Electronic Arts' continued comfort with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Steam/">Steam</a> opening up its sales op-pore-tunities is clear, as the mega-publisher adds <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/news/2910/">six more titles</a> to the service. Valve's digital distribution network now provides access to:<br />
<ul>
    <li><em>Need for Speed: Shift </em>($50)<em><br />
    </em></li>
    <li><em>The Godfather</em> ($10)<em><br />
    </em></li>
    <li><em>The Godfather 2</em> ($40)<em><br />
    </em></li>
    <li><em>Battlefield 2: Complete Collection</em> ($30)<em><br />
    </em></li>
    <li><em>Command &amp; Conquer Red Alert 3: Uprising</em> ($20)<em><br />
    </em></li>
    <li><em>Medal of Honor: Airborne</em> ($10)<em><br />
    </em></li>
</ul>
Curiously, Steam still doesn't have EA's mega-hit <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/the-sims-3">The Sims 3</a></em>, which is available on <a href="https://store.stardock.com/product.aspx?productid=ESD-IMP-W222">Stardock's competing Impulse</a> system. We've asked EA about this discrepancy before, but still don't have a clear answer.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/06/steam-adds-eas-godfather-2-nfs-shift-battlefield-2-more/">Steam adds EA's Godfather 2, NFS: Shift, Battlefield 2, more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Oct 2009 23:01:00 EST. Electronic Arts told the <a href="http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2009/06/e3.html">LA Times</a> during an interview this week that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/godfather-2"><em>Godfather</em></a> franchise is done at the publisher. EA Games label president Frank Gibeau told the paper, "We're not going to do another one." He then noted that there was no <em>Godfather</em> game in the schedule going out three years.<br /><br />EA's PR followed up with the Times to say no decision had been made about the fate of the mafia franchise and that "Paramount is a great partner." The speculation is that EA is toning down its focus on licensed properties and working on making a stable of original franchises to exploit.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/05/ea-exec-states-there-wont-be-more-godfather-games/">EA exec states there won't be more Godfather games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 05 Jun 2009 23:15:00 EST. For another week in the United Kingdom, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/godfather-2"><em>Godfather II</em></a> has managed to secure the illustrious second spot on the top entertainment software list. According to <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&amp;ct=110015">Chart-Track</a>, this is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/15/godfather-2-whacks-competition-in-uk-debuts-at-number-2/">the second week in a row</a> the game has been in the number two spot -- but there are some titles <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/20/now-playing-april-19-25-2009/">releasing to the PAL territory</a> that could topple this kingpin. It'll be interesting to see what the charts look like next week.<br /><br />Of course, <em>Godfather II</em> was predictably bested again by <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wii-fit">Wii Fit</a>, </em>so it's not all gabbagool and broken kneecaps in the UK. Not <em>yet</em>, anyway ...<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/20/corleone-staying-power-godfather-ii-holds-2-spot-in-uk/">Corleone staying power: Godfather II holds 2nd spot in UK charts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Apr 2009 15:00:00 EST. The UK likes its crime, apparently, as EA's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/godfather-2"><em>Godfather II</em></a> has managed to soar to the #2 spot on the region's sales charts. Sure, we've seen a few <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005363/">Guy Ritchie</a> flicks in our life, but we're fairly surprised that you lot turned out in droves to check out the exploits of the Corleone family. The game even managed to topple <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/30/resident-evil-5-maintains-uk-sales-chart-lead/"><em>Resident Evil 5</em></a> and <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2008/12/30/mario-and-sonic-and-an-unhealthy-obsession/"><em>Mario and Sonic at the Olympics</em></a>, which we all know are like crack to the UK.<br /><br /><em>Godfather II</em> was not able to keep <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wii-fit"><em>Wii Fit</em></a> from the top spot this week, however. But, hey, the sky is still blue and the grass is still green, so what did you expect?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/15/godfather-2-whacks-competition-in-uk-debuts-at-number-2/">Godfather 2 whacks competition in UK, debuts at number 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Apr 2009 12:30:00 EST. <br /> So, as part of a great press kit to promote <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/godfather-ii"><em>Godfather II</em></a>, EA sent us a really bitchin' set of brass knuckles. But, faster than you can say, "Hey, Jim from legal called and says that mailing people weapons is a f'ing terrible idea," we learned from EA that, sadly, it would like those knuckles back.