Forget everything you know about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tearaway"><em>Tearaway</em></a> and focus on this one fact: It has an in-game, rideable pig. This little piggy is only accessible through pre-orders at participating retailers, Media Molecule Community Manager James Spafford writes on the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/05/20/unfolding-tearaways-pre-order-bonuses/">PlayStation Blog</a>.<br />
<br />
Pre-orders in the US get a slew of swine-related and assorted goodies: the Tearaway soundtrack with a bonus song, iota and atoi costumes for LittleBigPlanet, a Vita wallpaper, iota and atoi avatars for use on PSN, and a skin for a rideable pig and matching, real-life printable papercraft.<br />
<br />
These pre-order perks sound suspiciously similar to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/09/tearaway-breaks-off-two-eu-pre-order-bonuses-soundtrack-or-pig/">those announced for Europe</a>, but those were split into two packs; one with the soundtrack but without the pig, and the other with the pig but no tunes.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/22/tearaway-hogs-all-of-the-pre-order-perks-in-the-us/">Tearaway hogs all of the pre-order perks in the US</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 May 2013 22:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tearaway"><em>Tearaway</em></a>, the Vita game coming from LittleBigPlanet developer Media Molecule, has split itself into <a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2013/05/09/tearaway-pre-order-extras-revealed/">two pre-order bonuses</a> in Europe, both available at participating retailers. The first pre-order bonus - the Jukebox Pack - includes avatars, a background for the Vita and the game's soundtrack, complete with a bonus song. The second bonus pack, Special Delivery, includes in-game costumes and an exclusive skin for a rideable pig (yes, in-game), with printable papercraft plans (out-of-game, obviously).<br />
<br />
 <em>Tearaway</em> hits retail and PSN on October 23 in Europe. And, once again, your choices for pre-orders in that region are soundtrack or <em>rideable pig</em>. We think you'll make the right decision.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/09/tearaway-breaks-off-two-eu-pre-order-bonuses-soundtrack-or-pig/">Tearaway breaks off two EU pre-order bonuses: Soundtrack or pig</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 May 2013 16:30:00 EST. The company's PS4 concept was about shaping virtual clay with a Move. So when freed from practical or commercial concerns, we imagine the results are fairly interesting.<br /><br />Austin residents will find out March 7 at 7 p.m., when Media Molecule will attend the monthly Juegos Rancheros game collective meetup to reveal the results of its first game jam. The team will talk about running an internal jam and how it relates to the company's work, such as the coming <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/tearaway"><em>Tearaway</em></a>.<br /><br />In non-MM news, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/deep-sea"><em>Deep Sea</em></a> creator and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/antichamber">Antichamber</a> </em>sound designer Robin Arnott will show off <em>SoundSelf</em>, a game that "combines your own voice with evolving fractal graphics and mind-altering auditory feedback."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/27/see-results-of-media-molecules-game-jam-in-austin-on-march-7/">See results of Media Molecule's game jam in Austin on March 7</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Feb 2013 20:30:00 EST. The Move was demonstrated as a sculpting tool with the PS4, among other things.<br /><br />Really, the entire demo was an artistic suite, showing the Move being used as a paint brush and to control two dancing avatars. The sequence eventually culminated in a full rock show where players used Move to control individual instruments. While not Media Molecule's next game, per se, the demo was designed to showcase the creative power of the PS4.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/20/playstation-move-compatible-with-ps4-media-molecule-shows/">PlayStation Move compatible with PS4, Media Molecule shows</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Feb 2013 19:27:00 EST. VG247 is <a href="http://www.vg247.com/2013/02/07/littlebigplanet-3-in-works-at-sumo-digital-rumour/">reporting</a> that, according to sources, Sony and former series developer Media Molecule approached Sumo Digital to make <em>LBP 3</em>, and that the game, which has yet to be announced, has already been in development for "well over a year." Upon inquiry, a Sony representative told the site that it "doesn't comment on rumor or speculation."<br /><br />When approached on the matter, a Sumo Digital representative told Joystiq, "No comment."<br /><br /><em>LittleBigPlanet 2</em>'s Cross-Controller Pack, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/12/littlebigplanet-2-gets-vita-cross-control-dlc-next-week/">released in December 2012</a>, was outsourced to Sumo Digital, so the developer has hands-on experience with the property. Also, as spotted by superannuation <a href="https://twitter.com/supererogatory/status/189714407125819393">last April</a>, motion graphics artist Naomi Summerscales' LinkedIn profile noted the developer is working on a PS3 exclusive to be released this year.