.
Red Dead Redemption title update fixes DLC glitches originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 06 Jan 2011 17:30:00 EST. During Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, it's possible to leave the Animus and explore Monteriggioni as Desmond Miles in the game's present-day, 2012. However, users on the game's forum are complaining about a nasty glitch where they're unable to sit back down in the Animus after running around the Auditore compound, effectively trapping them in 2012 and halting all progress in the game. You can see the glitch for yourself in this video, though the resolution is fairly low.

We've contacted Ubisoft to see if there's a workaround or patch in the works. We'll update the post as soon as we hear back.
Originally announced for late 2010, it's now due in early 2011. The Glitch site has relaunched with new information and a new trailer, which you can see after the break. The game is being made with the backing of investors including executives at LinkedIn, Groupon, and Google

"For a really long time," the song in the trailer explains, "eleven giants walked around. They thought of funny things, until their thinking came alive. And that's what this game is: you're inside their thoughts. Go and make them bigger, and we'll play for a long while." Said "giants" are a group of grotesque, many-eyed creatures, and "making their thoughts bigger" seems to entail increasing skills in several categories by interacting with animals and objects found throughout the world.

As they explore the world, players will have to fight off attacks from "the Rook," a group of evil birds who "can appear and attack plants, animals or players in the world," Butterfield told VentureBeat. "It can warp them, and players have to do some work to heal the injured animals and plants around the world."
Continue reading Flickr founder's MMO takes place inside giants' imaginations

Flickr founder's MMO takes place inside giants' imaginations originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 23 Nov 2010 19:00:00 EST. According to player reports picked up on by Strategy Informer, the PC version of Call of Duty: Black Ops suffers from some rather serious issues. Most notably, players have been experiencing performance dips in single player and multiplayer. As the video after the break demonstrates, the game will stutter and periodically freeze every few seconds, resulting in some undeserved deaths and undoubtedly a fair amount of rage (Destructoid pointed out similar issues in its review of the title).

The issue appears to stem from a memory problem, with users reporting that Black Ops often hogs up much more CPU than is necessary, even climbing as high as 100 percent according to some users. According to Treyarch's David Vonderhaar, the company is aware of the problem, though he offered no further details on a potential fix. Additionally, GameServers.com, which provides dedicated servers for the game, has stated on its forums that the lag is related to an internal game bug and that Treyarch is "looking into it."
Players are reporting that the "Return to Ostagar" content, one of seven DLC packs supposed to be included in the package, is missing. It's in the menu, but doesn't load. Just one more problem for this bizarrely troublesome content.
According to Eurogamer, EA is aware of the issue, and is giving vouchers for the Ostagar DLC to those affected. Just contact Customer Services to have them return Ostagar to you. And now we know why it wasn't named the "Return to Ostagar Is Definitely On the Disc" Edition.
PS3 Dragon Age Ultimate Edition missing Ostagar DLC in Europe originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 02 Nov 2010 03:35:00 EST. With a regular software update framework in place, Nintendo would have no problem patching out a recently discovered, game-breaking bug in Metroid: Other M. Unfortunately, such a system doesn't really exist, leaving the company to adopt a more ... unique approach to solving the problem. Nintendo is asking people living in Japan who have experienced the bug to send the SD card or Wii console with their game save on it to its Kyoto-based service center.

We've contacted Nintendo of America to see if it's come up with a more practical -- or any -- approach to fixing the issue. As it stands right now, homebrewers had a fix ready to go about a week ago, and that's ... well, that's just silly.

Update: NoA has posted a detailed explanation of the issue on a support page where it describes how to both create and avoid the bug. If you mistakenly did the former (or were just plain curious), there are also instructions to "set up a repair" and send Nintendo your save file on an SD card. Hopefully, it won't have to travel all the way to Kyoto and back.
Nintendo offers impractical solution to Metroid: Other M bug in Japan originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 27 Sep 2010 13:15:00 EST. After years of hunting space pirates, alien insects and metroids, it looks like there's one bug that can defeat Samus -- or, more precisely, one glitch in Metroid: Other M. IGN reports that players have encountered a bug that makes it impossible to complete the game.
Continue reading Game-breaking bug found in Metroid: Other M

Game-breaking bug found in Metroid: Other M originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 18 Sep 2010 02:00:00 EST. Looks like its time to throw another victim on the pile of DLC which crashes the game upon which it's intended to expand. This time around, it's Crackdown 2's recently released "Toy Box" pack, which is supposed to add the "Keys to the City" mode from the first game, as well as a handful of new weapons and items. According to a number of angry commenters on Xbox.com, the 560 Microsoft Point ($7) download doesn't add this content as much as it ... well, removes everything else.

