This time, it's a surreal game set in Luigi's dreams. <em>Mario &amp; Luigi: Dream Team</em> features things like mass Luigi fights. And it's coming this summer!<br /><br />That's a really short time between announcement and release, especially for an RPG.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/14/new-mario-and-luigi-dream-team-bringing-luigis-dreams-to-life/">New 'Mario &amp; Luigi: Dream Team' bringing Luigi's dreams to life on 3DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Feb 2013 09:11:00 EST. So, of course, now it's time to promote ... the original DSi, with a new spring bundle! On April 25, Nintendo will release a bundle containing a white DSi and a copy of <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/mario-and-luigi-bowsers-inside-story">Mario &amp; Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story</a></em>, at a $169.99 price point -- which is what the DSi costs by itself. If you'd like a <em>free copy of Mario &amp; Luigi</em>, we suggest you take advantage of that offer.<br />
<br />
For whatever reason, Nintendo is no stranger to the "previous hardware bundle." A little over a month after the DSi's North American release, Nintendo offered a lime green DS Lite/<em>Personal Trainer: Cooking</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/24/your-mom-wants-a-new-lime-green-ds-bundle/">bundle</a>. Nintendo UK bundled a DS Lite with the first <em>Professor Layton</em> game, long after the release of the DSi and soon before the release of the second <em>Layton</em>. It's Nintendo -- don't try to understand it, just expect it to make money.<br type="_moz" /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/13/new-dsi-bundle-has-bowsers-inside-story-inside/">New DSi bundle has Bowser's Inside Story inside</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Apr 2010 10:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5"><em><strong>Resident Evil 5</strong></em></a><br />
I've long been a fan of the <em>Resident Evil </em>series, and while the campaign here has problems and should <em>never</em> be played solo, the Mercenaries mode is what kept me coming back. Those action-packed levels spent trying to survive while running low on ammo and health were some of my most chaotic, yet highly enjoyable, experiences of 2009.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-daves-picks-of-2009/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Dave's Picks of 2009</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-daves-picks-of-2009/">Best of the Rest: Dave's Picks of 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Jan 2010 17:15:00 EST. While it's unbelievably tempting to litter this piece with allusions to the various <em>Mario </em>and<em> Luigi</em> properties, we're instead going to bite our tongues and tell the story of some less-than-gentlemanly gents who beat and robbed a NYC cabbie at 4AM on November 1. According to police reports, the cabbie stopped his car at a gas station when one of the four patrons attempted to steal money out of his pocket. He asked the men to pay their fare and get out, which resulted in the attack.<br />
<br />
In the video found on the <a href="http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ny_crime/2009/11/11/2009-11-11_wanted_in_halloween_assault_not_so_super_mario_and_his_brother_luigi_in_cabbie_b.html">NY Daily News website</a>, two men dressed as Mario and Luigi can be seen assaulting the cab driver while another person in their party stands about, presumably watching for interference. The men are still at large and police are asking those with information to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto <a href="http://www.nypdcrimestoppers.com">NYPD Crime Stoppers</a>, or text 274637 then enter "TIP577."<br />

<em>Mario &amp; Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story</em> doesn't put on airs about itself. Up until now, the series has been a collection of chuckle-filled titles, with light action and RPG elements designed to make the game accessible to just about everyone -- and this latest game is no different. It's plain and direct in what it wants to be, but it's set apart from its predecessors in a deepening of the core aspects of the series.<br />