<br /><br />Media Molecule is now working on Vita papercraft game <em>Tearaway</em>, having announced it was stepping away from LittleBigPlanet back in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/01/media-molecule-taking-a-break-from-lbp-to-develop-new-ideas/">July 2011</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/07/rumor-littlebigplanet-3-is-in-development-at-sonic-all-stars-de/">Rumor: LittleBigPlanet 3 is in development at Sonic All-Stars dev Sumo Digital</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Feb 2013 10:30:00 EST. You won't be developing your own levels or actions in <em>Tearaway</em>, but navigate through the imagination of the small, roughly fifteen-person team handling the studio's handheld debut.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tearaway-01-30-2013/">Tearaway (01/30/2013)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tearaway-01-30-2013/#5609340"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/tearaway001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tearaway-01-30-2013/#5609341"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/tearaway002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tearaway-01-30-2013/#5609342"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/tearaway003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tearaway-01-30-2013/#5609343"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/tearaway004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tearaway-01-30-2013/#5609344"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/tearaway005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/31/media-molecules-tearaway-is-an-adorable-arts-and-crafts-adventu/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Media Molecule's Tearaway is an adorable arts and crafts adventure</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/31/media-molecules-tearaway-is-an-adorable-arts-and-crafts-adventu/">Media Molecule's Tearaway is an adorable arts and crafts adventure</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 31 Jan 2013 14:30:00 EST. Starting Tuesday, players will be able to nab the Cross-Controller Pack, which not only allows the Vita to control <em>LittleBigPlanet 2</em>, but also opens up lots of oh-so-trendy two-screen experiences.<br /><br />Levels can be designed specifically with the Vita in mind, letting players use the touch screen, move Sackboy from the TV screen to the Vita, and more. Most important of all, as we discovered earlier this year, it adds the potential for incredible griefing opportunities (seen in the video above).<br /><br />For the less creative, the Cross-Controller Pack also includes new pre-designed levels that utilize the new cross-control features. The Cross-Controller Pack will be available on December 18 for $5.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/12/littlebigplanet-2-gets-vita-cross-control-dlc-next-week/">LittleBigPlanet 2 gets Vita cross-control DLC next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Dec 2012 15:30:00 EST. I'm rendered powerless by its peerless charm, and the depth of its creation tools and the resulting masterworks churned out by its playrs never cease to amaze. My one gripe, shared by many others, is that the actual gameplay of LittleBigPlanet never seems to live up to most platformers. The floaty jumps, chancy landings, and overall soupy feel to the controls always let me down.<br /><br />In <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/littlebigplanet-karting"><em>LittleBigPlanet Karting</em></a>, at least, my one gripe has been wiped away, with developer United Front adopting a playbook long ago established by the Mario Kart series, including its simple, precise controls. The difference, and this is important, is that unlike Mario Kart, <em>LittleBigPlanet Karting</em> potentially has as many tracks as its players can dream up.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet-karting-0/">LittleBigPlanet Karting</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet-karting-0/#5424349"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/lbpkaprilunveil1-1352486669_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet-karting-0/#5424350"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/lbpkaprilunveil2-1352486669_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet-karting-0/#5424351"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/lbpkaprilunveil3-1352486670_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet-karting-0/#5424352"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/lbpkaprilunveil4-1352486670_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet-karting-0/#5424353"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/lbpkaprilunveil5-1352486671_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/09/littlebigplanet-karting-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>LittleBigPlanet Karting review: Making tracks</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/09/littlebigplanet-karting-review/">LittleBigPlanet Karting review: Making tracks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 09 Nov 2012 15:00:00 EST. The developer has a second project underway, though this mystery game is in the fairly early stages.