<br /><br />We're going to acquiesce when we get the promised return mailer, but, tormented by the thought of having to part with our new friend, we spent the afternoon madly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/godfather-ii-brass-knuckles/1486578/"><em>punching everything in sight</em></a>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/godfather-ii-brass-knuckles/">Godfather II: Brass Knuckles</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/godfather-ii-brass-knuckles/#1486578"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/brassknuck-004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Brass Knuckles" title="Brass Knuckles" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/godfather-ii-brass-knuckles/#1486576"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/brassknuck-003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Brass Knuckles vs. The Cat" title="Brass Knuckles vs. The Cat" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/godfather-ii-brass-knuckles/#1486571"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/brassknuck-001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Brass Knuckles vs. Honest Abe" title="Brass Knuckles vs. Honest Abe" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/godfather-ii-brass-knuckles/#1486574"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/brassknuck-002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Brass Knuckles vs. The Wife" title="Brass Knuckles vs. The Wife" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/godfather-ii-brass-knuckles/#1486582"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/brassknuck-005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Brass Knuckles vs. A Calendar" title="Brass Knuckles vs. A Calendar" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/10/exclusive-things-punched-with-eas-brass-knuckles/">Exclusive: Things punched with EA's brass knuckles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Apr 2009 16:07:00 EST. During my adolescence, many adults and television commercials told me that "crime doesn't pay." Well, after having spent a considerable amount of time with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/godfather-2"><em>Godfather II</em></a>, I've found criminal exploits <em>do</em>, in fact, pay -- and handsomely. And I didn't just earn in-game money, I earned <em>out-game funs</em>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii/">The Godfather II</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii/#1443163"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/10.15.118.37-image45-3202009-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii/#1443162"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/10.15.118.37-image40-3202009-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii/#1443161"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/zone01_high_h20_m1_x329_y38_z-185_000015-3202009-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii/#1443160"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/zone01_high_h20_m1_x344_y38_z-182_000014-3202009-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii/#1443159"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/zone01_high_h20_m1_x326_y38_z-168_000018-3202009-6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/09/joystiq-review-godfather-ii/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq Review: Godfather II</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/09/joystiq-review-godfather-ii/">Joystiq Review: Godfather II</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 Apr 2009 12:59:00 EST. The <em>Godfather II</em> room will feature a sneak peek at the poker tables from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/12/ea-sports-complex-brings-the-play-to-playstation-home/">upcoming EA Sports</a> <em>Home</em> space. Just turn up at around 8pm EST dressed as your favorite celebrity and join in.<br /><br />The newly updated <em>Resident Evil 5</em> space will also play host to an event on Thursday April 16, where players will be able to play with the game's developers and the <em>Home</em> community team in co-op mode. The event will take place between 6pm and 10pm EST and developers will jump in with anyone who has set up a game-launching session and they will stick around for an entire chapter, or 20 minutes. Whichever comes first.<br /><br />The updated <em>Resident Evil 5</em> space will feature a new minigame and a souvenir shop where you can buy Chris and Sheva costumes. <em>Home</em> continues to upgrade and expand at a decent pace now so if you haven't checked it out in a while, now might be a good time.</div>

Although you're free to complain about these microtransaction shenanigans in the comments below, remember the best way to let EA know how you feel is by voting with your wallet. Our friends at <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/46949.html">GameTrailers.com</a> have a new trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/godfather-2/">The Godfather II</a> that showcases an interesting feature coming to the EA franchise: Don Control. The multiplayer feature offers what looks to be an RTS-style control system where one person hosting an online match can place bets on the match (that will in turn carry over into the single-player campaign), issue commands to their human teammates (should they cooperate, that is) and follow individuals of their choosing from a third-person perspective. <br /><br />Rather than phoning in the <em>de rigeur</em> multiplayer, it seems as though EA has taken the extra time afforded them by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/03/ea-whacks-the-godfather-ii-release-plans-delays-game/">the game being pushed back</a> to beef up a very different experience than what the single-player campaign offers. To see exactly what we're talking about, hit the break to check out the trailer.