"Lips: I (Heart) the 80s" was recently spotted by IGN over on the ratings website, sporting a description that reveals at least two tracks from the 1980s-centric title -- The Police's "Roxanne" and Rick James' "Super Freak."

The game is also said to feature "depictions of men and women in revealing outfits performing provocative choreography -- for example, women in negligees, black bras, panties dancing inside a classroom; large amounts of exposed cleavage, some grinding dance moves; and background images of storefronts/signs reading '25 cent Peepshows,' 'Live Sex Theatre,' and 'Topless Girls Dancing.'" Gosh golly! Regardless, with the recent release of Lips: Party Classics and today's ESRB listing, we have to imagine the official announce of Lips: I (Heart) the 80s is just around the corner. We'll be prepping our boom boxes with plenty of Public Enemy until then.

Update: February 26 is the European release date for Lips Party Classics. The game will release in the US on March 2.
Microsoft has announced that Lips Party Classics, the next installment in the fledgling karaoke series, will land on the Xbox 360 on February 26. For those that missed the initial announcement, Party Classics contains some, ahem, classic party tunes from the likes of KISS, Chumbawamba and the Spice Girls. Microsoft has also revealed that Party Classics will support USB microphones in addition to the official wireless mics.

In other Lips news, Microsoft has announced the song DLC for January. Perhaps not the best timing, given that January is nearly half over, but what are you gonna do? Check out a list of all of January's DLC after the break. All individual songs are 160 ($2) apiece. The Cardigans and Miracles song packs are 440 ($5.50) each.

With Lips: Number One Hits just hitting retail shelves in October, Microsoft has now announced yet another edition of the game, this time themed around party songs. Entitled Lips: Party Classics, it features catchy tunes by the likes of Chumbawamba, Kiss, Spice Girls and, yes, the Village People. Party Classics will contain a total of 40 songs and launch in spring 2010.

In other Lips news, Microsoft has released a Facebook app that allows users to plaster lips onto their pictures. The lips will then proceed to sing one of a number of tracks from Lips. Look at the image above and imagine that the lips are singing "Barbie Girl." That should give you a decent approximation of what to expect. It's also curious that these Achievements would be added so close to the launch of Lips: Number One Hits.

Whatever the truth is behind this mystery, we're sure exuberant box art models everywhere will be thrilled!

Harmonix has confirmed to Joystiq that the Lips (or Microsoft Wireless) Microphone will be compatible with The Beatles: Rock Band at launch, but that a patch for the peripheral to work with Rock Band 2 will be "coming soon." We sought clarification after a post on GameFaqs, allegedly quoting EA warranty support, implied that the patch for Rock Band would occur this week.

The Lips mic patch for Rock Band has been in the pipe since last year, with a release window announced a couple months back for this summer, which we now know will occur after (not with) the release of The Beatles: Rock Band this Wednesday.

Available for just ¥1,200 (about $14), we'd be hard pressed to not buy this hard-to-find gem five or six times should it come stateside.

Speaking of which, we've contacted Koei to see if they plan on bringing U-1's epic journey to the North American PlayStation Store. We'll let you know whether or not the developer plans on breaking our hearts.

Neversoft, the current Guitar Hero developer, initially confirmed this compatibility -- which isn't coming to World Tour -- on its Twitter feed last month, but the posting has since been removed. Nevertheless, Guitar Hero: Metallica is the first music game to support the much praised, wireless Lips peripheral, which has been unsuccessfully bundled with a mediocre singing game.

Additionally, Microsoft has tentatively dated that long-ago-promised Rock Band 2 patch for "this summer" and suggested that additional titles supporting its mic will be available later this year. When, surely, we'll be able to purchase a standalone Lips mic. Pretty please?

According to VG247, Activision has no plans to add Lips wireless microphone support to Guitar Hero World Tour. Now, we could understand their unwillingness to support the Lips mics if they were poorly constructed or if it'd be some overwhelming task to take on. But the one thing (and possibly only thing) Lips has going for it are stellar peripherals and we don't believe releasing a game patch would be all that time consuming.

Shame on you World Tour. At least Rock Band recognizes the value of colorfully lit mics.

Rejected by American Idol? Fear not, there's still hope: Microsoft wants all aspiring musicians who think they can carry a tune, write lyrics and perform in front of a camera to enter the Lips Open Mic Contest.

To enter, first check your age and address (you've got to be a United States resident, age 18 or older), and then record your performance of an original song and upload it to the official contest site before March 13. One grand prize winner will have his or her original tune made available as Lips DLC and will be idolized by tens (if not hundreds) of Lips singers around the globe.

It has outlined four weeks' worth of songs coming to the iNi- developed karaoke title via Xbox Live Marketplace, beginning with tomorrow's update. In addition to the the first set of songs, another set is scheduled for next Friday, November 28 and another set is scheduled for Friday, December 5. Starting to see a pattern? The set to be released on December 5 will all holiday songs by such artists as Bing Crosby, Elvis Presley, Gene Autry, and others. Well, that didn't take long. Lips has been out for all of ... a day, and Microsoft is already at the ready with a supply of add-on songs, which, from the looks of things, will be arriving every Friday from here on out.