<br /><br />"We're working on a second project right now, and that's very much in an R&amp;D phase," Media Molecule's Mark Healy told <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-08-16-media-molecule-working-on-second-project">Eurogamer</a>. Media Molecule co-founder Alex Evans added that while the "focus is <em>Tearaway</em>" right now, only 15 people are working on the PS Vita game, and that "Media Molecule is a lot more than 15 people."<br /><br />"We call it in a holding pattern," Evans added, "because the focus is on <em>Tearaway</em>. I'm not saying that from a press angle - our focus is on <em>Tearaway</em> and making it awesome. The other project is very much in an early stage and is a toy. You don't need to worry about it."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/16/tearaway-isnt-the-only-game-media-molecule-is-working-on/">Tearaway isn't the only game Media Molecule is working on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Aug 2012 16:00:00 EST. But aside from some brief gameplay snippets and specific features possible only on the PS Vita, we weren't given much detail.<br /><br />Thankfully developer Media Molecule just published <a href="http://www.mediamolecule.com/blog/article/announcing_our_next_game_tearaway/">a lengthy blog post</a> on the subject. Within, the premise of the game is detailed: iota, a cute little paper messenger <em>thing</em> from an alternate dimension, is on a mission to deliver a message to you, the player. Players must team up with iota and "journey through the vibrant papery landscape" to take on enemies and help those in need.<br /><br />Controlling iota is very reminiscent of other 3D platformers, but with the unique hardware of the PS Vita, players can touch and breathe on and shake their PS Vita to affect the game world. "<em>Tearaway</em> is still very much an extension of the creative gaming genre, so rest assured you'll be able to personalise and customise your world to your heart's content," Media Molecule's Alex Evans assures. "We'll have to be secret Susans about that until a later date though!"<br /><br />But, hey, as much as we like <em>information</em>, we'd be remiss if we didn't point you to the real value in Media Molecule's blog post: <a href="http://tearaway.mediamolecule.com/assets/files/papercraft-elk.pdf">a pdf link</a> to make your own papercraft elk, the very same seen in the gameplay trailer above. We shall call ours ... <em>Tim</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/14/tearaway-takes-iota-on-a-journey-through-ps-vita-our-heart/">Tearaway takes iota on a journey through PS Vita, our heart</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Aug 2012 17:30:00 EST. At some time last night, the seven millionth user level was uploaded to the servers, spurring the creation of the busy infographic above. See it in its full glory <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mediamolecule/7724807018/sizes/o/in/photostream/">here</a>.<br /><br />The celebratory image provides interesting context for the milestone, like how 200 new levels debut every hour. Did you know it would take Sackboy 21 years to run through every community level? Indeed, it's been a pretty eventful four years since the first <em>LittleBigPlanet</em> launched, and with the impending arrival of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/littlebigplanet-vita"><em>LittleBigPlanet Vita</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/littlebigplanet-karting"><em>LittleBigPlanet Karting</em></a> on the PS3, Sony's newest (and most adorable) mascot shows no signs of slowing down.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/07/littlebigplanet-celebrates-7-million-user-levels-with-massive-m/">LittleBigPlanet celebrates 7 million user levels with massive, manic infochart</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 07 Aug 2012 00:45:00 EST. The Tron pack includes a Clu Costume -- previously a pre-order bonus -- along with Quorra and Gem garb. There are also some Tron stickers for neon flair needs.<br /><br />A recent update to LBP.me added lists and the ability to show off pins. Lists allow creators to make lists of up to 40 lands for proper, obsessive sorting. This is one explanation for the Alice in Wonderland costume pack coming to <em>LittleBigPlanet</em> this week, featuring accessories based on the 2010 Tim Burton film.<br /><br />The pack will include costumes for Alice, the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat and the Red Queen, all in their full Burtonized glory. Each costume is available individually, but buying the entire pack gives players Alice in Wonderland stickers as well.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/03/alice-in-wonderland-dlc-makes-a-very-important-date-with-littleb/">Alice in Wonderland DLC makes a very important date with LittleBigPlanet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Apr 2012 04:15:00 EST. He also says that some form of "community experience" will be included, though he stops short of saying whether LBP.me will play some part in that experience.<br /><br />When we first heard about <em>LBP Karting</em>, the game was said to feature PlayStation Move functionality as well, a la <em>Mario Kart</em> for Wii. However, neither Sony nor United Front Games mentions as much in this announcement. Despite all of the informercials telling you game development is all about <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjCo2I3ooK0">tightening up the graphics</a>, it takes more than that to make a game. Media Molecule, best known for the LittleBigPlanet series, announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/01/media-molecule-taking-a-break-from-lbp-to-develop-new-ideas/">it would not to pursue another entry</a> this year, in the interest of innovation.<br />