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii-multiplayer-dons-control/">The Godfather II Multiplayer - Don's View</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii-multiplayer-dons-control/#1443163"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/10.15.118.37-image45-3202009-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii-multiplayer-dons-control/#1443162"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/10.15.118.37-image40-3202009-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii-multiplayer-dons-control/#1443161"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/zone01_high_h20_m1_x329_y38_z-185_000015-3202009-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii-multiplayer-dons-control/#1443160"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/zone01_high_h20_m1_x344_y38_z-182_000014-3202009-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii-multiplayer-dons-control/#1443159"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/zone01_high_h20_m1_x326_y38_z-168_000018-3202009-6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/21/don-control-in-godfather-ii-introduces-rts-style-gameplay-you/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>'Don control' in Godfather II introduces RTS-style gameplay you can't refuse</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/21/don-control-in-godfather-ii-introduces-rts-style-gameplay-you/">'Don control' in Godfather II introduces RTS-style gameplay you can't refuse</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 21 Mar 2009 20:30:00 EST. EA hasn't been just kicking back, watching <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/godfather-2"><em>The Godfather II</em></a> hype build ( ... it's building, right?). The Redwood Shores studio has been tinkering with the final game during the strategic <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/11/godfather-ii-takes-hit-out-on-april-7/">delay</a>, and EA has announced today that a new multiplayer mode will be added -- <em>free</em> -- in addition to the four preexisting modes. "Don Control" will be patched into the game on release day, April 7, and features a 16-player scenario where money from the single-player game is wagered for, well, ultimate <em>Don-ination! </em>(Geddit?)<br /> <br />Confirmation of the <em>Godfather</em> freebie comes just days after Capcom was forced to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/13/capcom-defends-charging-for-resident-evil-5-versus-dlc/">defend</a> its $5 multiplayer patch for <em>Resident Evil 5</em> after it became clear that the modes were being <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/10/resident-evil-5-dlc-adds-new-online-multiplayer-modes/">prepped</a> before the game's release. Was EA's decision to offer Don Control for free (and not save it for post-release premium DLC) influenced by Capcom's faux pas -- perhaps even a subtle swipe at its industry competitor? We like to think EA is tossing in the new mode out of the kindness of its heart (its very strategic, consumer value-bearing heart). Then again, this is the same company charging $10 for XBLA <em>Connect Four</em> and <em>Yahtzee</em> -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/17/this-wednesday-hasbro-family-game-night-matches-with-xbla/"><em>a piece</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/18/godfather-ii-release-day-patch-adds-new-multiplayer-mode/">Godfather II release day patch adds new multiplayer mode</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Mar 2009 11:08:00 EST. EA <a href="http://www.businesswire.com/portal/site/home/permalink/?ndmViewId=news_view&amp;newsId=20090309005349&amp;newsLang=en">announced</a> today that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/godfather-2"><em>Godfather II</em></a> has gone gold -- the Corleone family is ready to take over Xbox 360 and PS3 on April 7 in North America and April 10 in Europe. The publisher sent word last month that it was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/11/godfather-ii-takes-hit-out-on-april-7/">planning for an April release</a>, but considering the previous February launch date was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/03/ea-whacks-the-godfather-ii-release-plans-delays-game/">violently capped</a> so close to making retail, this latest word is simply affirmation that the game is coming.<br /><br />April seems to be a relatively quiet release month, so getting the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/28/new-godfather-ii-trailer-shows-the-dons-view/">Don's View</a>" of things and pre-ordering the game for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/08/godfather-ii-release-date-set-pre-order-bonus-revealed/">Tommy Cipolia character</a> might be worth it for fans of sandbox-style crime games who have extorted all they could from <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/saints-row-2">Saints Row 2</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/The-Lost-and-Damned/">GTA IV: The Lost and Damned</a></em>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii/">The Godfather II</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii/#1443163"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/10.15.118.37-image45-3202009-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii/#1443162"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/10.15.118.37-image40-3202009-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii/#1443161"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/zone01_high_h20_m1_x329_y38_z-185_000015-3202009-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii/#1443160"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/zone01_high_h20_m1_x344_y38_z-182_000014-3202009-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii/#1443159"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/zone01_high_h20_m1_x326_y38_z-168_000018-3202009-6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/09/godfather-ii-finds-gold-will-make-april-7-release/">Godfather II finds gold, will make April 7 release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Mar 2009 11:43:00 EST. It seems the Don has been spending some time in Paradise City, returning from his <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/03/ea-whacks-the-godfather-ii-release-plans-delays-game/">extended vacation</a> with a pair of the city's more recognizable rides. Eagle eyes at Polish site <a href="http://www.playpc.pl/newsroom/artykul.asp?Artykul=546">Play PC</a> recently discovered similarities between two cars in both <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/godfather-2">Godfather II</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise">Burnout Paradise</a></em>, namely the latter's Hunter Cavalry and Carson Opus.