It's been so long since we last got to try our hand at timing-centric, turn-based combat in the Mushroom Kingdom and, well, we <em>really</em> enjoyed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/07/hands-on-mario-and-luigi-bowsers-inside-story/#continued">our time with the game at E3</a>. The newest trailer shows off a good deal of what we described from E3, with the ill-fated plumbers working with Bowser from the inside to solve problems in the outside world. Now all we need is a bit more of a solid release date than "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/new-mario-and-luigi-rpg-titled-bowsers-inside-story-coming-in-fa/">this fall</a>" -- how about it, Nintendo?<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-luigi-3-1/">Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (DS)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-luigi-3-1/#2179391"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/mario_and_luigi_10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-luigi-3-1/#2179392"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/mario_and_luigi_6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-luigi-3-1/#2179393"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/mario_and_luigi_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-luigi-3-1/#2179394"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/mario_and_luigi_7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-luigi-3-1/#2179395"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/mario_and_luigi_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/31/new-mario-and-luigi-bowsers-inside-story-trailer-from-the-inside/">New Mario &amp; Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story trailer from the inside, out</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 31 Jul 2009 20:15:00 EST. Excellently, Bowser (who is controlled with X and Y, as opposed to A and B) has a special attack that sees a small army of Goombas charge enemies.<br /><br />These delightful details featured in the latest <em>Nintendo Power</em>, along with a basic synopsis of the story. Apparently, Mario and Luigi are searching for a cure to a disease that has swept through the Mushroom Kingdom, causing its denizens to balloon in size -- which explains those <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-luigi-3/1071841/">obese Toads</a>.<br /><br />Don't forget to check out the ten new screens we've added to our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-luigi-3/1289573/">gallery</a>, and make some time to <em>coo</em> at the stylish <a href="http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/images/B001HN6G34/sr=8-1/qid=1231867070/ref=dp_image_0?ie=UTF8&amp;n=637394&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1231867070&amp;sr=8-1">Japanese boxart</a>!<br /><br /><a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?s=6c92cb928ac7a62b5382ea382da04efb&amp;p=14294161&amp;postcount=1">Source</a>: <em>Nintendo Power</em> details<br /><a href="http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E4%BB%BB%E5%A4%A9%E5%A0%82-13306221-%E3%83%9E%E3%83%AA%E3%82%AA-%E3%83%AB%E3%82%A4%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B8RPG3/dp/B001HN6G34/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1231867070&amp;sr=8-1">Source</a>: Screens<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/13/bowser-gets-starring-role-in-mario-and-luigi/">Bowser gets starring role in Mario &amp; Luigi 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Jan 2009 15:30:00 EST. Coincidence? <em>WE THINK NOT</em>. AlphaDream's quirky <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rpg">RPG</a> will launch there on February 11th, complete with morbidly obese Toads and (what we guess will be) the usual irreverent dialog.<br /><br />We're no clearer on a North American date, with "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/rhythm-heaven-mario-and-luigi-3-vaguely-dated-for-us/">2009</a>" still the closest official estimate we have, and that's barely an estimate but a statement of the bleeding obvious. So let's grasp a straw, shall we: previous <em>Mario &amp; Luigi</em> titles came out in the States first, so maybe there's a <em>sliiiiiiight</em> chance that the same will happen in this case, and Nintendo will suddenly spring a January release on us? <em>Sigh</em>, a blogger can dream, right?<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/13/mario-and-luigi-and-a-japanese-release-date/">Mario &amp; Luigi &amp; A Japanese Release Date</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Nov 2008 15:09:00 EST. Nintendo has revealed its Japanese lineup for the onset of 2009 (via <a href="http://wii.ign.com/articles/929/929362p1.html">IGN</a>). Unsurprisingly, the list consists largely of games that will likely never see an official release overseas, but a few titles stand out. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/nintendo-unveils-new-warioware-mario-and-luigi-and-plenty-plenty/ "><em>Mario &amp; Luigi RPG 3</em></a><em> </em>is coming February 11 to DS (no release date yet for other regions), while <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/castlevania-judgment/ ">Castlevania Judgment</a> </em>and Play for Wii <em>Mario Tennis</em> are coming January 15. As previously revealed, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/01/shonen-jump-reveals-final-fantasy-crystal-chronicles-echoes-of/">Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Echoes of Time</a> </em>will be coming to both DS and Wii on January 29.<br /><br />Not listed are the recently unveiled <em>Sin and Punishment 2 </em>and <em>Punch-Out!!</em> for Wii. Looks like we'll be waiting a while before getting our hands on them.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/13/nintendo-reveals-early-2009-lineup-mario-and-luigi-3-in-feb/">Nintendo reveals early 2009 lineup, Mario &amp; Luigi 3 in Feb.</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Nov 2008 06:00:00 EST. <br />
Yes, it's a Japanese <em>Mario &amp; Luigi: Partners in Time</em> commercial, rife with the <a href="http://dsfanboy.com/2005/12/23/race-against-hot-mario-bros/">Hot Mario Bros.</a>, adult faces super-imposed on babies and...what's this? In-game footage? In a TV commercial? For a game? Those Japanese people sure are <em>kerrazy</em>.<br />

Apart from the great union between platforming and RPG elements, a common thread of quality between the two games has been the witty and self-referential writing. MTV (yes, <em>that</em> MTV) has posted up a rather interesting article and interview with the script writer for both titles, <span class="blkPnkHover"><span class="storyCopy">Nate Bihldorff. It details some of his influences, inspirations, his love for writing dialogue for villains and some truly amusing moments from the games.<br />
<br />
</span></span><em><span class="blkPnkHover"><span class="storyCopy">Several hours into the game, a character implores Mario to save Princess Peach. "You will save her, won't you?" he says. "I assure you she is not in another castle."</span></span></em><br />
<span class="blkPnkHover"><span class="storyCopy"><br />
Now that's funny.<br />

This time it's a sequel to the Game Boy Advance RPG, <em>Mario &amp; Luigi: Superstar Saga</em>. Here's what the critics are saying:</p>
<ul>
    <li>
    <p><a href="http://www.gamepro.com/nintendo/ds/games/reviews/50115.shtml">GamePro 80%</a> - "Some may yearn for a more complicated gameplay, but for those who do not, Partners in Time is still as funny and enjoyable as its predecessor."</p>
    </li>
    <li>
    <p><a href="http://gamedaily.com/wireless/review/index.asp?source=00001&amp;id=984&amp;game_id=4792&amp;part=2">GameDaily 100%</a> - "This game is the cream of the portable gaming crop, and you'll be really hard-ressed not to be taken in by at least one of it's plentiful charms."</p>
    </li>
    <li>
    <p><a href="http://ds.ign.com/articles/671/671781p1.html">IGN 90%</a> - "Though it doesn't explore the Nintendo DS platform on a technical level, Partners in Time definitely approaches the handheld in extremely creative ways."</p>
    </li>
</ul>
<p><em>Nintendo Power</em> rounds out the ranking with a 90% ratio, and <em>Game Informer</em> gives the game an 82.5% score. Looks like DS owners have one more solid title until the much anticipated wi-fi powered <em>Animal Crossing</em> drops in early December.</p>