<br />
At the end of March 2011, the studio reported a profit of &pound;3.44 million ($5.3 million) for the year prior, yet spent &pound;4.1 million ($6.3 million) over those 12 months on research and development, according to a report obtained by <a href="http://www.develop-online.net/news/39439/Media-Molecule-We-must-continue-taking-risks">Develop</a>. Media Molecule is striving to "remain at the forefront of technological advances" and "must bring new and often risky innovations to market in products of the highest quality," the report cites.<br />
<br />
In layman's terms, the report is saying MM spent a ton of cash researching new tech. These include "leading edge physics and dynamics, rapid world creation from laser data, innovative routes to market via web based interfaces, 3D stereo-optics for advanced simulation, and use of 'hi-def' data capture and processing techniques." But with 50 people on staff during the period of reported expenditure, that comes out to &pound;82,000 ($126,000) a head -- it's not unheard of for development studios to classify game development as research and development.<br />
<br />
So how much of the money was used to pay its employees and specifically explore innovative new things? Without the report, we can't say for sure. It's possible this is simply a report of how much MM paid its employees for the year, a possible obligation for all UK business entities.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/07/media-molecule-spends-big-on-randd-to-make-new-innovative-things/">Report: Media Molecule spends big on R&amp;D to make new, innovative things</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 07 Jan 2012 12:30:00 EST. We don't know if you realized, but Tokyo Game Show is actually conducted entirely in stop motion, through a series of giant screencap cutouts and mulitcolored strobe lights. Really, it is. No, <em>really</em>.<br />
<br />
OK, fine. It isn't. We do, however, have a ton of screenshots from TGS, including the following batches of Vita games: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/escape-plan"><em>Escape Plan</em></a>, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/littlebigplanet-vita">LittleBigPlanet</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dungeon-hunter-alliance/">Dungeon Hunter Alliance</a> (Dark Quest</em> in Japanese) and a new title from Square Enix, <em><a href="http://www.square-enix.co.jp/ofhell/">Legion of Hell</a></em> (make sure your speakers are turned up <em>all the way</em> for that website). Switch on your strobes and let the show begin below:<br />

The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/littlebigplanet-2"><em>LittleBigPlanet 2</em></a> Move Pack DLC (which is suitably, adorably subtitled <em>Rise of the Cakeling</em>) is the franchise's most gargantuan expansion, and could make a run for the most ambitious DLC release for any game ever released. Just as the core game sought to allow the use of a DualShock 3 for virtually any purpose, this expansion hopes to give players the same freedom with the PlayStation Move.<br />
<br />
Media Molecule was successful in achieving that initial, lofty goal -- and once again, the Guildford-based studio has created an engine of infinite possibility for the Move controller. Any function you could devise for the remote is within reach, provided you've got the patience and cleverness to figure out how to invent it.<br />

Though the majority of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/littlebigplanet-2"><em>LittleBigPlanet 2</em></a>'s suite of PlayStation Move-enabled features won't go live until next week's release of the Move Pack, a handful of additions have arrived in the game as part of <a href="http://www.vg247.com/2011/09/07/lbp2-update-1-06-live-contains-move-support/">update 1.06</a>. These include the integration of some new sensors for building, an option to limit the maximum number of players on your homebrewed level, and the ability to control the basic game with a Move controller.<br />
<br />
Don't get it twisted: If you want the new Move-centric story levels, the Brain Crane tool and the other features based around Sony's motion controller, you'll have to grab the Move Pack next week. Based on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/16/littlebigplanet-2-move-dlc-preview-infinity-times-two/">our E3 preview</a> of the ambitious DLC, we're guessing it's going to be worth it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/08/littlebigplanet-2-1-06-now-live-move-support-added/">LittleBigPlanet 2 1.06 now live, Move support added</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Sep 2011 15:00:00 EST. The folks at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/littlebigplanet"><em>LittleBigPlanet</em></a> developer Media Molecule have proven time and time again that their brains don't work in quite the same way as everyone else's. Take, for example, John Beech: Though most normies would elect to bring their kayaking trip to a close after an hour or two, John has decided to row his plastic vessel around the entire circumference of the United Kingdom. It's a mind-searing 2,450-mile trip that will take him two months to complete; and he's doing it all for a good cause. (Naturally!)<br />