<br /><br />Whether or not the cars in the upcoming EA sequel are the exact same models as those in <em>Burnout</em>, or just strikingly similar, isn't exactly clear. In any case, the Don's chop shop looks like it sanded off most of the details from <em>Burnout</em>'s rides. When you're the Don, image is everything; we just hope the new paint jobs are as bulletproof as they are green.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.n4g.com/NewsCom-289312.aspx?CT=1">N4G</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/08/burnout-cars-spotted-on-godfather-iis-streets/">Burnout cars spotted on Godfather II's streets</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 08 Mar 2009 22:45:00 EST. As <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/03/ea-whacks-the-godfather-ii-release-plans-delays-game/">promised</a>, living room mobsters will have to wait a while longer before pounding the streets as the Don. Electronic Arts announced that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/godfather-2/"><em>Godfather II</em></a> will now ship in North America on April 7, with Europe getting the game later that week on April 10. First revealed in 2007, the sequel was expected to ship for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/08/godfather-ii-release-date-set-pre-order-bonus-revealed/">February 24</a>, however it was pushed back earlier this month in order to generate more buzz around the game's release. <br /><br />Thanks for the heads up EA, though we've circled the new release date on our calendars in pencil. You know, just in case you want to feed the hype machine some more, or if the economy takes out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/04/ea-stock-responds-to-bad-news-with-14-percent-growth/">another hit</a> on your bottom line.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/11/godfather-ii-takes-hit-out-on-april-7/">Godfather II takes hit out on April 7</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Feb 2009 09:03:00 EST. EA has revealed that<em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/godfather-2">The Godfather II</a></em> won't be making <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/new-games-this-month-february-2009/1329898/">its release later this month</a>, stating that the game will instead arrive at retail during the company's Q1 fiscal period, between April and June '09. While curiously missing a press release announcing the delay (unlike the similarly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/03/the-sims-3-delayed-to-early-june-non-pc-versions-later/">delayed <em>Sims 3</em></a> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/03/dragon-age-origins-delayed-to-second-half-of-2009/">Dragon Age</a></em>), EA CEO John Riccitiello explained that the reason for <em>Godfather II's</em> delay was to generate more excitement about the title, and exercise the company's new focus on longer lead marketing.<br /><br />It wasn't all marketing, however; the lingering effects of an unusually busy holiday season are also to blame. Says Riccitiello: "To be honest with you, we looked at the title, title feels very solid It will appeal to its audience well and it was likely to ship, as we had originally planned it, into a very cluttered, price reduced excess inventory channel both in North America and Europe in a heavy competitive environment. We didn't think it would get its best shot at success in [fiscal] Q4."<br /><br />Let's hope the extra time spent marketing the game will give the devs at Redwood Shores some extra time to make the game as buzzworthy as EA is going tell us it is. More on this as it develops.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/03/ea-whacks-the-godfather-ii-release-plans-delays-game/">EA whacks The Godfather II release plans, delays game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Feb 2009 17:45:00 EST. <br />Power comes with influence, intelligence and an iron fist. In <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Godfather-2">The Godfather II</a></em> players will wield power and use all the benefits it provides to create the most ruthless army within the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mafia">Cosa Nostra</a>. At least that's what <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000380/">Robert Duvall</a> told us in the latest trailer for the upcoming EA sequel. Yes, good old Tom Hagen will be by your side to aide in obtaining a blood-splattered key to the city. And not "by your side" in the "we're going dancing" kind of way. <div align="left">After EA released both <em>Mirror's Edge</em> and <em>Dead Space</em> demos last year, we figured EA's marketing team would be releasing demos for most all upcoming titles. Makes sense, right? Well, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-godfather-2"><em>The Godfather II</em></a> must be the exception to the game demo rule, because <em>Godfather II</em> executive producer <span class="text_article_body">Hunter Smith confirmed with <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=206055">CVG</a> that they have no plans to release a demo </span><span class="text_article_body">"at this point." </span>We guess that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/14/the-godfather-is-all-about-networking-on-facebook/">Facebook game</a> will have to fill the demo void.<br /></div>
</div>