For reasons unknown, a large number of players report that the game simply freezes up when trying to play after having downloaded the "Toy Box" pack. Some users report that clearing the system's cache and playing offline allows the game to load, but connecting to Live and downloading the game's latest update returns it to its non-functioning state. We've contacted Microsoft to find out what the problem is, and when we can expect a fix. You might want to consider keeping the "Toy Box" firmly closed for the time being.
There's a bit of a rash of games breaking other games or DLC breaking games these days, especially when it comes to Achievements. Issues like these often leave a lot of people asking, "Where's my refund?" but, as my colleague Alexander pointed out, no one really knows where to direct that question, if anywhere.

Downloadable content isn't something you can simply take back to GameStop or sell on eBay. And even if you know where to ask, can you get a refund for broken content? That's the issue we'll set out to resolve in this LGJ. To examine this, let's imagine a hypothetical: You buy "Fabled Halos" from the Xbox Live Marketplace, and at a later date, you buy the "Broken Code" expansion DLC. Broken Code not only causes Fabled Halos Achievements to stop working, but it also causes save game glitches with another title, Fallin: New Scottsdale, and somehow gives you access to the full version of yet another game Fortress Fighters. You're mad. The developer of Fortress Fighters is mad. Whose fault is this and who has obligations to fix what?
Continue reading LGJ: Where's my refund?

LGJ: Where's my refund? originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 31 Aug 2010 18:00:00 EST. To make it worse, the glitch occurs within Modern Warfare 2 (a game that bajillons of Xbox 360 owners already have) -- or its recent demo (which is freely available).

Somehow, running Modern Warfare 2 coincidentally fools the system into thinking it's authorized to temporarily unlock full versions of Garou: Mark of the Wolves, The King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match, Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug XX, and Samurai Shodown II. Joystiq tested the exploit with Garou and KOF '98, and can verify that it works. For now, at least.

We're certain this issue will be patched by one of the three affected parties -- SNK Playmore, Activision, or Microsoft -- in the near future, now that it's known. In the meantime, just because you can get these games for free doesn't mean you aren't a major jerk for doing so.
Diehard bi-wheel racing fans who participated in MotoGP 09/10's recent 2010 Season DLC were likely miffed by an unintended side effect of the update. Apparently, players who completed the game's 2009 Season couldn't access the new competitions or bikes without being kicked to the main menu. Even worse, upon returning to their 2009 careers, players would realize their precious motorcycles had mysteriously vanished into thin air.

Capcom recently apologized profusely on Eurogamer, stating, "we are aware of the problem and are working to deliver a solution to solve the issue as soon as possible." In the mean time, you might want to keep on living in the past. Sure, the bikes are a bit outdated, but at least they exist.
Capcom working to fix MotoGP's disappearing bikes bug originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 08 Jul 2010 23:30:00 EST. Has your brotainment been at an all-time low with Army of Two: The 40th Day's campaign DLC, Chapters of Deceit? Well, according to Eurogamer, EA is well aware of the issue regarding faulty Achievement and Trophy unlocks and is currently working on a fix.

"There is a known issue affecting Achievements in an Army of Two DLC pack," an EA spokesperson said. "We are looking into a solution and hope to provide an update soon." In the meantime, we suggest you enjoy one of those other games that inspired The 40th Day. It's not a bad way to pass the time until you wait for "soon" to come around.
Army of Two: The 40th Day DLC fix coming soon, EA says originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 14 Apr 2010 10:45:00 EST. Happy badassing!
Original: If you've played beyond the first mission of Splinter Cell: Conviction while connected to Xbox Live, you've likely run into a freezing glitch. A few minutes into the single-player campaign's second mission, the game just locks up -- but there's hope!

Thanks to a pretty comprehensive thread on the Ubisoft Forums, a temporary workaround has been discovered, which requires clearing the system hard drive cache and logging out of Xbox Live. "I assure you everyone is hard at work to resolve the issue," posted an Ubisoft technical support representative, who could not confirm when players can expect an official patch.