<br />
You can check Beech's progress on <a href="http://www.mediamolecule.com/john/">Media Molecule's site</a>, and sponsor his attempt by donating money to GamesAid, a UK-based organization which distributes funds to other, smaller charities. We'd also suggest that you wish him luck on his sojourn, but we're not sure about the quality of the Wi-Fi on his tiny boat.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/11/media-molecule-designer-kayaking-around-the-uk-for-charity/">Media Molecule designer kayaking around the UK for charity</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 11 Aug 2011 13:30:00 EST. As if the Toy Story universe wasn't endearing and heartwarming enough, Pixar's plastic pals will be upping the adorable ante by donning sackboy skins and setting foot on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/littlebigplanet-2"><em>LittleBigPlanet 2</em></a>. Come August 8, <a href="http://www.littlebigplanet.com/en/game_guide/ps3/downloadable_content/buzz_lightyear_costume">Buzz Lightyear</a>, <a href="http://www.littlebigplanet.com/en/game_guide/ps3/downloadable_content/slinky_dog_costume">Slinky Dog</a>, <a href="http://www.littlebigplanet.com/en/game_guide/ps3/downloadable_content/rex_costume">Rex</a>, and <a href="http://www.littlebigplanet.com/en/game_guide/ps3/downloadable_content/hamm_costume">Hamm</a> costumes will be available individually for $1.99, or as a <a href="http://www.littlebigplanet.com/en/game_guide/ps3/downloadable_content/toy_story_costume_pack">toy-chest of memories</a> for $5.99.<br />
<br />
Costumes aren't the only thing The Claw managed to grab however, as a <a href="http://www.littlebigplanet.com/en/game_guide/ps3/downloadable_content/toy_story_level_kit">Toy Story Level Kit</a> will also be available for $5.99, featuring 9 new levels and 2 new music tracks, as well as materials, decorations, stickers, and an Alien costume exclusive to the pack. A <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/littlebigplanet"><em>LittleBigPlanet</em></a> Sackboy skin patterned after<em> Final Fantasy VII</em>'s Sephiroth was first <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/09/you-got-metal-gear-and-final-fantasy-in-my-littlebigplanet/">revealed</a> at Tokyo Game Show in 2008. Three years and one <em>LittleBigPlanet</em> sequel (plus two spinoffs) later, a newly redesigned version of Sackiroth is finally on the way to <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/littlebigplanet-2"><em>LittleBigPlanet 2</em></a>, and he's bringing some "friends."<br />
<br />
The PlayStation Blog revealed that a <em>LittleBigPlanet 2</em> <em>Final Fantasy VII</em> costume pack will be released on July 13, containing Sackboy garments based on Sephiroth, Cloud, Tifa, and Aeris, who of course is doomed to lose her stuffing at the adorable hands of the vicious Sephiroth Sackboy. If you buy the $5.99 / &euro;5.99 / &pound;4.79 bundle, you'll get a bonus Vincent Valentine costume, allowing you to complete that long-in-progress LBP remake of<em> Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII</em>. Separately, each costume will run $1.99 each (though Vincent is only available in the bundle).<br />
<br />
Other Sackboy raiment due for release soon includes <em>Infamous 2</em>, <em>Toy Story</em>, and <em>Killzone 3</em> packs.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/04/final-fantasy-vii-costumes-dated-for-littlebigplane/">Long-awaited Final Fantasy VII costumes dated for LittleBigPlanet 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 04 Jul 2011 14:45:00 EST. Having created two entries in a series that has spawned millions of levels, it seems Guildford-based developer Media Molecule is considering a vacation from <em>LittleBigPlanet</em> for its next project. During a talk at the Gamelab 2011 conference in Barcelona (attended by <a href="http://www.next-gen.biz/news/media-molecule-%E2%80%9Cstepping-away%E2%80%9D-lbp">Edge</a>), studio director <a href="http://www.next-gen.biz/news/media-molecule-%E2%80%9Cstepping-away%E2%80%9D-lbp">Siobhan Reddy said</a>, "We're stepping away from <em>LittleBigPlanet</em> to focus on some new ideas."<br />
<br />
That doesn't mean the team's leaving the franchise behind entirely. After all, they're still working on the beefy Move update for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/littlebigplanet-2"><em>LittleBigPlanet 2</em></a>. Frankly, we think that desire to move on is pretty reasonable, considering the game they created nearly counts as an <em>infinite number of games</em>. We've contacted the studio for more information about their <em>Next</em> Next Big Thing.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/01/media-molecule-taking-a-break-from-lbp-to-develop-new-ideas/">Media Molecule taking a break from LBP to develop 'new ideas'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Jul 2011 10:35:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/littlebigplanet-2"><em>LittleBigPlanet 2</em></a>'s upcoming, Move-integrated expansion can't really be classified as anything other than relentless. When Media Molecule launched the game this past January, the possibilities for prospective creator-curators were limitless -- as evidenced by the community's daily discoveries of new ways to use the core game's toolset. When the Move DLC launches this September, it's going to push the still-not-reached boundaries back even further.<br />
