Formerly known as <em>Guitar Hero 6</em>, <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/guitar-hero-warriors-of-rock">Warriors of Rock</a></em> promises the largest on-disc set list so far, with over 90 songs. Here's a look at the list of songs that have been announced to date.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/29/guitar-hero-warriors-of-rock-songs-setlist/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock's song list (so far)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/29/guitar-hero-warriors-of-rock-songs-setlist/">Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock's song list (so far)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 Jul 2010 13:00:00 EST. It looks like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/06/guitar-hero-6-another-dj-hero-coming-this-fall/"><em>Guitar Hero 6</em></a> may have found a new name. A listing on <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003N63BPE?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B003N63BPE">amazon.com</a> may have leaked Activision's next foray of the <em>Guitar Hero</em> franchise:<em> Warriors of Rock</em> for Wii, PS3 and 360. Unless Activision plans on releasing two <em>Guitar Hero</em> games in the same time frame (not <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/band-hero">unlikely</a>), <em>Warriors of Rock</em> is likely the new moniker for <em>Guitar Hero 6</em>. The SKUs will come in three flavors: Standard, Guitar Bundle and Super Bundle (which will presumably include drums and a microphone).<br />
<br />
For better or for worse, we can't help but conjure up images of Activision's former baby, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/brutal-legend"><em>Br&uuml;tal Legend</em></a>, when thinking about the new subtitle. Perhaps Activision has figured out a way to use plastic guitars in a way Tim Schafer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/03/guitar-controllers-axed-from-brutal-legend/">could not</a>?<br />

Details about the upcoming sixth iteration in the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero">Guitar Hero</a></em> series (that is, if you don't count various spin-offs) have begun landing on the web from Official Xbox Magazine UK, reports <a href="http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=123689">GoNintendo</a>. As Kiss' Gene Simmons <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/12/gene-simmons-im-the-voice-of-guitar-hero-6/">proclaimed earlier this year</a>, it seems he'll be emceeing the game. Alongside his appearance, Queen, Black Sabbath and Metallica's Lars Ulrich will also be showing up, though rather than being featured as playable characters, the various rockers will be recruitable characters for guidance through the game's campaign ("Quest Mode") -- that whole <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/04/no-doubt-suing-activision-for-band-hero-circus-act-appearance/"><em>multiple</em></a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/10/courtney-love-to-sue-activision-over-guitar-hero-5s-reanimated/"><em>lawsuit</em></a> <em>thing</em> certainly couldn't have hurt Activision's decision, right?<br />
<br />
Maybe most important of all is the inclusion of legendary New York City club CBGB (&amp; OMFUG) as the game's "only real-world location" (at least to this former CBGB attendee), but we suppose you're probably more interested in hearing that "previous DLC" will allegedly be playable in number six ... or <em>whatever</em>. Activision wouldn't confirm the details with us, but you OXM UK subscribers are welcome to re-confirm the report's legitimacy in our comments section below.<br />

Activision has confirmed on an earnings call today that <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-6">Guitar Hero 6</a></em> will be on store shelves sometime this fall, with a new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dj-hero"><em>DJ Hero</em></a> game coming soon after. The music game market is a changing place, admitted CEO Bobby Kotick -- it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/10/activision-severely-cutting-music-game-releases-in-2010/">will "continue to compress,"</a> with fewer titles and brands finding success. Activision has "moved from the sell-through of higher-priced peripherals," and its new plan is for "improved economics on a higher percentage of software sales."<br />
<br />
Kotick said that <em>Guitar Hero</em> "remains the leader in the category with more than 44 million games sold to date," and that both releases this year would be followed with "a full lineup of exciting downloadable content."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/06/guitar-hero-6-another-dj-hero-coming-this-fall/">Guitar Hero 6, another DJ Hero coming this fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 May 2010 18:40:00 EST. "I'm the voice of <em>Guitar Hero 6</em>," says KISS front man Gene Simmons during a video clip produced by <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWHjCgKLJm0#t=1m6s">Game On</a>, a division of UK media site ITN. <em>And that's all he says</em>. The clip -- view it after the break -- has been removed from the context of what's assumed to be a full interview and essentially turns Simmons' statement into a gag line. Still, Simmons does appear to be the first "official" spokesperson to outright name the next iteration of <em>Guitar Hero</em>, albeit <em>unofficially</em>. <br />
<br />
Activision <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/10/activision-reports-113-million-in-profits-for-2009/">previously dated</a> a forthcoming <em>Guitar Hero</em> game for the "back half" of 2010. Presumably, that's <em>"Guitar Hero 6" </em>and the game Simmons will apparently star in. What? Activision didn't offer his crew a full-on <em>Guitar Hero: KISS</em> game? It's for the better, really, because all we want to do is get the digitized Simmons onstage and make him <em>crank 'dat Soulja Boy! </em><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/12/gene-simmons-im-the-voice-of-guitar-hero-6/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Gene Simmons: 'I'm the voice of Guitar Hero 6'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/12/gene-simmons-im-the-voice-of-guitar-hero-6/">Gene Simmons: 'I'm the voice of Guitar Hero 6'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Mar 2010 17:09:00 EST. Rockers of the classic '80s band Tesla claim to be included in the yet-to-be announced (but you <em>totally</em> saw it coming) <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Guitar-Hero-6/"><em>Guitar Hero 6</em></a>. In an interview with <a href="http://www.bravewords.com/news/125663">Brave Words &amp; Blood Knuckles</a>, guitarist Dave Rude revealed "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SzTVnSMlF0">Modern Day Cowboy</a>" -- from the band's 1986 debut album <em>Mechanical Resonance</em> -- will be included in the music title. Rude noted the song was one of three suggestions the band made to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Activision/">Activision</a> when they were pursued to be included.<br />
<br />
While some (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/21/nickelback-singer-put-down-the-guitar-hero/">completely talentless</a>) acts have decried the popularity of music games such as <em>Guitar Hero</em>, Rude feels the genre is an important step for up-and-coming rockers. "I think it's a good thing," Rude said. "Even if people don't learn to play guitar, it's exposing them to all sorts of cool guitar-based music that they wouldn't have ever heard otherwise." You hear that Kroeger? Activision may have "fewer SKUs" in 2010, but it still needs its <em>Hero</em>es to champion the financial cause. <em>Guitar Hero</em> brand CEO Dan Rosensweig tells <a href="http://www.mcvuk.com/features/584/Heroic-Deeds">MCV</a> that the publisher is already working on the "next iterations" of <em>Guitar Hero</em> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/band-hero"><em>Band Hero</em></a>, and mentions that there will be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/30/feign-surprise-dj-hero-2-allegedly-in-the-works/">"more" <em>DJ Hero</em></a>. Rosensweig makes no mention of the recently trademarked <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/11/activision-applies-for-drum-hero-trademark/">Drum Hero</a>.</em><br />

... it's rather sad when game announcements border on non-news. Well, we might as well finish by saying that <em>Madden NFL 11</em> will also release next year, along with all the other sports franchises.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/13/activision-probably-fewer-hero-skus-next-year-but-next-dj-g/">Activision: Probably fewer 'Hero' SKUs next year, but next DJ, Guitar and Band lined up</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Nov 2009 13:00:00 EST.