<br />Though, fret not demo lovers, because if you're in desperate need of new game demo excitement, the XBLM will be receiving the highly anticipated <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/07/ces-09-halo-wars-releases-feb-28-demo-available-feb-5/"><em>Halo Wars</em> demo</a> in February and a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/16/f-e-a-r-2-demo-to-cause-soiled-pants-january-22/"><em>F.E.A.R. 2 </em>demo</a> later this week. As much as we love the splashy production values of a mob war or car bomb, there's something to be said for the simple joy of putting an elderly tailor's head through a plate-glass window, just to get half of his earnings for the day.<br /><br />... <div align="left">Everyone and their grand-pappy is on Facebook these days and <em>The Godfather</em> is no exception. To build excitement for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-godfather-2"><em>The Godfather II</em></a> and reach that "social networking" crowd, EA has released a not too violent Facebook game called <em><a href="http://apps.facebook.com/godfather-crimerings/">Crime Ring</a></em>.<br /></div>
</div>
<br />The <em>Crime Ring </em>application can be accessed <a href="http://apps.facebook.com/godfather-crimerings/">here</a> (Facebook account required) and is a relatively involved game where the goal is to create a family, build up your bank roll, become an evil mobster, play dress up, and promote EA's upcoming <em>Godfather </em>sequel. We're sure those of you who are interested will be able to figure it out, but we're more interested in learning which other famous mobsters are on Facebook. Al Capone, perhaps?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/14/the-godfather-is-all-about-networking-on-facebook/">The Godfather is all about networking on Facebook</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Jan 2009 11:00:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">There's a <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/44302.html">new trailer</a> for EA's upcoming <em>GTAIV </em>lookalike <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-godfather-2"><span style="font-style: italic;">The Godfather II</span></a> and it puts a spotlight on the crew. The Godfather's crew. You know, folks like The Safecracker, The Medic, The Engineer, The Bruiser, The Demolitionist and The Arsonist. Sounds to be a bit like a <span style="font-style: italic;">Team Fortress</span> game. <div align="left">EA, going against the game releasing grain, will not be delaying <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/942/942828p1.html"><em>Godfather II</em>'s release date</a> as is usually the norm when publishers shift around their release schedules. Instead, they'll be bumping <em>Godfather II</em>'s release date ahead (an expedite?) to late February. The 24th in North America and the 27th in Europe, to be exact. That means that a game that we really <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-godfather-2">haven't seen</a> or heard much of will be releasing in a little over a month's time. Interesting decision EA, now how about spending that marketing budget?</div>

EA's <em>The Godfather II</em> will be hitting PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on February 24th in North America, and February 27th in Europe. The open-world game promises to be a more strategic affair than before with the new "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/07/godfather-2-detailed-less-gta-more-rpg-rts-board-game/">Don's View</a>" feature, allowing you to see a 3D representation of your criminal activity across all three of the game's cities.<br /><br />Those who pre-order the game will have a distinct advantage. The pre-order bonus is an exclusive in-game character, Tommy Cipolla. Other characters in the game start off with just one skill and a level-one weapon, while Tommy is truly a talented guy. He has <em>two</em> skills (arsonist and medic) and can carry a level-<em>two </em>shotgun. How <em>badass</em>. Surely, this is an offer you can't refuse.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii/">The Godfather II</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii/#1443163"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/10.15.118.37-image45-3202009-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii/#1443162"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/10.15.118.37-image40-3202009-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii/#1443161"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/zone01_high_h20_m1_x329_y38_z-185_000015-3202009-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii/#1443160"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/zone01_high_h20_m1_x344_y38_z-182_000014-3202009-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-godfather-ii/#1443159"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/zone01_high_h20_m1_x326_y38_z-168_000018-3202009-6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/08/godfather-ii-release-date-set-pre-order-bonus-revealed/">Godfather II release date set, pre-order bonus revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Jan 2009 10:11:00 EST. EA has opened the briefcase on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Godfather-2/"><em>Godfather 2</em></a>, revealing that the sequel you can't refuse will ship for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in February 2009. <br /><br />EA also shed a bit more detail on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/07/godfather-2-detailed-less-gta-more-rpg-rts-board-game/">previously revealed</a> "Don's View," which promises to kiss the gameplay with a<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/18/godfather-ii-has-rts-elements/"> touch of strategy</a>. Here you'll build up, expand, and defend crime rings against rival families by hand picking "Made Men," and sending them out onto the streets to do your bidding. <em>Godfather 2</em> will also include the previous game's BlackHand control scheme, promising "more visceral hand-to-hand brutality" this time around. As the old saying goes, if you want something done right, do it yourself.