<br />
During a demo led by Media Molecule's James Spafford and Christophe Villedieu, I learned that the studio's ambitions for the expansion are as straightforward as they are lofty. By adding a suite of Move-based controls to the Create tools catalog, Media Molecule hopes to give players the opportunity and the inspiration to use the orb-tipped peripheral in ways that so-called "professional" developers haven't even considered yet.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet-2-e3-2010/">LittleBigPlanet 2 (E3 2010)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet-2-e3-2010/#3089075"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/lbp2---top-down-shooter2-_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet-2-e3-2010/#3089076"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/lbp2---top-down-shooter1-_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet-2-e3-2010/#3089077"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/lbp2---rts2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet-2-e3-2010/#3089078"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/lbp2---rts1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet-2-e3-2010/#3089079"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/lbp2---racing-rats2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/16/littlebigplanet-2-move-dlc-preview-infinity-times-two/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>LittleBigPlanet 2 Move DLC preview: Infinity times two</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/16/littlebigplanet-2-move-dlc-preview-infinity-times-two/">LittleBigPlanet 2 Move DLC preview: Infinity times two</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Jun 2011 08:45:00 EST. 	<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/littlebigplanet-ps-vita-preview-touched-by-a-sackboy/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/littlebitplanetheader.jpg" style="border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-top-style: solid; border-right-style: solid; border-bottom-style: solid; border-left-style: solid; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; " /></a></div>
First, the bad news: Unlike <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/modnation-racers"><em>ModNation Racers</em></a>, the PS Vita version of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/little-big-planet"><em>LittleBigPlanet</em></a> won't be able to make use of all the user content already created for its two big brother sequels on the PS3.
<meta charset="utf-8" />
There are two Blu-Ray discs of content to use in the <em>LittleBigPlanet </em>games on the PS3, and there was no way for Sony to carry all of that content over to the PS Vita.<br />
<br />
The good news, however, is that allowed the developers to really take advantage of all the Vita has to offer. "We wanted to make the game very original," the Sony representative told us while showing off the title after the E3 press event. And it certainly is -- while Sackboy moves and plays exactly like his PS3 counterpart (and in fact, all of the costumes did make the jump), the Vita's touchscreen is a literal game-changer here. In most of the other Vita games, the touchscreens are just a substitute for the traditional button controls. But in <em>LittleBigPlanet</em>, they give the game even more depth, tactility, and immersion.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet-vita-e3-2011/">LittleBigPlanet Vita (E3 2011)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet-vita-e3-2011/#4199933"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/screenbubble01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet-vita-e3-2011/#4199934"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/screencoaster01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet-vita-e3-2011/#4199935"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/screencreate01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet-vita-e3-2011/#4199936"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/screenlasers01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/littlebigplanet-vita-e3-2011/#4199937"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/screenspooky01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/littlebigplanet-ps-vita-preview-touched-by-a-sackboy/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>LittleBigPlanet (PS Vita) preview: Touched by a Sackboy</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/littlebigplanet-ps-vita-preview-touched-by-a-sackboy/">LittleBigPlanet (PS Vita) preview: Touched by a Sackboy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 07 Jun 2011 10:45:00 EST. On stage at Sony's E3 2011 press conference, <em>LittleBigPlanet </em>for PlayStation Vita was revealed. Sony Worldwide Studios VP Scott Rohde unveiled the newest handheld installment in the franchise, which will support touchscreen controls, tilt controls and rear touchscreen controls. He also promised an expanded toolbox for budding creators and mentioned the PlayStation Vita's duel cameras, though he didn't confirm to what extent the latter would be used.<br />