This Friday, Nov. 21, will see the arrival of the first DLC songs, followed by another batch on Friday, Nov. 28, and a set of holiday standards by "Bing Crosby, Elvis Presley, Gene Autry and more," beginning Friday, Dec. 5. The tracks will be priced "from" 160 and include the original music videos (or, in the case of the holiday tracks, ones created by MS). Here's what to expect for the first two Lips DLC Fridays. We're a little very confused as to what Microsoft is attempting to achieve through this TV spot for its karaoke title, Lips, which releases this week. Is it trying to sell the game - or cure any suffering narcoleptics who happen to see it of their inability to stay awake?

If the latter's the case, we salute Microsoft on trying to make life better for sufferers of the condition. If not, and it's just a video game ad, we're not sure people will even want to leave their houses to buy the game, for fear of running into this ... thing. Or even ordering Lips online ... only to have a bipedal mouth appear at their door, the package clutched in its teeth.

Talking to MTV Multiplayer, Lips creator and Inis developer Keiichi Yano mentioned that the Lips accelerometer microphone will not work with any other music games at launch, but is optimistic that it'll be compatible with other titles in the future.

"It's not something we can do, obviously [the games would require a patch]. I mean, I hope so for Rock Band, Guitar Hero. It won't work out of the box but it's relatively easy to kind of get it going."

So, the light up Lips microphone and its compatibility with other musical titles lies in both Harmonix and Activision's hands. They'd have to release patches for their games which we think they totally should. Everyone pretty much agrees that the wireless Lips microphones are teh sexy and teh awesomez.

Even the tiniest hint about a confirmation of Elite Beat Agents 2 -- a game that would surprise no one and thrill nearly everyone -- is like the skies opening up to shine a light onto the Earth whilst the angels sing. Why Microsoft went silent about its upcoming karaoke game, Lips, is beyond us. But thankfully, the curtain has been pushed aside, and MGS is ready to start hyping the Xbox 360's answer to SingStar. With developer iNiS at the helm (Elite Beat Agents, Gitaroo-Man), we knew to expect something more than just a karaoke game. By integrating a few new ideas and Wii-styled gyroscopic microphones into the mix, iNiS hopes to create a fun party experience that anyone can enjoy -- no singing required.

Accessibility is at the heart of this brand new music game. Not everyone in a party is confident (or drunk) enough to show off their singing prowess. Not a problem in Lips. Developer iNiS has added a number of other things for anyone to do while a song is playing. Instead of grabbing the mic, you can grab a controller and start pressing buttons to activate a variety of "noisemakers." Four controllers can be used, in addition to the two wireless microphones. If you're is feeling a bit more theatrical, you can grab the microphone and shake it like a tambourine. You can move your body and perform the gestures that appear on screen. And finally, if you're ready to sing, you can start belting it out.

Continuing the theme of accessibility, there's only one difficulty to be found in Lips. The vocal engine that's in place is supposedly much more forgiving than competing singing games. That means even those that aren't the strongest of singers can feel encouraged to play. Players can also jump into duets at any time: a simple shake of the wireless microphone will activate two-player mode instantly -- no need to pause the game or exit to a menu.

According to today's Lips news reveal, we'll be seeing the game on retailer shelves sometime in mid-November with a retail price tag of $69.99 (including both microphones.) All original music videos will be included in the game and the list of music (viewable after the break) is varied, spanning different genres in hopes of catering to everyone's musical tastes. Mad props to MS for licensing Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" and Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire". Agents are ... go!

Elite Beat Agents built a reputation on many things: colorful characters, marvelous music, and, on later difficulties, the combination of soul-crushing challenge and those godforsaken spin markers. But look beyond that shiny veneer and you'll see above all an incredibly unique game, one that takes advantage of the DS's touch-screen capabilities arguably better than any other title on the system.

And it's a hell of a lot of fun. Give the game a spin for just a few minutes and you'll see what I mean, as part of Elite Beat Agents's charm is its bite-sized gameplay. Take one of the many songs for a ride and you'll get a glimpse of nearly everything the game has to offer, with the frantic tapping, circling, and groovy beats the title is known for. It's okay to dance with your DS. I don't judge.

Searching through some new'ish Microsoft provided press assets, we came across the official box art, packaging, bundle thingy for upcoming karaoke game Lips. Complete with two stylish microphones (we're partial to the white one) flanking the retail disc and a convenient harrying handle, the Lips bundle is a pretty well designed package. In a sit down discussion with developer iNiS's Keiichi Yano, the chief creative officer for karaoke game Lips, Joystiq learned quite the factual load of Lips information. Informative highlights including mention that Lips will support both the Zune and iPod but will not use DRM'ed music, the microphone is in fact dongle'less, every song included will be a master track and feature the original music video and game scoring will be enabled with all custom tracks.