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/08/ea-dates-godfather-2-for-february-2009/">EA dates Godfather 2 for February 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 Aug 2008 08:05:00 EST. Xbox World 360 magazine brings forth details of EA's forthcoming <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Godfather-2/">Godfather 2</a></em> game - helpfully extracted by sister-publication CVG - describing the sequel as "<em>Scarface</em> meets <em>Total War</em>." To further contextualize that pairing, the game is dropping some of that <em>GTA</em>-clone vibe in favor of the far less popular "sandbox game with RPG, RTS and erm, board game elements"-vibe.<br /><br />If the game isn't content straddling just one game type, why should locales be any different? Following the plot of its cinematic namesake, Godfather 2 jet-sets from Miami to Havana to New York City. Want more numbers? The game packs six character classes - "bruiser, demolitions expert, arsonist, medic, safe cracker and engineer" - and each character can have one of twelve different "personalities." Here's some simple back-of-the-box math for y'all: six character classes <em>times</em> twelve personalities <em>equals</em> an amazing 72 playable characters (except not really). <br /><br />Other features include "Don's View" (that's where the RTS magic comes in) and a perks system (thanks, board games!). No word on multiplayer, but EA's just getting this hype machine started before the game's ought-nine release. Give 'em time.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/07/godfather-2-detailed-less-gta-more-rpg-rts-board-game/">Godfather 2 detailed -- less GTA; more RPG, RTS, board game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Aug 2008 11:58:00 EST. Riccitiello told investors that <em>The Godfather 2</em> would be hitting retail shelves sometime in late 2008 or early 2009, specifically saying that it would release "a few months"after the November release of EA's other Fall title, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/left-4-dead"><em>Left 4 Dead</em></a>. <em>Godfather </em>delicious.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/01/ea-ceo-late-08-early-09-godfather-2-release/">EA CEO: Late '08, early '09 Godfather 2 release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Aug 2008 14:00:00 EST. Hmm, that headline was kind of misleading, wasn't it? Let's try again. <em>Godfather II</em> has no RTS elements and an Academy Award-winning performance from Robert DeNiro. <em>Godfather II: The Game</em> will possess at least some RTS elements, in addition to the <em>Grand Theft Vito </em>gameplay you remember from the first game.<br /><br />The tidbit came from EA CEO John Riccitiello <a href="http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=10982&amp;Itemid=2">who said</a> "it's almost like you're in an RTS, controlling the strategy of the boroughs so you can see what's going on." EA Redwood Shores is apparently working on the game, presumably on their breaks from finishing up <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Dead-Space/">Dead Space</a></em>. Riccitiello says that <em>G II: TG</em> is a title we'll be talking a lot about in the fall, let's hope we don't have to wait until then to hear more.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/18/godfather-ii-has-rts-elements/">Godfather II has RTS elements</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Jun 2008 16:00:00 EST. Surprise!<br /><br />More interesting is what Riccitiello then went on to say about <em>Godfather II</em>'s interesting gameplay twist, telling investors that "you can play this game both at the street level, much like a <em>GTA</em>-style game, but you can also play it top-down, almost like you're in an RTS, controlling the strategy of the boroughs so you can see what's going on..." He also mentioned that it's a game they'll be "talking a lot about this fall", pretty much slating it for a 2009 release.<br /><br /><em>GTA</em>-style <em>Godfather </em>with a hint of RTS? Color us confused yet intrigued.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/18/ea-talks-godfather-iis-gta-and-rts-gameplay/">EA talks Godfather II's GTA and RTS gameplay</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Jun 2008 15:00:00 EST. Just when you think you're out, they pull you back in. In a stockholder meeting yesterday Frank Gibeau, head of EA Games, said <em>Godfather 2</em> is currently in <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=14858">development</a>. Fredo Corleone better watch out. Although, he's still got time to make up his mind if going fishing is a smart idea, the game currently has no official announcement or release date.<br /><br />We expect <em>Godfather II</em> to have a more expansive <em>San Andreas</em> feel to it compared to the original. <em>Godfather II</em> the film not only had many more locations than <em>The Godfather</em>, but it also had two different time periods. It may actually be cool if the developers allow you to play a character who skips back and forth through time working for Vito and Michael. An official announcement should explain much more in the coming months, but considering <em>The Godfather</em> for Wii was made by using a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/25/joystiq-hands-on-the-godfather-ps3-wii/">scaled down</a> version of the PS3 game, it looks like all console owners will be able to enjoy the sequel.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/27/godfather-2-in-development-it-breaks-our-heart/">Godfather 2 in development, it breaks our heart</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Jul 2007 10:26:00 EST.