Creator curators, your wait for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/littlebigplanet-2"><em>LittleBigPlanet 2</em></a>'s promised suite of PlayStation Move functionality is drawing to a close. Jack Tretton just announced at Sony's E3 press conference that an update scheduled for this September will allow users to fill their levels with the Move-based tools that were teased way back when the Move was first announced.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/06/littlebigplanet-2-getting-move-support-this-september/">LittleBigPlanet 2 getting Move support this September</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Jun 2011 21:01:00 EST. A year ago, Media Molecule brought in a handful of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/littlebigplanet"><em>LittleBigPlanet</em></a>'s most skilled creators to see what they could create using <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/littlebigplanet-2"><em>LBP 2</em></a>'s theretofore unreleased toolset. Today, the developer is holding a <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/LittleBigPlanet/status/66092184633475072">second "Game Jam" event</a> for 15 of the community's talented architects -- now that they actually know what they're doing with the tools, we can't imagine what kind of supercreations they can throw together. Like, self-aware artificial life using a series of binary logic switches really isn't out of the question here.<br />
<br />
These lucky Jammers will also have the opportunity to get their hands on the upcoming PlayStation Move compatibility pack. So, we guess they'll be able to make their self-aware artificial intelligence jiggle and dance around using a sphere-tipped wand. Yeah, that's certain to <em>not</em> make it angry.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/05/media-molecule-hosting-its-second-annual-lbp-game-jam-now-with/">Media Molecule hosting its second annual LBP Game Jam (now with Move)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 May 2011 11:00:00 EST. We're pretty sure that if you added up all the levels of all the games ever released throughout the fullness of history, the total sum wouldn't measure up to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/littlebigplanet-2"><em>LittleBigPlanet 2</em></a>'s latest achievement. Its combined number of user-contributed levels from LBP1 and LBP 2 has broken the four million mark.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/15/littlebigplanet-2-hits-four-million-levels-contraption-challeng/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>LittleBigPlanet 2 hits four million levels, Contraption Challenge returns</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/15/littlebigplanet-2-hits-four-million-levels-contraption-challeng/">LittleBigPlanet 2 hits four million levels, Contraption Challenge returns</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Apr 2011 16:00:00 EST. Media Molecule is doing its part for the <a href="http://playforjapan.org/">Play for Japan</a> campaign, auctioning off a <a href="http://www.mediamolecule.com/blog/article/play_for_japan_own_a_piece_of_littlebigplanet_history_or_buy_royalty/">few rare pieces</a> of original concept art for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/littlebigplanet">LittleBigPlanet</a></em>, along with signed copies of its sequel. There are four sketches up for grabs on the auction block, each of which show the evolution and development of the franchise's floppy, stitched protagonist, Sackboy. Each piece comes with a copy of <em>LBP2</em> with an extremely limited edition cover slip signed by the entire Media Molecule team.<br />
<br />
Bidders can also try to grab a super rare, in-game crown costume piece for their Sackperson -- a prize usually only distributed as prizes for Media Molecule contests. If you'd like to get involved and grab a piece of <em>LittleBigPlanet</em> history in the process, check out <a href="http://shop.ebay.com/mediamolecule/m.html?_nkw=&amp;_armrs=1&amp;_from=&amp;_ipg=&amp;_trksid=p3686">Media Molecule's eBay page</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/28/media-molecule-auctioning-original-littlebigplanet-art-for-japan/">Media Molecule auctioning original LittleBigPlanet art for Japan relief</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Mar 2011 12:30:00 EST. Sackboy is grabbing his trusty Trapper Keeper and heading to Avalon Elementary next semester. The <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/littlebigplanet-2">LittleBigPlanet 2</a></em> "Teacher Pack" is currently being developed by Media Molecule and it's said to be packed with "demonstrations of National Curriculum, based in game levels that other teachers have made." The pack will feature PlayStation Move functionality, SCEE senior VP Ray Maguire told <a href="http://www.mcvuk.com/news/43510/Sony-gives-schools-homework">MCV</a>.<br />
<br />
"The pack will be a really useful way of starting to track and develop interest and involvement in games-based learning," Maguire noted. He also added that SCEE is aiming for a release "by the start of the summer term in May." In other news, schools in the UK have a summer term starting in May. We're <em>so, so sorry</em>, you guys.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/17/littlebigplanet-2-teacher-pack-coming-to-uk-psn-in-may/">LittleBigPlanet 2 teacher pack coming to UK PSN in May</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Mar 2011 17:30:00 EST.
